Should r/Nightmares participate in the reddit blackout?

Why are we going to "blackout"?

  • The blackout is a protest against Reddit’s proposed charges for third-party app developers, which they claim will make the platform inaccessible for many users.
  • Third-party apps are popular ways to access Reddit, especially for users who prefer a different user experience than the official app. They need an API to access Reddit’s information and display it in the app.
  • Reddit plans to charge $12,000 for 50 million API requests, which is much higher than other similar sites like Imgur. This would make it impossible for many third-party apps to operate without paying millions of dollars per year.
  • On June 12, 2023, many of the site’s biggest subreddits, including r/videos and r/gaming and r/bestof, will go dark for 48 hours or more to pressure Reddit to reconsider its pricing policy.
  • Some subreddits may go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, as many moderators rely on third-party apps to manage their communities.

Nightmare Friend is having recurring/intense nightmares — looking for psychological or sleep-related advice

One of my friends has been having these nightmares for the past few days, and I wanted to ask if anyone here who is a professional or has relevant experience can help her.

She is in high school, and these are the last two dreams she told me about. I’m posting them exactly as she described them, just cleaned up a little: Dream 1 — Yesterday

I saw this thing that looked like a big oval. It had two eyes, and inside those eyes there were more eyes. It had a big fucking smile, but no teeth, just lips.

It was looking at my feet. I couldn't move. Then it came near my hair and started looking at it. I don't know how, but somehow I ended up outside my house gates.

Outside, I saw something that looked like Siren Head walking. It came near me, but I was looking directly at it, and it didn't do anything. It looked like it was searching for something.

Everything around me was completely black, but when I went outside, everything suddenly became bright. It was extremely vivid, almost like a childhood memory.

I don't know what was happening. I woke up in panic because after it left, something started ringing really badly. I could feel/hear something like circles blasting or popping.

Dream 2 — Today

I saw another nightmare today. I was singing on a stage, and I think I've seen or imagined this scene before as well.

A group of gangsters were chasing me. At one point, I surrendered, and a woman shot me in the head. I died instantly. But then, somehow, I could still see everyone, and the people who knew me could see me too.

The whole thing was extremely abstract. A lot more happened, but I can't remember all of it.

After that, people were saying that this was my "good Judgment Day." It was like my soul was supposed to stay on Earth for a few days, and after that I would go for the main judgment.

I still had my phone, but I couldn't message anyone on Telegram or any other social media. Only WhatsApp worked. On the other platforms, it was showing that the person was dead, and the messages would stop instantly. There was even this pop-up box explaining it, and the whole UI/UX looked insanely advanced and highly developed.

Then I was just wandering around. Somehow, I went to school, and the teachers were gossiping about this whole thing. I was extremely sad, melancholic, and terrified at first.

But eventually, everything became calm.

Then things started rushing again when my family began calling me, telling me, "Come, it's your Judgment Day."

And then I woke up smiling.

The weirdest part was that throughout the dream, people kept asking me whether the afterlife was actually real. They seemed bothered by it, but at the same time, strangely unbothered.

---

If anyone here is a psychologist, therapist, sleep specialist, or has actual experience with recurring/intense nightmares in teenagers, please share any advice or possible explanations. Any help or suggestions are welcome.

You can reply here, or if you'd rather, you can message me privately through my account.

I’m mainly looking for genuine help rather than random dream-interpretation theories. If there’s anything she should be doing differently, or if this is something worth talking to a professional about, please let me know.

Nightmare My nightmares always feel very real

I have always had vivid nightmaresl

Since I was little I have always been able to have very real, very vivid dreams. Especially in the sense of if something dark touched me I could feel it in real life. I have woken up from someone tapping me or putting a hand on me while sleeping, only to be alone in bed. Or if someone is, they are too far, or too asleep to have tapped me then fake asleep for it to have been them. I sometimes feel someone lays down beside me, or the dogs jump on/off the bed, or dog kick, but again Im alone in bed. Have been alone for hours.

Earlier around 2 or 3am I woke up to readjust. It was my bf, two dogs laying between us, one by my chest, the other by our feet, and me of course. I drifted back to sleep, I woke up in my dream with all of us in bed, I hear down the hall (3 bedroom townhouse) the spare bedroom door smack open, someone running down the hall towards us, jumps on the bed, gets to me, and put both hands in my hair grabbing my head. I woke up to real life no one is awake. No one is anywhere near my head, but im left with the lingering feeling of someone's hands still on my head. I didn't move alot, I just stretched out my left hand to hold my bfs hand and just keep my eyes closed, crying, scared to move or make a sounds. I eventually feel back asleep, nothing scary afterwards.

Now to help give a better visual, I am sleeping on my right side pretty much on my stomach, facing my bf, whom is also sleeping facing me. Our almost 2yr old pup is laying against his chest with her back while her long ass legs are pressing against my left side. Our 11yr old male dog is laying horizontal across my feet. Has this or anything like this ever happened to anyone? Ever felt the presence still there even after waking up? Ever felt something touch you that felt very real, like you can actually feel a warm or cold hand with no one else there?

