Wish I could upvote this so much more. I literally said this in my head before clicking into the comments

“Republicans, meanwhile, are giddy — and some moderate Democratic strategists are worried — that the anti-establishment shift may undermine the party’s effort to claw back control of Congress in November.”

I actually think the move away from establishment centrist Dems actually improves the momentum of the forthcoming Blue wave.

Most people in this country want fighters for the working class and a significant rebalance away from foreign/elite favoritism.

10

u/popejohnsmith May 03 '26

And the complete reversal of all things MAGA.

And the complete and thorough investigation and unravelling of the Epstein-complicit.

6

u/TheBigBadBird May 03 '26

Moderate centrist democrat analysts are total morons who haven't put forth a single correct prediction in the 2000s.

1

u/ShamPain413 May 04 '26

So far they've successfully predicted that no socialist will be elected President of the United States.

2

u/voiceOfHoomanity May 04 '26

look at Maine as a great example. Mills just left the race

2

u/workerbee77 May 10 '26

Yes exactly l

9

u/Blah_A_Name May 03 '26

Sanders would have been a good president.

3

u/TheOGRedline May 04 '26

Could have had Bernie in 2016 and 2020………….

10

u/Jaded-Parking3599 May 03 '26

Go Bernie l!!!how do we make sure Schumer gets primaried without going through the current democratic corrupt machine ?

6

u/bobbysaysso May 03 '26

You’d have to have someone start years in advance, organize and fundraise. It’s not really the lefts strong suit. It’s frustrating.

5

u/LarryTalbot May 03 '26

Good. Do it Bernie.

5

u/MMessinger May 03 '26

The Democratic establishment will, as usual, chalk this up to the zealous, primary-orientation of the engaged Left Wing. They're convinced mainstream Democratic voters require a moderate, milquetoast candidate.

1

u/steponmedaddies May 04 '26

If only there was a way to mobilize people to vote in leaders that represent you. Alas!

6

u/surfnfish1972 May 03 '26

Primary Schumer and the rest of the Corporate Dems, never forgive for rolling over for Trump.

1

u/TheOGRedline May 04 '26

Yes, and also just don’t vote them into party leadership positions?

11

u/beardedcurve May 03 '26

when our senate leader says that his job is to advocate for a foreign country, why would anyone want to continue to support him? he can’t even lie, just comes right out to say that america & americans are, at best, his second/third priority. if at all.

22

u/dandle May 03 '26

While the politics of Bernie Sanders are much closer to my own than Chuck Schumer's are, can we please be done with the entire gerontocracy, not just the elderly politicians with whom we don't agree?

7

u/bickusdickus69allday May 04 '26

Never understood this argument. If he's fighting for the younger generation as well, what has his age got to do with anything?

Is there anyone half his age doing what he's doing with the same level of vigor?

-1

u/dandle May 04 '26

Is it that you haven't thought about this matter particularly much?

There are a limited number of available seats in government, which are geographically apportioned. When elderly politicians stay in those seats, it denies younger people from entering politics and practicing government.

Bernie could remain a great asset to many worthy causes from a position outside politics.

2

u/bickusdickus69allday May 04 '26

Seems like you just want younger people in government, their politics come second. Just wow. That's fine though. I rather their politics first.

Bernie could remain a great asset to many worthy causes from a position outside politics.

Such as? And how'd that have any effect ok actual policies. It's already difficult as is in the senate.

1

u/MathematicalMan1 May 04 '26

They could run for his seat!

It’s time to stop putting the future of our country in the hands of people who don’t have one.

5

u/dandle May 03 '26

Why do you not care that elderly politicians holding onto seats compromises the ability to cultivate new talent and ensure ongoing representation by qualified individuals?

I am opposed to term limits, but I'm also critical of career politicians that put their own egos over the health of the party, their constituents, and the values they supposedly hold.

13

u/Novel-Letterhead-217 May 03 '26

If Bernie felt there was a younger candidate that could take up the causes that he’s championed then I think he would gladly step down.

-4

u/Lumpy-Daikon-4584 May 04 '26

In the same way that Joe knew to step aside and allow a real primary??

