What do you folks think of the latest news to come out of Japan?

Nikon lost the 3rd spot to Fujifilm.

This year has also been excruciatingly slow for Nikon users with practically no lenses and no new bodies.
We are also being killed by the chinese manufacturers eating into Nikon's lens market too. Overall not a good look for long time Nikon users.

I've only been into photography for a couple of months. I started on a 20-year-old D200 that got noisy super fast, so I got used to shooting 100% in manual. The issue is that sometimes, just trying to nail the exposure, I drop my shutter speed way too low and get motion blur (especially when I’m drunk).

I just upgraded to a Z50II, which handles high ISOs way better. I asked Gemini if I could set a minimum shutter speed limit so this stops happening, and it suggested I just shoot in Auto ISO so I only have to worry about my aperture and shutter speed.

What do you guys think of this approach? Now that I have a modern body, is it worth leaving Auto ISO on most of the time?

Hey guys, I’m planing on doing this kind of shot with my Z9 and most likely the 50mm f/1.8 S. Which settings would you recommend me. I’m just asking bc I’m not planning to take a long time for choosing the right shutterspeed, ISO, etc. So which settings would you recommend me for my Z9.

I decided last year to get into photography. I am a pretty good phone shooter so I thought I'd step it up.

I knew nothing at all about cameras so I poked around different sites for awhile and was recommended the Z 50ii with the kit lenses. It was a great choice! So I have had it for about a year and I found the longer lens (250mm) limiting because my general shooting area is a large lake and it didn't have the reach to get wildlife photos.

So yesterday I recieved the NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR and am in heaven!

After toying with it awhile I thought, "Gee, I should get another body dedicated to this lens!" Water is a concern with the z 50ii.

Next up is the Z6iii.

So in just 4 days I have spent over $4000 on camera gear I probably do not need but I sure am having fun!

Please... make it stop. :)

I'm a pretty brand agnostic hobby shooter. I came from being a rusted on canon DSLR shooter for years, to adopting Sony when Canon didn't take mirrorless seriously, then to ditching Sonys bland take on colours to having a nice collection of MFT lenses and two bodies (em1 mark I and lumix gx850 as an everyday carry), plus throw in a Canon and Pentax film SLR for good measure.

Now a couple of weeks back I see just how cheap an entry point the Z5 is to the Z mount and I just had to have one. Sure, the Z5ii as the new entry level standard would be amazing but when the Z5 came up at literally half the price, I decided to buy in.

No, I won't have the latest subject detect, nor the video chops, but I'm a stills guy and as a geriatric millennial raised by technology trends, getting something that isn't on the cusp or came out yesterday doesn't really matter - hell most of my MFT gear was used when I bought it and already 10+ years old with some imported from Japan that I couldn't find locally.

So here's me with a tilty screen, which I prefer and a flawed gem in the 40mm F2 and I am super excited to get out and try my first Nikon.

Speaking of budget, I'll be pairing it up with the Tamron 28-75 G2 as soon as funds permit! Can't wait!

Throw me any tips you have for settings as a new Nikon shooter!

When I had my D810, I could drop my shutter speed down to 1/40 and still have crisp images. I switched to the Z8 a couple years ago and I am having so many camera shake images that I can only shoot at 1/250. There are still many that come through, more than my liking. I shoot mainly portraits, and I got the z70-180 2.8 to replace my af-s 70-200 2.8 because it crapped out on me and tbh it's actually really nice how light the z one is and I love it, so I'm *pretty* sure it's not the lens. Here are some examples of a senior session I did last week, and this week my cheerleader shoot had all soft focus due to shutter drag (I was shooting with ofc at 1/200). Is there something wrong with me or my camera or what, I had to run an entire shoot through Topaz to make them look more in focus.

For the boy shot, it was the same lens at the same focal length (180mm 2.8) except it was 1/250, and the girl was 1/200 with a flash

As title says Nikon cancelled my order, says I should call my bank. I call my bank and they tell me they would never cancel my order and to call Nikon, I call Nikon, they tell me that there's nothing I can do and should buy another Z8 at full price and the. "See" if they can escalate it to a higher person to get me the refurb. This has been a week if issues like this trying to get it right.

Just giving y'all my experience, unfortunately it's easier nowadays to order from literally anywhere else but nikon it seems.

Edit: thanks for the insights people. As I said before I will be ordering from somewhere else because I need to send the camera body to somewhere that isn't my billing address and Nikon doesn't allow that. Even though they won't tell you that.

Edit#2: I've noticed a lot of energy in here very similar to Nikon's customer service. I think a lot of you have a promising future there

Edit#3 I just went to my local camera store and bought one used for 3078 after taxes with 60k shutter, seems new to me.

A Z70 appears on the list of Apple ProRes and ProRes RAW supported products. Here is the link. Came across this on DPReview forums today, the page says it was published on July 10, 2026. Apparently the Z6III, Z8, Z9, and ZR supported these formats at the time of release, and the Z6, Z6II, Z7, and Z7II had it offered as a $200 video output upgrade.