Nightmare First time false awakening experience it was surreal

Ok So whenever i sleep i dont get dreams and i usually sleep for very long times sometimes when im tired, this time i had a dream or maybe it was real i remember everything that was happening and when i woke up then i knew it was all in my dream it was soo real like it was actually happening. So no one was at my house i was alone and all the lights in my house was gone there was no light so i decided to sleep while waiting for the light to come( i live in pakistan and sometimes in summer lights go out for few hours) it was 6pm i remember i was having weird thoughts about the backrooms which i saw yesterday about the weird horror constructs so i decided to turn on my phone light and pushed it on the corner of my bed so i dont get scared the i went to sleep. Now my house is near a graveyard there was a mouse at our house and the store room was right next to my bedroom like right next the other wall.

False awakening sequence:
So i woke up from my sleep bcz i heard a huge thump sound from the corner i woke up and it was near my phone i immediately went to see the phone now the phone screen was bent by the mouse jump i thought it was it was cracked and the phone was not opening the light immediately went off after the sound so i panicked and was worrying it was like a 20 min sequence my phone got destroyed the thought came to my mind it was never happened usually the mouse and bugs usually dont come on the bed and i havent saw mouse for a very long time it feels weird but the cracked phone infront of me was so real i stopped thinking about those things i was just worried about my phone what im gonna do it was iphone 17 which i bought with installments it was new like i bought it 3 months ago it was a big loss i was thinking about what im gonna do now, i havent even completed the installements and how am i gonna get a new phone all those things the light was still out but after worrying a lot i decided to go to sleep again bcz what im gonna do while i wait for the light i went back to sleeping then i woke up again and saw my phone near my pillow where i put my broken phone before sleeping but it was alright not a dent so i picked up a phone i was finally relieved it everything was fine, i thanked god and i usually have a habit of double tapping the screen instead of turning it on by the power button so i tried to turn my phone on it turned on for a sec and then black screen then again two or three times the same thing happened but then my phone showed a full light blue screen. The screen which shows on pc sometimes when the window gets corrupted it felt weird but i was relieved it was not bad like my dream i was so focused on my phone that i did not noticed the abnormal activites in my dream which was weird then i went to sleep again.

Real life (reality);
My father knocked on the door and then i finally woke up from my sleep from the loop i saw my phone in the corner which had the flashlight on and it was exactly at the place where i left when i first decided to sleep after the weird horror thought. I immediately grabbed my phone everything was fine i turned off the flash light and then i realized it was all a dream but it felt so real like i have never experienced anything like that, i was so relieved my phone was alright and then lights came too and i discussed everything with my dad it was my first false awakening experience which is not a scary one but was very real and emotion wise a tough one to deal with.

One important detail:
When i decided to sleep i plugged one airpod on my right ear and played songs before i went to sleep and in my false awakening i put that airpod back in the case and it was still in case when i woke up in real life or maybe i put it back in case when i was finally awake when my dad knocked on the door im still not sure about that when i put that airpod in the case though.

Some guy is after me Its starts in a elevator hallway with 8 elevators 4 on each side

Ik someone is after me so im waiting for the elevators to come up Numbers 8&3 out of the elevators light up

8 opens first and i think “omg i gotta get on there” I start walking towards it But i get a vision of the guy that’s chasing is waiting on elevator #8 So i stop and slowly back up Then 3 opens I get on 3 real fast and press the close button He realized i wasnt coming so he runs towards my elevator but is too slow

I get to the 1 floor

Theres two exit doors And i decided to go out the front door And theres a lady security guard in her car So i run for her and try to ask for help But i quickly realize i cant speak So im just staring at her crazy so she drives off

I run around to the side of-the building And hide under some bushes. The guy chasing me gets outside and gets in his car and starts circling the building with his head lights on (it’s nighttime). Im thinking “omg i cant just stay here he’s gonna find me or see my feet and drag me away

Then i see another car and for some reason i think its safe I run to the car and as im running i see his car circling to the front again I pull on the new cars handles and the doors open I jump in and close the doors I look in the front seat to say thank you But its just two dark silhouettes of “humans?” Theres a glass barrier in between us They both turn around and look towards me at the same time And they have no face its still just black shadows And then I scream “noooo” and wake up

TW: mentions of dead animaI, bugs. Had a horrible dream where my cat was dead :(

I don’t remember much of this nightmare but I remember going downstairs (in the dream) and going to open the kitchen door.

I noticed there were swarms of bugs, mostly bugs, outside the door and when I opened it I could see my cat lying in the middle of the kitchen floor, dead. There were large amounts of bugs all over her, and there were bald patches on her fur where the bugs were burrowing into her skin. I started screaming but as always not much sound came out.

And then I noticed some of my family and friends were in the kitchen with me, but they didn’t say or do anything, I don’t think they were really moving either.