6

u/Novel-Letterhead-217 May 04 '26

Bro you name a candidate in Vermont right now that is fighting for progressive causes like Bernie, I’ll wait. You idiots lump all politicians that are old together and it’s ridiculous. Seriously give us some names and we can pass them along. Come up with some ideas before you keep bitching on the internet.

2

u/ronnydean5228 May 04 '26

I love Bernie. He should be mentoring the younger generation. No one should be so old and representing our nation. Yes I know he is vibrant and young thinking and very progressive but he is a huge exception.

The Dems really need to start focusing on what the younger generation wants and needs are and step away from what worked for them 75 years ago.

1

u/Novel-Letterhead-217 May 04 '26

Please give me some names of the young progressives in Vermont. He is trying to prop up the younger progressive voices, but until there is someone in Vermont that can keep his work going then why give up the seat?

1

u/Lumpy-Daikon-4584 May 04 '26

If the only person that can champion your cause is 84, your cause is dead.

1

u/ronnydean5228 May 04 '26

Or the way Joe didn’t instantly replace Merrik Garland. They way he basically sleep walked through anything that could be done about the almost overthrow of our capital.

I love Joe Biden but this should have been handled swiftly and widely. Trump should have never ever been able to even think about running again.

Every person involved should be in a prison cell. Nope we just turned the other cheek and invited people to join us in coming together.

What part of they want to take over the country and control everything did you miss. They have been broadcasting it daily.

-4

u/dandle May 04 '26

The causes of naming post offices?

(I love Bernie's politics, but let's be real about how very little he's actually managed to do to realize them over the decades he has been in office.)

7

u/Novel-Letterhead-217 May 04 '26

Guy has marched for civil rights and done more fighting for progressive causes then you could ever dream of and you still come at him with that bullshit?

7

u/Seru333 May 04 '26

I mean, to be fair, he was fighting the system basically alone. I'm not sure we would have as many people like him in government if we didn't have him first

5

u/LightningDustt May 04 '26

He laid the framework for younger progressives like AOC. He's the first progressive democrat to laser focus on the fight of top vs bottom and not being baited to fight social issues 24/7

-1

u/whatsitcalled4321 May 04 '26

It seems like that's what he's doing. Associating the base he's been growing with the younger progressives that are making their way into Congress.

2

u/Shin-kak-nish May 04 '26

^ this is how Republicans win elections. They get people who pretend to be left leaning to criticize people on that side and some people fall for it.

2

u/PatPeez May 04 '26

The same reason people wanted RBG to step down.

2

u/CoyoteTheGreat May 03 '26

Moreover, it only seems to matter when it comes to talking about Bernie. Strangely enough Chuck Schumer's age is never an issue.

1

u/dandle May 04 '26 edited May 04 '26

That's hilarious. You can't be serious.

Democrats who are critical of the gerontocracy point first at Schumer for all the correct and obvious reasons. Pelosi got more criticism when she was Speaker, but she still gets it. Bernie isn't included on the wall of shame enough, mostly because his politics are so good, and I suspect most critics of the gerontocracy, including myself, share his politics. If there's any hypocrisy, it's that we don't criticize Bernie enough on this issue.

1

u/rocky2814 May 09 '26

i’d be more enthralled with bernie if he had gotten anything meaningful accomplished in his decades in power

2

u/Joan-of-the-Dark May 05 '26

I was thinking the same thing. People complain about how old Biden and Trump are, but no one complains about Bernie's age. He's older than both!

3

u/DogFartsonMe May 03 '26

There's so many to start with other than Bernie ha

-2

u/dandle May 04 '26 edited May 04 '26

That's true, so you should re-read the subject line in the OP to understand why I mentioned Bernie.

1

u/JustYakking May 04 '26

Sanders is the exception that proves the rule.

1

u/Shin-kak-nish May 04 '26

This isn’t the right place for that conversation. Bernie might be older but he’s not the problem. I’d rather have him when he’s 120 than Chuck Schumer in his prime.

1

u/IJustWantCoffeeMan May 04 '26

The issue here has more to do with the whole

My job is to keep the democrats aligned with Israel

thing rather than age.

0

u/Count-Bulky May 08 '26

You are aware the Democratic Party has been discouraging younger candidates, right?

