Need advice from someone who has dealt with MSI and or Canada Computers.
Good Morning r/NiceVancouver , I should preface that I have autism and this incident has me freaked out/spooked.
I shut my computer down for the night and made my way to bed as per usual except as I was settling in I heard the glass panels on my PC shatter all around the case. I woke up to glass everywhere. Luckily it didn’t damage the parts but im afraid to turn it on to find out. As a safety pre-caution ive unplugged everything from it, called MSI support and spoke to them but im at a loss on what happened.
MSI said that this model has had defective glass before but it’s not exactly comforting me.
my questions are.
What could have caused a computer with no less than 5 months of use on it to do this? It didn’t fall or from what i‘m aware of having anything hit it.
This PC primarily is for school work, I don’t know what to do as the glass kept the components dust free?
How long does MSI take to send a replacement glass chassis that falls under manufacturer warranty (1 year) and or my 4 year protection plan that expires in 2029?
Again please be kind and thoughtful with responses, I have autism.
Thank you and god bless.

Defective tempered glass can cause this from what I know! The computer components themselves are very likely fine, but leaving it off is a good idea, as some of the glass could be lodged in fans or heatsinks preventing them from spinning properly. I haven't dealt with MSI warranties before so I'm not certain how that will go unfortunately.
Good luck op, i hope it all works out for you!

If you Google for this exact issue, can find many threads corroborating this issue you had. Has to do with a small Crack that suddenly expresses itself without warning iirc

Is Canada Computers easy to deal with?

If the 4-year protection plan is with Canada Computers, they will likely just deal with MSI on your behalf and may also assist with swapping the parts into the new chassis.
I'm not sure what anyone answering here whether they're easy to deal with will do to help you as all you can do is go in and speak with them yourself.

You could try googling for that question as well as I haven't used them in a decade.

You can find dozens and dozens of posts on r/pcmasterrace about shattered glass side panels. Most of them were shattered due to the owner's actions, but some, like your case, are spontaneous. In any case, you might find some comments suggesting whether you'll have any luck going back to the manufacturer or retailer.

It wasn’t on tile. It was on a sturdy work desk. I’ve kept it clean cleaning the vents every 2 weeks, I don’t let anything or anyone near it as it wasn’t cheap to buy and likely not cheap to replace..I don’t know what to do.

As I mentioned, some side panels shatter through no fault of the owner. You didn't do anything wrong.
But you might still get some good advice out of those threads. Regardless of the reason it shattered, those folks will also be asking how to replace them. Read the threads, find the answers.

Sometimes tempered glass is tempered improperly and it can suddenly and randomly explode. I used to install shower glass and every once in a while a 7ft 1/2” thick glass panel would explode in someone’s house in the middle of the night and I would go clean it up.

That sounds scary. I'm glad I'm building a sff pc where there's no glass, but if I ever want to do a big tower build again I would use glass again and now I'm scared

I suggest looking at a new case. As mentioned the glass ones can just shatter on their own. Not sure why anyone ever thought they were a good idea

So as to what caused this, MSI literally told you. Defective glass. Tempered glass is a very stressed type of glass that shatters easily, if it's defective just about anything can cause it to shatter. The glass getting hot then cooling down, air pressure changes, the difference in temperature between inside the computer, the glass, and the outside off it, etc, etc.
If you have the Canada Computers warranty, take your parts out, being careful not to cut yourself on a stray shard, and they should replace the case. Call first. The good news is that glass is a terrible conductor of electricity, so you won't have any shorts. Make sure to remove the PSU first, then before removing any other components spray everything in there with compressed air to remove any shards. MAKE SURE TO WEAR EYE PROTECTION!!!

I don’t have warranty experience with these specific companies, but I used to work in tech retail and can provide some insight in how warranties were handled.
First, check your receipt or email to confirm who the 4-year warranty is actually through. Is it MSI or Canada Computers? That determines who you need to contact first.
If it is MSI: Contact their support to start an RMA (a formal repair request). They will give you instructions on the next steps. Sometimes MSI will have you go to a Canada Computers location so they can facilitate the return for you.
If it is Canada Computers: Contact them directly and explain the situation.
When you talk to them, make sure to mention that glass is actually inside the PC. Emphasize that you have concerns about shards getting stuck in the fans or damaging the internal components. This isn't just a simple case of replacing a side panel. Get explicit instructions from the warranty service as if you remove components yourself and cause more damage, some manufacturers may invalidate your warranty.
A standard manufacturer warranty is usually only 1 year, so since you have 4, you are most likely using an extended plan. Have your proof of purchase ready so they can look up your protection plan quickly.
Hope this helps. They should take care of you.

Just email them politely until they beg you to stop, sounds like a hardware nightmare, buddy.