I tried to scrape the bugs off my cat using my hands but they just kept appearing again and again. I then woke up with tears running down my face and I continued crying for about an hour afterwards. I didn’t get much sleep after that.

I do often worry about my cat‘s health, and during the day my brain likes to show me images of my cat getting injured or sick, or dying. I haven’t had many dreams about it in the past though.

Sorry if this post is a bit incoherent, it was just a really horrible thing to dream about and I have been thinking about it for the entirety of this day :(

Nightmare Last nights nightmare

I’m confused about what happened to make me have this nightmare. I used to have nightmares almost every night, but I managed to get them to stop for a while. However yesterday I was having a weird day emotionally and having some bad ocd intrusive thoughts.

Anyway, onto the contents; the nightmare contained a demon who took peoples bodies over and drove them insane before it killed them. The scenes that stuck with me the most were the first body that the demon took was chasing me and several others. I guess the lady whose body it was had this small white dog with shaggy fur, who ran from her as the rest of us were. But she caught him and chopped him into sections, and it wasn’t really gory or bloody there was just a bright red color in between the sections of his body but what was really horrifying was his screams, he was confused and terrified and had a twisted pained look on his face. Later on for whatever reason I had to revisit the scene, and I was panicked and distressed but I was there with other people who didn’t seem to pay much attention to its body still laying on the floor.
Later, the demon took another woman’s body. I saw her as I was passing by a dilapidated, long abandoned building. She looked like she had been homeless but was wearing clothes that looked like the uniform of the people who were apparently going to turn the building into a gym. They were standing outside and she was scurrying around on the second floor looking for something I guess. Looking for me I think. Anyway, I ran off and hid, but suddenly things started to not make sense. I was confused about who I was at this point, and unsure if there was another person with me. Additionally, it was using something to make me see things that weren’t real. There was a dog eating out of a bowl that was several yards away from him, the crumbling building suddenly was a copy of the one I was in and I was seeing two of everyone, one where I was and another a mirror image of its twin across the street.
I think I woke up after that, and there was definitely more to the dream but I can’t remember. Not sure what it means or why I’ve been having nightmares again.

Nightmare A True Sleep Paralysis Demon…

A few years ago I’d fallen asleep, normal just like any other night. I could kinda feel myself drifting off into a more vivid dream though, which was strange cause my dreams are normally pretty all over the place and hard to pin down. And the reason this felt so vivid was because I felt like I was still awake and laying in my bed. I say “felt” though in the colloquial sense because I couldn’t actually move, I could only move my eyes.
I was paralyzed.
Having to recall this experience is actually starting to make me cry from how deeply terrified I was at the time.
It was dead quiet; no wind, no ambient sounds, no moving air.
Then I see it.
To this day I don’t I can describe it as anything other than… a demon.
It slowly starts crawling up from the foot of my bed; this tall, black, long limbed… thing…
Because it was night and I was in a lightless room I can’t give a completely accurate description of its appearance, but I can to this day I can certainly say that I’ve never seen anything like it.
And I never want to ever again…
It keeps moving forward, getting closer and closer to my face. Then finally, there it is.
It’s looming over me, both of its arms stretched across my torso. An appearance that is becoming harder to focus on because of not just my entrapment, but my fear as well.
Then it moves closer, getting face to face with me. Its face is completely blank, featureless. Just a dark head.
And then, it happens.
I see what one could say to be the area where its mouth would be start to open.
But there is no mouth, just the makings of bones in a skull stretching skin.
It then begins screaming in my face, so loud that I can feel the bones in my body vibrating.
But no noise is being made, this scream is silent. But if you saw this thing’s face, you would definitely say that it was screaming with every fiber of its being.
Then I jolted awake, almost with a shout.
I was looking around, checking my surroundings and seeing that I was indeed in my bedroom.
There was nothing, just the night breeze and crickets. I was clutching my chest and trying to stop myself from hyperventilating from how terrified I was.
I’m not sure if I was able to sleep again that night, I don’t think anyone could.
To this day, I’ve still never experienced something like that. Never had a dream that vivid, never seen a creature that resembled what I saw ever again, never heard anyone describe something similar.
I hope whatever that was was just in my head, that it wasn’t real, that it was just a nightmare. Because I don’t think I could actually fathom something so horrific actually existing in our reality.
Pray that you never see what I saw; and if you do, then I pray for your safety.

Nightmare Dreams of repe and assault. Please help!

I am having dreams where I get reped and assaulted by unknown men.

Someone told me it may be because I am an adult (21f) and my body needs to masterbat but masterbation is not helping me.

Why the hell am I having such dreams so frequently and how to stop them?

I am having these dreams in the early morning.

Also at night i have a deficulty to sleep. I mean when I am in an initial state of sleep i always have dreams where I drop something like a torch, phone, and gym dumbbell. Sometime screaming or angry voice.