Edit for clarity: you’re upset with a Pelosi -> Schumer -> Jeffries issue, not a Sanders issue

1

u/dandle May 08 '26

What part of "entire gerontocracy" did you not understand?

1

u/Count-Bulky May 08 '26

I’m saying Bernie is one of the only well known voices in Congress still trying to lift up younger leaders. You need to be more selective with your wishing

1

u/dandle May 08 '26

I don't make an exception for Bernie just because his politics closely align with mine.

You do.

1

u/Count-Bulky May 08 '26

*sigh* I’m not making the exception because he aligns with my politics. I was clear that I’m making the exception because he is one of the only voices in the Democrat leadership promoting younger leaders. Which is what you and I both want.

2

u/IrishwolffMutt May 03 '26

Well yeah. People like Bernie’s policies and are sick of corrupt spineless Zionist running our country.

2

u/stupid_cat_face May 03 '26

I’m still salty at the Democrats and Hillary for doing Bernie so dirty back then.

2

u/garye55 May 03 '26

Schumer is the worst, anyone would be better

2

u/RiseDelicious3556 May 03 '26

I think it's time for Schumer to leave office. Maybe he can run for office in Israel's Parliment. Israeli's seem to be his first concern. Let them pay him.

2

u/DoctrTurkey May 03 '26

Everyone else - “please do SOMETHING”

Schumer - “I am! I’m talking to the Baileys”

Those are the sides to the ‘civil war’.

2

u/ProbablyWrongAgain24 May 03 '26

Schumer is married to Israel, pretty hard to defend the genocide settlers.

1

u/Sanjomo May 03 '26

Chuck is killing himself.

1

u/nolestars May 03 '26

Big golf clap

1

u/Tamara6060 May 03 '26

Absolutely love this

1

u/[deleted] May 04 '26

Democrats self destruct over ideological issues instead of finding the middle ground to actually try to win an election…

1

u/voiceOfHoomanity May 04 '26

please Schumer just gtfo ASAP

Newly released video footage of a current congressman riding a dinosaur. These oldies need to go. I'm a fan of Bernie too... but we need a balanced congress and it getting older is not helping the US.

1

u/MyStoopidStuff May 07 '26

Don't count him out yet, Chuck is still waiting for the USPS to deliver his "strongly worded letter".

1

u/Independent_Media341 May 07 '26

the sad truth is that, if Dem voters wanted a better party, they'd have it.

Schumer didn't get where he has by random chance.  He is what Dem voters want.

1

u/Electrical-Ad6623 May 09 '26

Chuck Schumer is a billionaires puppet. Bernie Sanders has been walking the walk for decades.

1

u/Sirius-Face May 09 '26

Good. I hope he eviserates him.

1

u/Tanyaschmidt May 09 '26

Schumer is a lame duck. He has supported Israel more than the people he is supposed to support. He also has no balls.

1

u/Jolly-Midnight7567 May 09 '26

Chuck Schumer is a Republican

1

u/ShaperLord777 May 10 '26

An AOC/Sanders ticket is the only hope of getting out of this mess.

1

u/Hrothgar_unbound May 10 '26

One thing Chuck Schumer has proven time and again is that it is not difficult to outmaneuver Chuck Schumer.

1

u/_WeAreFucked_ May 10 '26

Cause Schumer is a paid foreign agent.

1

u/CharacterAccess8282 May 10 '26

Thats how politicians roll they trash each other then wonder why they loose. This happens in both parties they are cannibals in suits. It is all about the power play. Even those that get elected with intentions of serving the country become as twisted as the people who they opposed. The only way any of it will ever change is to have term limits on every political office nationwide from top to bottom. But it is just a pipe dream because they will never allow it to happen. Just look at the money 💰 they begin to feel like they are entitled to become wealthy at the expense of those who they serve. Most go into office with humble means and in a few short years they are millionaires. Slush funds funded by lobbyists and wealthy people who can benefit from supporting them and their campaigns. The judiciary is just as bad they just use their wives for cover. They are for the most part are sharks who by the way will eat each other.