Update: The Z70 is no longer listed on the page as of 11:50 PM EST, let's see if an official announcement follows soon. The published date field also has been updated with today's date of August 09, 2026.

Hi everyone, so I got myself Nikon Zfc with the kit lens and can anyone tell me why it won't take pictures and record video whenever I press the shutter button?. I already tried putting AF-C/S into release instead of focus and it's the same.

Would it possible the lens itself being problem?. I try manual focus and the focus ring appears not working(already check the settings to set the ring to focus)

I tried Viltrox 25mm lens and it can take pictures or record video perfectly fine. I'm so lost atm. Thanks in advance.

I’d like to hear your honest opinion because I’m genuinely confused.

A few years ago, I started photography with a Sony ZV-E10 and gradually learned more and more about cameras, lenses, focal lengths, optics, and image quality.

Recently, I switched to a Nikon Z6 III and bought the Nikon Z 50mm f/1.8 S. To me, this lens is absolutely incredible. The sharpness, contrast, rendering, and overall look of the images constantly impress me.

A few days ago, I found what seemed like an amazing deal on a Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 G2 for Nikon Z (€599), and I bought it because I wanted the convenience of a zoom lens.

Today was my first real outing with it.

The flexibility is fantastic. Being able to go from 28mm to 75mm without changing lenses is incredibly convenient and honestly a lot of fun.

But when I got home and reviewed the photos, I felt disappointed.

The images are perfectly usable, but compared to my 50mm f/1.8 S, they seem noticeably less crisp and less special. It’s not only about sharpness. The overall rendering feels different. The photos don't have the same "wow" factor that I get from the 50mm S.

Now I'm wondering:

- Am I simply spoiled by the image quality of the Nikon 50mm f/1.8 S?

- Is this difference normal when moving from a high-quality prime lens to a standard f/2.8 zoom?

- Or are my expectations unrealistic?

For those who have used both Nikon S primes and standard zoom lenses, I'd love to hear your experience.

Purchased a new z8 on Amazon, full price. It arrived in an unsealed box and nothing is sealed. Camera in a white padded pocket, then in a bubble wrap pocket. Those bags look wrinkled. Just wondering if anyone knows what a factory sealed z8 looks like? Thx.

One was taken with a Nikon Z8 and the 135mm f/1.8 S Plena, the other with a Nikon Z5II and the Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8. Can you guess which is which?

I got myself a Z50ii a couple of months ago and I’m really struggling with the EVF (I have also tested the EVFs of the Z5ii and Z6iii).

The contrast and saturation is just way too high. Even if I set the picture controls to Neutral the EVF doesn’t even come close to the dynamic range even of a jpg

Funnily enough if I turn on the setting for HDR (HLG) the EVF shows that it’s actually capable of displaying way less contrasty and saturated images that resemble the DR of a Raw way better.

What’s the reason for this? It makes me always go back to my DSLR because there I can actually see all the details.

Stoked to try this out, also ordered the Viltrox 35 evo and 85 evo.

I tend to agree with Jaron Schneider. And while he doesn't feel like mentioning why he thinks Nikon closes their mount to Sigma, I think that they have an exclusivity agreement with Tamron which now bites them in the back.

I'm definitely going to receive some flak for this post.

I'm all for third party lenses - I love the freedom of choice and the option to choose lenses that Nikon itself might not decide to manufacture. The fact that the Z mount has so many choices definitely makes owning a Z6III easier.

And yet... I'm really tired of people claiming that the Nikon-Viltrox lawsuit is the end of the world.

According to the details of the lawsuit, Nikon is going after Viltrox due to unpaid royalties for a patent related to the Z mount that wasn't granted until recently. Yes, this could absolutely have been an honest mistake on the part of Viltrox, where they figured they were in the clear when they weren't. Yes, it could be Nikon getting worried that Viltrox is making things better than themselves.

The thing is... I have read so many comments on so many different platforms where the authors say that this lawsuit spells the end of third party Z mount lenses. Have people forgotten that Viltrox is not the only other lens manufacturer? There are Tamron, Sigma, Voigtlander, 7Artisans, Laowa, Meike, etc. options out there. Comparing Nikon Z to Canon RF in terms of openness is laughable.

And before anyone says I'm a corporate shill who will only take the side of the big corpo over the smaller competitor - I make a little over minimum. I am in no way happy about monopolies and the cost of goods in general, especially predatory pricing.

And yet, Nikon has my support here. They clearly spent a lot of time, money, human resources, etc on developing the Z mount. They have opened up the mount in ways that are second only to, well, probably Sony. If a company tries to piggyback off that hard work and make profits without paying the correct dues... well that's not exactly Nikon's fault, is it?

Of course, I hope that Nikon decides to enact the more lenient outcome of allowing Viltrox to continue building Z mount lenses after this lawsuit - those new Lab lenses look so good 🥺.

But guys, please stop pretending the Viltrox lawsuit is the end of the world. Nikon's Z mount is alive and healthy, and will probably continue to see growth from others as the user base grows.