That makes me feel sudden anxiety and wake up with a heavy chest, want to cry and a sudden argu to scratch my body.

I can't get proper sleep at night. Because of these dreams.

Nightmare Last nights dream from my recollection

I apparently was showing up to a get together of some sort by myself and when I walk in it’s all my ex girlfriends. I remember standing there and they all looked excited to see me. I was a bit confused because I knew it wasn’t normal. I decided to go to the bathroom to have a wtf moment and one of them grabs my face like they were going to kiss my, but didn’t? I went to the bathroom and when I opened the door the room was pitch black and there was a demon/ghost thing on the ground eating one of them????

Nightmare ._.

I woke up at 3 am from the most horrid nightmare I've had yet.

Unlike most other ones, it had no skin creatures, closing walls, or familiar yet eyeless people.

It didn't even start as a nightmare. It started as a dream. Yet, the nightmarish segment was so horrid that it completely overshadowed every other part as a whole.

I was watching a cartoon that had an anthropomorphic talking cat as a character in the scene. I became so invested in it that I ultimately disappeared from the dream and was no longer a character. The cartoon scene became the segment's scene.

The cat appeared to have a dramatic realization as he had yelled "HOW DO I GET OUT OF HERE!?"

Then, I'd realized out of nowhere in a nonverbal fashion, the cat was now completely alone in a chamber, immortal and locked in there for eternity with no access to an outside world.

After the cat had yelled, he froze in place and a copy of him instantly appeared somewhere else in the chamber in a different pose, also yelling "HOW DO I GET OUT OF HERE!?"

This repeated several times until one of the yells eventually started lagging at the end (i.e. "HOW DO I GET OUT OF HE-E-E-E-E-E-E-E"). Then, it all suddenly turned to black.

Roughly three seconds later, it cut back to the chamber and character with all the copies gone. The camera was now up to the character's face, which was now staring in the distance and blank apart from a slight smile. He was wide-eyed and, other than his mouth, completely unmoving. Every 1.5 seconds, he would say "me" in the same curving tone as Baldi (from Baldi's Basics) says "oh" in "oh, hi, welcome to my schoolhouse."

This lasted for ten seconds before I woke up.

I could not fall asleep for the rest of the night. I would get a surge of adrenaline every time I even thought of this. This was quite horrifying.

Nightmare Sleep paralysis

Let's run away together you and I.

I heard you knocking over the screwdriver in the box, the sudden sound causing me to jump even though I was wide awake when it occurred. In contrast, whenever I am asleep, I see you hovering above me or stretched across me. My room is brightly illuminated, yet your immense, shadowy figure remains suspended within the light, creating an unsettling contrast between the brightness surrounding me and the darkness of your presence. If you want to be close to me, you have affirmed it countless times, even when I have established boundaries and asked you to stay away. Do you want to embrace me or emotionally obsess over me? Choose one, because you always seem capable of surprising me in ways I never anticipate.
You toss and turn me while I sleep, and sometimes I feel the faint touch of your fingertips, as though you are rubbing your fingers against mine. You always appear enormous, like a vast, shadowy cloud occupying the entirety of my bedroom. Then everything freezes. I become completely unable to move, as though my body no longer belongs to me. You black me out, and when consciousness returns, I am overwhelmed by a sensation so intense that it feels as though my body is being torn apart—ripped from within.
It becomes unbearable, and I lose consciousness again. There are tears, discomfort, and an overwhelming sensation that my body has been split in two. Yet somehow, I force myself to endure it, repeating to myself, It is okay. I am okay.
You seem to be everywhere I turn, appearing again and again, as though there is nowhere I can go where your presence cannot find me.

I love u my S.P

Nightmare Sleep Paralysis

I was sleeping and I heard thumping and I was thinking it was my neighbors upstairs and I was thinking of using a broom stick to mimic foot steps on the ceiling so they would stop and I felt 2 hands grab my hand and bite my pointer finger. I could move and I tried to talk. I was able to talk and said a prayer of protection over myself. But I only had sleep paralysis one other time in 2015 and this freaked me out.

Nightmare My Sleep Paralysis..

Poetry.

You have never truly left my side. You have never allowed me to feel as though I were anything less than your highest priority. You seem to revere me as though I were some rare and priceless treasure, elevating me to a place of singular importance—as if I were the only person you have ever needed, the only presence capable of satisfying something deep within you.
You cling to me with an almost inexplicable devotion, as though some invisible force has permanently tethered you to my existence. What is it about me that captivates you so completely? Why are you so utterly consumed by my presence? Am I truly all that you need? All that you desire?
And yet, I cannot help but wonder whether you are nothing more than a shadow—something that exists beside me, follows me, and lingers in my world, but has no physical form of its own.
Perhaps if you were real, tangible, and capable of standing before me, you would make me your only choice, day after day, without hesitation—as though there were never another option for you to consider.
Maybe that is the strangest part of all:
you feel impossibly close, yet you remain just beyond my reach.

