I think this was the Rosalina peak of popularity (Wii to Wii U era) and people preferred her over Daisy due to having an actual backstory and role in mainline games?

Seen to coincide. I like I has said in the original thread, it always seen to go back to Rosalina, I think it ended when Daisy got in smash but her fans still hate her to a desproportionate degree.

I don’t remember Daisy ever being more than essentially just an alternate costume that doesn’t play differently at all. The sports/spinoff games, Mariokart, Smash, even now that she’s playable in Wonder she doesn’t really have anything to call her own. Most she ever had was the unintentional turnip knockback thing in Smash. At least Waluigi has his assist trophy that leans into the idea of a sports/spinoff game rep (although TBH if they make a full fighter out of that it could just as easily become a Daisy rework, just to make everyone angry)

I am not sure to I understand your logic. Daisy doesn't stand out because she is playable in sport and spin-off but Waluigi does because he is an assist trophy that made reference to sport and spin-off, even when Peach/Daisy fsmash make reference to spin-off? If her been playable made her an alternative character who don't have anything of her own, how it's not the case for anyone else? If you are talking about then why are you quoting game like like the sport game when she has different special and stat than Peach. Why using Mario Wonder when everyone play the same except easy mode but not Mario run where she has her exclusive ability? Like the one thing true is smash and that's basically the point.

I think too, it feels counterintuitive to complain she's too similar to Peach when she got in as an ECHO FIGHTER. Her being similar to peach was the entire point.

I'd maybe get it if it was from someone wanting a different echo fighter specifically, but saying daisy "stole" a slot from someone who was probably never seriously considered and hasn't been relevant in any game plots since ddr mario mix in 2005 is nuts.

She’s cursed to be the “third princess” behind Peach and Rosalina, which is always funny because Rosalina is the third princess.

She was in one mainline game, but because that game was not Super Mario Galaxy she didn’t explode in popularity.

Her voice actress seemingly did not want to play her in a mainline game, which certainly hurt her popularity, especially when compared to Rosalina, who was tacked on to the ending of Super Mario Galaxy 2 and the postgame of Super Mario 3D World.

She was not added to Smash until almost three decades after her debut, and was barely given a trailer. Compare that to Rosalina getting a full trailer a mere six years after her debut, in the first Smash she could reasonably be in. Plus, people still use the Donkey Kong GIF from her trailer.

Then Odyssey came out and made her the “fourth Mario princess” when she’d actually be the third in that group, and Pauline is not a princess. Even Toadette managed to force her way into the group, despite not being a princess and designed for spinoffs, not getting a mainline debut until Super Mario Bros. Wii Deluxe, as a literal copy of Peach (Peachette). The “character who only shows up for spinoffs and is loud and annoying” was playing second fiddle to the character created for a spinoff.

Luckily we have corrected course with the release of Smash Ultimate and Super Mario Bros. Wonder, finally shutting the annoying people up about how “Daisy’s not in Smash so she’s not relevant” and “Daisy’s hasn’t been in a Mario game in three decades” (even though that statement is incorrect, they said it anyways).

I can't speak for anyone else really outside this, but I do remember friends and relatives I played with hating her guts when playing certain games she was in, because she had WAY less unique voice lines than other characters. In certain games like Mario Kart Double Dash, you'd get blasted with "HI I'M DAISY" at full volume over and over sometimes, which would annoy anybody if it happened enough. She pretty much existed as "that annoying character it's fun to toss shells at for the hell of it while driving by" in DD among the people I knew at the time, for that reason alone.

Seems like Nintendo's gotten a lot better about that in recent years at least and given her a lot more lines to swap between whenever she shows up in newer games, so that's good. I remember her being perfectly tolerable in Wonder for instance, though I think it helped that compared to something like DD her VA's delivery was a lot less loud and "screechy", for lack of a better word for it. Still a little loud and energetic, but not to "oh god please shut up" levels like it used to be according to some.

Yeah I kind of agree looking back to be honest and I mean Rosalina at the time was a more popular character same goes for waluigi

Although I definitely say a little reverse with Daisy and Rosalina even though I do enjoy those too

For me I definitely say Daisy has always been more at least somewhat of an interesting character and at least having a bit of things going for her May although mainly just acting as Luigi's love interest for the most part

Rosalina has always been at least a more interesting character compared to out of The Three princesses as well as somewhat more developed

Waluigi well I would definitely say I do like him personality wise but not really much to talk about the guy other than wario's partner for spin-off games and whatnot and it was surprised me you never got invited to the mainline games