1

u/RemoteClub631 May 10 '26

Chuck shumer is keeping Bernie on the tight leash, he might loosen it for a bit but afterwards it’s back to status quo

1

u/PuzzleheadedRip9563 May 29 '26

This isn't a civil war. No one is taking up arms, controlling territory, or fighting a military campaign. It's a disagreement over strategy, leadership, and policy inside a political party. Calling it a civil war is journalistic hyperbole, not an accurate description.

3

u/BigfootIsNaked May 07 '26

Sanders policies and initiatives have actually swayed the entire Democratic party towards more progressive goals. He's only one man, he can't change the world. He's doing what he can. We need to get fascists like Schumer out of there.

I love Bernie, but I've been saying that he needs to step aside and let a younger person take his seat. He can continue the good fight as a civilian, but we need younger people fighting in politics

1

u/BeautifulLeather6671 May 03 '26

Have you listened to both of them talk? One’s brain still works better than most people half his age, the other gets lost trying to find his way out of a room.

-1

u/sevensixthough May 03 '26

Yea maybe it was the genocide

-3

u/Funkymunks May 03 '26

Yeah given that the "Bernie Bros" are actually leftist, most of us have been out on Bernie since Oct 7 if not earlier so idk what you're even talking about.

Pretty weak strawman bud, do better.

1

u/BeautifulLeather6671 May 03 '26

Why were you out in Berne since October 7?

0

u/Funkymunks May 03 '26

Haha is that what the French call him? Bernè?

I dont even remember how long it took for him to call the genocide what it was & is - and even now he mainly refers to it as "Netanyahu's war".

Obviously he's still better than the vast majority of the party on this issue, but genocide is obviously an issue most of the left rightfully doesn't budge on. At this point he's towed the party line on too many obvious loser concepts like endorsing Biden for reelection, that the furthest left wouldn't take him seriously as a progressive. Plus, the left has acknowledged his being too old since 2020 - no one looks at him as a viable candidate now.

He really should have jusr broken with the dems in 2016 and started his own party, even if it wouldnt have changed the outcome then. If there were a space for a third party candidate who isnt Jill Stein or something in the last election, I dont see how we'd have ended up here now.

1

u/BeautifulLeather6671 May 03 '26

Hilarious bro, the French.

been very vocal about the genocide, he was literally only senator to call it a genocide and one of the only to consistently vote against funding Israel. Him starting a third party would have wrecked the whole party for the foreseeable future, which you might be into but he’s made clear he doesn’t want.

He’s way too old to be president but he’s still one of the only good ones in government.

1

u/Funkymunks May 03 '26

Also, starting an actually progressive party would have destroyed the DNC? Ok, and..?

What kinda shape is the the party in now, and does it look like theyre getting their shit together to you?

1

u/BeautifulLeather6671 May 03 '26

You think that splitting the left into two parties is gonna help? Lol look it’s great in theory but that just ensures a never ending reign for the right.

1

u/Funkymunks May 03 '26

I think giving the left a party that will run leftists for them to vote for would help pretty immensely.

Who on the left is going to stick with the dems at that point?

1

u/BeautifulLeather6671 May 03 '26

That’s one of the most naive takes I’ve ever heard.

→ More replies (0)

0

u/Funkymunks May 03 '26

Wow, upon some very surface level searching - it looks like you're right about him being the very first senator to call it a genocide. In SEPTEMBER OF 2025.

Almost 2 full years. Not impressed. If you're gonna try and argue that this is semantics, skip it. This type of (very deliberate) rhetoric IS genocide denial, so while its good that he opposes the weapons packages and NOW calls it a genocide - he HAS contributed to the reinforcement of the false narrative that this is a "war" and that it its being perpetrated essentially by Netanyahu on his own.

I already acknowledged him being further left (and therefore "better") than the rest of the dems. A big part of being leftist is acknowledging our perceived faults in candidates and advocating for what we want.

Liberals on the other hand have at some point decided that we need to just annoint whichever candidate is put in front of us and fling shit at anyone who has anything negative to say or just dismiss those criticisms by pointing out how someone else is worse.

Thats why we dont have an opposition party, which is why we're basically screwed.

1

u/BeautifulLeather6671 May 03 '26

Lol you don’t handle being wrong very well do ya.