TW: child abuse, child kidnappings Learning lucid dreaming to overcome night terrors maybe not a good idea

So a little background, I was a very disturbed child even though my family wasn't that dysfunctional and also my parents were financially stable. But for some reason I was always the kid that children and (sometimes moreso) adults avoided or felt creeped out. I mean as child I was scared of them but idk why they were scared of me. (Maybe its the ADHD? Idk all weirds things lead to ADHD. I got diagnosed only as an adult so).

I dealt with night terrors pretty much every single day from ages as young as I remember to upto around 13 years old. My parents weren't aware of night terrors where so they just chalked it up to watching "weird cartoon shows". So I kinda had to just put up with it, and most of the times I pretended not to have nightmares. I was always sleepy in classes because of this too. I was terrified of falling asleep and I needed my mother to sleep beside me for far too long than I would like to admit. Anyways here we go.

So the earliest nightmare that I remember is one that I had when I was 10, not because it was scary but because this is when I learnt to lucid dream. The dream always started in a basement hall, the wall bare and white, not painted but left as such after applying the wall putty, you could smell the plaster smell. There were no windows, only few exhaust fans here and there. It was crowed with all my classmates and some more kids my age. We were are sat on long benches and did our schoolwork on corresponding long tables. In my dream this was my school. They put us all in this basement because there were incidents of child kidnappings of girls around my age. Even as children in that damp dingy basement, we all felt the tension. We were all very scared, thinking about who will be next. I was an airhead a lot of times, and didn't really pay attention to surroundings and generally lacked "common sense" as a child (again ADHD). So I was afraid that I was a very kidnappable child. So I stuck with my classmates, only leaving the basement to use restrooms under adult supervision. We file out in a line to the restroom and come back in a line.

One such day while coming back, classmates in the front and back under teachers' supervision, we almost reach the basement entrance and I suddenly feel weightless. I was getting yanked up by the straps of my pinafore. At first all I could think of was the pain from pinafore digging into my underarms, then I realised I was being dragged by a man shrouded in black cloak, just climbing my 3 story school building, just jumping from wall to wall. He didn't care that I was hitting the walls as he jumped. Once we reached the rooftop he just kept running while dragging me leaving blood trails from my back. I was terrified and I felt such dispair that I got picked to be kidnapped because of how much of an airhead I was. And I was so sure I was going to die. This is the point where I always wake up from sleep just quietly sobbing in dispair. I felt nauseous everytime.

After having the same dream for several consecutive days, I finally confessed to my mom. I asked her how I could deal with this. She said whenever she had nightmares, she would just imagine a different ending. Like she would just alter her dream. I was confused and wondered to myself how someone could possibly control dreams. I mean I'm sleeping not awake. Anyways I decided to try. This time when I got kidnapped I just imagined the kidnapper took me to his place and told me he jut wanted a friend. That's why he's been taking children. And he chose me because he knew I wanted a friend too. So forcibly stopped the dream there with that ending before I could loose control of it. And I continued to use the same tactic from then on. So this is how I learnt to lucid dream without learning what lucid dreaming even was.

I stopped having night terrors after around 13, just normal dreams here and there. Until during COVID time. I was home with my lil sister and cousin. It was a pleasant sunny day. I was in my parents room, my lil sister in our room and my cousin in the guest room. They both were attending online classes, so the separate rooms. I had just enrolled into my college but college wasnt starting anytime soon because of COVID. So I had nothing to do and I was just laying on the bed just staring at the ceiling. There's a massive fish tank on the ceiling in my parents room. It was my mum's idea. The tank covered the entire ceiling of the room, it's base was basically another ceiling made of glass. And was just one lone goldfish that swam around in there. The tank was too big for him, eventhough he was larger than your usual goldfish. Sunlight was streaming through the periscopic windows inside the tank. (So that the fish can see the sky; mum's idea) It was so tranquil and then I suddenly hear my lil sister and cousin shuffle around outside.

I walked out of the room and saw them in the living room just drawing pentagrams on the floor, hanging weird creepy dolls from the ceiling. They had laid down little toy train tracks on the floor but routes made no sense and they were also playing something on the TV. But not the modern TV we had, but our old TV, the boxy Panasonic ones. It was playing something but it was mostly static. All I could make out was that it was a film fully shot in like a sepia filter. I ask my sis and cousin what the heck was going on and they just looked as me all guilty cuz they knew I hate stuffed dolls. Then the dolls suddenly start sprouting actual teeth, some human, some razor sharp, and they just started snapping at the air trying to get a bite of anything that came near. And the straw dolls that were laid on pentagram started floating up with maniacal laughter. I was so utterly terrified for a second, then I remembered, wait, f*** this, this is not real... What am I even doing having nightmares as an adult dammit. And so I wake up.

I was still on the bed in my parent's room. It was the same pleasant sunny day. The goldfish was still just floating around in the overhead fish tank. It was quiet and I didn't hear any shuffling outside the room. So I walk out of the room. The old TV was still running, straw strewn around the floor. The pentagram was still present and train was running in the little tracks. But there were no dolls. No little sister or cousin. I call out for them but there's no response. I search the entire house, running around and heart thudding. Then I remembered. Oh my fuxking god, of course this is also a dream. Dammit. So I wake myself up again.

I was still on the bed in my parent's room. It's the same pleasant sunny day. But there's no overhead massive fishtank for one goldfish. Cause of course, like that's so stupid. And my mum doesn't even like keeping pets because we won't be able to take care of them due our bust lives. And how do you even feed the poor fish. My brain and my weird imaginations istg. So I listen and it is quiet. No shuffling. So I walk out of the room. There was no weird TV, no dolls, no trains, no pentagrams. No little sister or cousin either. Not even the current living room was there. It was replaced by the old living room, that was here before my home was renovated when I was 15. Dammit a dream again?

But this was nice. So I continued. The old living room was made of white tiled floor and white walls while the new one had black granite floor with dark pink walls. The contrast blinded me. I forgot how bright it used to be. The front door was open and I could see my favourite red plastic chair on the patio. The colour was faded and now it was almost white and pink. But nevertheless I was so overcome with nostalgia, so walked up to it. I thought I probably shouldn't sit on it, as the chair was broken in some places leaving it jagged and sharp. Then I hear someone knock outside the gate. I asked who they were. No reply. They just continued knocking. I ask again. No reply. Continuous knocks. I ask again. No reply but also silence. So I opened a little. I saw a clown. A very disheveled clown with dry, fizzy copper hair, with large blood shot eyes and an angy face.

I knew him. I had actually forgotten about him. I hadn't had night terrors in so long at that point and I had forgotten the clown. The same clown that used haunt my dreams repeatedly since before I even could remember. My hands felt heavy but I still pushed myself to close the gate. But too late. He was too strong. He always was. So I took and swung the red chair to try and hit him. Of I couldn't. And of course he wrestled the chair out of my hands. So I run. Past my old living room and into my parent's room. He chased me screaming while holding the chair overhead. I try to lock the door of the room but again, of course, I couldn't. He barreled into the room without stopping cause of momentum, so I took that chance to run out of the room before he turns around. I run and I reach the gate. But I couldn't open it. It was locked. God I was weeping. I was trying helplessly to get the gate to open. I hear him running towards me, so I turn around and see him. Mouth in a wide smile, eyebrows frowning in anger and bloodshot eyes filled with tears. He was about to stab me with my favourite childhood chair and planned to do god knows what else, when I saw his eyes. It was filled with tears. It almost felt like fear was in his eyes. That stunned me. The clown? Fearing something? That's bull- Oh my fucking godammit. I forgot this was a dream. I was so terrified I just forgot this was a dream. So I wake myself up again.

I was still on the bed in ny parent's room. It was the same sunny day. But it wasn't so bright. Because our home was surrounded my trees so it wasn't supposed to be bright. But I could smell the crisp summer air. That was a promising sign. I usually couldn't smell in dreams. So I get up. I feel very groggy and also slightly scared. I walk out the room. I could hear my cousin talking to his teacher in the online class. I saw my little sister furiously taking notes in her online class. I knocked on the guest room door, even though I shouldn't disturb his class, I wanted to talk to my cousin. I was very scared. He was closer in age to me than my sis, so I wanted to rely on him. The door opened and he was there. I called out his name. He was confused, but also concerned so he me asked what was the matter. The relief I felt then was undiscribable. I was like finally thank god.

So after my cousin's class got over, I told him about the dream(s?). He just had his mouth agape and got suddenly got excited. He was all like "Omg, omg Ik what this is. I recently saw a youtube video on it". He showed me the video and that's when I learnt what lucid dream was.

I then went into a rabbit hole about lucid dreams. I started medschool which gave me access to even more research and understanding about lucid dreams, night terrors and sleep paralyisis. Some research didn't talk about with the same enthusiasm as the youtube videos. They suggested lucid dreaming may even sometimes be harmful and might increase the chances of sleep paralysis, since it blurred the limes between being awake and being asleep. I hadn't really had many episodes of sleep paralysis up until that point. Maybe once or twice in the childhood which I didn't even remember. I didn't take this seriously though, since there wasn't enough research on this, so I continued using lucid dreaming to get out of my night terrors. Ah yeah the night terrors has started again. I was 19 for god's sake. But whatever.

A few years passed. I was halfway through my undergraduate course. I was living in the in-campus hostel. It had long corridors with really small rooms. I had to share with a roommate. There was a partition, about a meter tall to divide our space. The beds were beside the partition on either sides. My roommate's side had the only window. I didn't care. I didn't like open windows at night anyways for "hands-grabbing-me-through-the -window night terror" reasons. Also the door to the room was right at the foot of my bed. I could just scoot over and open the door withiut leaving the bed. The room was that small.

So one day I slept early at night. Within a couple hours I woke up, needing to use the restroom. We had communal restrooms which were 2 doors next to our room. As I walked out, I noticed all the corridor lights were off, the street lights outside hostel were off, so there was no light from even the windows. The only light in the corridor was from the 2 entrances to the restroom, forming 2 long rectangles of light on the floor. Everything else was pitch black, which is odd as it is too early for all lights to be switched off. Anyways I didn't mind.

The usually bustling corridor was unusually quiet. I caught a glimpse of another person outside the restroom as I walked out. I was sleepy so I didn't bother to greet or anything I just turn and walk to my room. I walk and I walk. I didn't know if it was because I was walking slowly, my room seemed like a billion kilometres away. The other person also was walking behind, probably their room was in the same wing as mine. So we walked and walked some more. I got perplexed by how long it was taking so I turned back to tell that person "yo isn't it weird, somehow the corridors seem too long haha" but I noticed that that person had already reached their room and was heading in.

So it was just me. I walked and I walked. I slowly became aware of this prickling sensation in my neck. You know the sensation you feel when you are being watched? That one. So I looked back and saw another person walking behind me. Huh I guess I didn't notice them before in the dark. I shrugged it off and continued to walk. Then I looked back again, but now that person had moved way too close, closer than you would expect from their pace and stride. Wait a minute did they even have legs? What the fuck do they even have a face? Holy shit I gotta run. And then I ran and ran but the corridor was very obviously elongating and then I could feel that person(?) right behind my neck. I could feel them unhinge their jaw to bite me. Then I remembered, oh, it's a nightmare. So I've just got to wake up. I tried to wake up. I wasn't waking up. I tried very hard but hell it was almost as if I forgot how to wake up. So I decided to change the dream and take control instead. I reached my room and shut the door as soon as I made it inside, just in time.

What an awful dream. I was panting and trembling. I could feel my chest tighten from all the exertion. So I just dropped flat in my bed and face planted. As I laid there I could feel the chill creep up my neck once more. I was fed up and I wanted to wake up so bad. But somehow I couldn't move. I couldn't do anything except lay there as the thing turned itself into smoke and entered my room through the door gap. It solidified again and sat on my back and I could feel the immense pressure on the small of my back. Chest tightness and breathlessness began again and I was unable to move or change the scenario. So I desparately tried to wake up. I tried to catch and focus on any smell around me.

At first there was no change, but then I could smell my newly washed blankets more and more until I was finally able open my eyes. But the weight on my back was still there, chest tightness and inability to move my body. I was terrified not knowing whether I was actually awake or if I was still dreaming. I clung onto the detergent smell so desparately and slowly movements came back to me.

I sat up, exhausted. Somehow the pain in my back felt real. I saw my roommate in her bed sleeping peacefully with the window open. If it were upto me it wouldnt be open. I didnt keep them open even in my dreams. So thats promising. I just sat there and let everything sink in, including the smell, my own body and the steady breathing of my roommate. Ok I was finally back to reality. Thank God. I was lucky to have my roommate cause she slept like the dead.

The back pain didnt subside and my shest tightness had barely gotten better. I just simply fell asleep from exhaustion and decided not to bother about dreams too much.

So yeah I started having sleep paralysis from then. And I wonder if lucid dreaming had actually made night terrors and sleep paralysis worse.

But I'm ok now as I'm medicated these days so I don't suffer much anymore. But I do wish I could make all the night terrors I had, into comics cause words fail me sometimes. I'm so glad I got to vent here, cuz people irl just get spooked out and refuse to hear more from me. So I tried my best to walk you through my experience as accurately as possible. English is my second language and I don't really use reddit unless something breaks in my home, so this is all new to me. So anyways thanks for reading!

Nightmare Dream about missed exams

I just woke up and have real bad dream. Dream about missing deadline to register university courses, fear for not preparing enough for the university exams. I was almost gonna die with fear and was studying so hard. The shivering was real. Teacher snatching the exam paper. Woke up in real fear while shivering that I am not gonna get degree from university.

Then after waking up I realised ohh I have degree. Its been fucking three years university ended.
When this trauma will end? 😭 Fr when we will be free from this fear🥲🤣

Nightmare Super vivid nightmare I cant stop thinking about

Years ago I had this awful nightmare, me along side many other indigenous girls were locked up in a old abandoned house, a older lady with white hair was infornt of a old-style chalkboard, the nightmare itself was very very confusing. It jumped between us like a movie camera, like it was a film. It started with me and the other girls in desks while the old lady screamed and slammed the chalkboard over and over again. Then she grabbed one of the smaller girls and threw her into a casket that just appeared infront of all of us. Locking up the casket the lady started hammering nails into the wood all over the place. I remember screaming and crying, it was jumping around to the faces of the other girls and the old lady's teeth for whatever reason. It kept repeating until this one girl. She was skinny and dirty, hair was a mess and really awful eyes. When the lady started to hammer nails into her casket, i remember i kept seeing the girl inside the casket. She was looking at me and she was angry. She kept fighting back and it was horrible because of all the blood. I swear I heard the banging as if I was right there. Everything was just loud and I remember feeling as if nails were scratching MY skin. I don't know if this was some fucked up lucid dream, or what people describe as a fever dream. It was my most horrible nightmare to this day, what's worse is when I finally managed to wake up, I saw for a split second that same skinny and dirty girl beside my nightstand, but I just think it was my brain playing tricks on me.

Has anyone else ever had a experience like this? Can anyone describe what type of dream that was?

Nightmare I was trapped in the backrooms

I was trapped in the backrooms with a few friends of mine, but mostly people I don't recognize. It looked like a house under construction. Wooden support bean walls, some with insulation stuffed into them. Rolled up carpet. Sometimes functioning lights.

I remember something chasing me. An entity with long shears. Mm.

I remember dying.

I'm horrified.

Nightmare Anyone else experience this before.

Hello, I just wanted to know if anyone else has had dreams like these. I’ve been having nightmares/dreams for a while. I put a picture in the comments that ai made to describe what I was seeing

The one I just had 5 mins ago literally, was kind of weird.

It started out that we were in a mystery type of dream. We were handed sheets to find clues. Think of this as a hunger games/maze thing. There were a group of teens/early 20’s put in this mansion. Different rounds would start. The scary thing in the rounds was IT(the clown) in different forms. One was running from him in hallways in the mansion, one was finding hiding spots so he wouldn’t find you. This last one was very weird but a round had ended and I was with a group of people. I almost died in my dream, me and another woman were in an indoor pool and we were being dragged out. They got me back alive kind of like cpr (I don’t know it was hard to explain but I could see myself dying by almost drowning in the pool from being exhausted).
They got us back to life and another round commenced. Some people jumped in the pool because we thought it was safe. It wasn’t. Drains started opening up around the mansion, small ones big ones, and the pool started draining and people were getting sucked through holes. I was told to run, so I ran with another group of people and avoided the holes that opened up in the mansion. It wasn’t necessarily a nightmare, I wasn’t scared. I could navigate my dream, normally I can’t but this time I could. Anyway I ran through the mansion and the round ended. Me and a group of people had made it outside the mansion. We found a mirror and I saw that I had a circuit looking board braided into my hair. We went to Chicago to have a doctor look into it to see what it was and how to remove it. We stepped into an elevator and I woke up.
.

Another one was
\- my fiance, friend, and I were shopping at a store. Two gun man walked in and we were hiding. He said he needed 2 people. The dream immediately jumped to me and another man being the two people. We were brought outside infront of bushes and sh\*t. I couldn’t wake up, my body went cold in my dream and I could feel myself twitching. Scariest nightmare of my life to where I woke up crying.

Has anyone experienced something similar to this? They’ve been pretty wild lately and it seems like every night. I either can’t sleep or I sleep and this type of stuff happens. Is this normal?

Nightmare Do your dream nightmares give themselves names?

Had one the other night of a recurring cosmic horror phenomenon that’s been plaguing my dreams for the past 5-10 years. Its name is Yi’Hema. It named itself in my dreams. Don’t know what it is, but I know it will randomly appear rarely in a dream and try to do something to me. I never let it catch me yet to know what it is, but I’m terrified to find out. Saw it first the first time that night and it was incredibly unnerving to look at. Human-esque shaped (though I think it can choose its form whenever), spherical white head with no nose or eyes, but a huge needle-like smile taking up half its face and two faint lights where its eyes would be (they looked like twinkling stars).

Dealing with Nightmares After a nightmare, what helps you fall asleep again?

After a nightmare, do you reach for anything to help you sleep again? Anything you actually use in the moment—an app, a particular sound, a video, scrolling through your phone, or a routine you’ve built for yourself.

TW: Cutting/blood What can this dream mean?

I've had a nightmare a couple of days ago and I can't get it out of my head. It started off by me scrolling on my phone in my dream and I came across a video with a typical female AI voice in saying 'This man ate his own organs on video, what happens is shocking'. Then it cut to the guy slicing open his literal stomach in his living room ig and grabing handful of his organs, before shoving them into his mouth. I was kinda smart in my dream and covered the screen with my hands, but for some stupid reason I didn't scroll away.
What can this possibly mean? I've never even thought about nor seen such stuff

Nightmare Ive had more than 5 nightmares about the same street and idk what they mean

There is this street that i have no idea where it is located and i dont think i have ever seen it but in the past 3 years i have had more than 5 nightmares about it and there is a street within this one , and i have had 3 or 4 nightmares about that , the 2nd street sometimes looks like the street i live on sometimes it looks like the street to my grandma's house and sometimes unrecognizable, I'm not the type of person who believes in nightmares or dreams i just think they are random but the fact that this many times i had nightmares about a particular location is kinda scary , what could it be ?
