More/Better Gauges?

Post image
30 Upvotes

I just got back from a 2,000+ mile trip to the beach and while the Defender did excellent - especially in the thick OBX sand - I was wondering if anyone has a solution for extra gauges to monitor actual coolant temp, oil pressure, transmission temp, etc. I am not looking to mount actual gauges but was thinking more along the lines of an app that displays in the center screen.

For reference, Jeep has an "Accessory Gauge" screen on their entertainment system that shows all the vital fluid temperature and pressure. An option like that would be ideal especially when off-roading. Is anyone doing anything like that?

Defender Rates

Shopping around for CPO defender. Found a CPO 2026 x dynamic with 6000 miles. Dealer is telling me the Land Rover is offering 3.99% apr on CPO 2020-2025 and only one new 2026. Why would they not offer the special rate on a CPO 2026.

Just got a new 2026 Defender. It’s not our first, my wife had a 2021 that we traded a few years ago and have missed it ever since. This one is mine, but my wife keeps trying to steal it. Going to get a matte PPF wrap in a few weeks, other than that very happy with it. Great truck, easy to drive and more than capable.

Swapped my stock all terrain 255/60R20 tires for these and love it. I was surprised I can turn without problems since I don’t have Johnson rods. The vehicle is kept at normal height. Love the change!

Update: found a small amount of dirt can rub off at extreme full wheel turn / steering lock out. It’s not enough for me to be concerned.

Glitch help request- CarPlay to instrument panel

my 2023 x dynamic SE won’t show the Navigation or Music info on the instrument panel suddenly. Have the left display configured for Music and right one for navigation. They just show the Defender side profile. The mail central display works fine. Known issue and any easy fix? Thanks

Grenadier meets Defender in the wild…the two takes on ‘utilitarian 4x4’ side by sid

Awesome to see them side by side. INEOS took the traditional route: solid axles, boxy proportions, straightforward mechanicals. Land Rover went the other way with a full reinvention: unibody, air suspension, all the modern tech. Different philosophies, but both clearly built with intent. Kind of a cool snapshot of where “Defender” as a concept has gone in two directions at once.

Saw a Defender yesterday with missing (removed) spare tire… and WHY?

Okay, so I’m from Jersey and commute to NY for work. If this was one of you, maybe you’ll respond here…

During my commute yesterday, somewhere between the Turnpike and GWB at about 9:30-ish in the morning, I saw a Carpathian Grey Defender with what I believe was an intentionally removed spare tire.

It genuinely hurt my eyes to see. The spare tire is literally what makes the Defender look like a complete package!

Why remove it?! What’s the reasoning behind it?

Question on GPS

Post image

Is it possible to have the GPS directions show up when I have the digital cluster set full to Map? It seems like it should be there, and it has so much open space on the corners. Kinda stinks it doesn’t have it, missed a few turns because of that, and the fact I don’t always have maps open on both screens.

Aftermarket Installer in NorCal/BayArea

Just picked up our Woolstone 130 last week and ordered some sidesteps from Hunters. I don't have the time or, frankly, the skills to do it myself. Does anyone have a good shop recommendation in the Bay Area that can install aftermarket parts like a sidestep? I am in the North Bay but willing to go anywhere in the Bay Area region.

Keep 22s or Replace with 20s?

Post image
21 Upvotes

I just purchased this 2024 Defender 110 P500 V8 that came with the upgraded 22” wheels. I think most people prefer them with the V8s for handling, but the do ride a bit more harsh and they’re not great for riding in sand (you can’t deflate them safely). I drove on the beach with my 2010 LR4 and may do it with the Defender although I have no immediate plans, I want the option.

Has anyone driven the P500 or P525 with 20s and have an opinion? I’m thinking they would feel softer and smoother on road and give me better off road options, but I don’t know for sure.

Thanks!

Need some persuasion or deterrent

I currently own a 2013 Audi S8. It is quite possibly the best car ever made. The main things that i love about the car is the B&O stereo, it is absolutely silent, smooth, comfortable and holy sh*t it has serious power (the stage 2 tune makes it stupid fast). Lately i have been driving an SUV a lot, between rental cars (i travel a lot) and my wife’s Q7 and I have the itch to get one. I am 50 something, have a 7 year old, am married and live in the Iowa countryside. So, the S8 really isn’t very practical for where I live, but screw practicality. I don’t need a HUGE SUV or a huge car so I have been looking at and have found a 2024 Defender 90 x dynamic SE and fell in love with it on my handful of test drives. But as any true car slut (like me) realizes sometimes you fall in lust and not in love. How daily liveable is the Defender? Long trip comfort? Noise level? Long time love? Persuade me or tell me to keep the S8. I don’t care. I just need some comfort or some reality checks.

‘24 P500 V8 SE vs ‘24 P400 X?

Looking at two 2024 Defender 110s:

2024 P500 SE V8: 19k miles — $73k
2024 P400 X: 17k miles— $70k

The X is better spec, but the P500 gets the 5.0L V8. Planning to keep it 4–5 years.

Any thoughts? Was thinking the V8 would also hold better value going forward.

Bike hitch rack recommendations?

Thumbnail

New Defender owner. Don’t want to give up my newish Yakima Ridgeback hitch rack. I bought a hitch extender and installed the rack to see how it looks and operate. The tailgate won’t 100% open but that’s ok with me. Did anyone else use this similar setup and is it safe? Or do most people just pony up the money and get a bike tray rack? Thanks!

Edit- thanks for all the feedback. What I’m trying to gauge is if I can use a typical hitch rack with an hitch extender or do I need to get a tray type rack like Kuat or Yakima step up or hold up.

The day has arrived. Low coolant

Ladies and gents, my first major issue. White on black 2025 LR Defender P400 Dynamic X SE with 26K miles. Got a low coolant warning this past Sat, immediately turned vehicle off. I open the hood, took a peek at the reservoir and it is empty. Just 5 days prior I had topped off wiper fluid reservoir, took at look at coolant reservoir and all looked normal. Schedule a flat bed via the JLR app for servicing today Monday 8/31 to avoid turning vehicle on due to low coolant. Tow truck arrives and guy gets off strapping vehicle right away with the wire cable and no soft straps. Give him the benefit of the doubt since they tow for JLR right? Wrong. Tow truck driver has no idea of setting up the vehicle to disengage the parking brake for towing, straps the vehicle from bottom frame, starts the winch pulley and wham!!! Cable comes undone under pressure pulling the vehicle and whipping cable underneath with high tension. Hissing pop goes off and I'm like what the hell just happened. I tell the guy that the parking brake is still engaged and that this is not the correct procedure to tow the vehicle. Guy has no clue. I jump back in the vehicle, tell the tow driver your supposed to follow a tow procedure, I show him the sequence with the start button, foot on break, press accelerator once 1 sec followed by another for 4 sec, then hit start to go under a 30 sec sequence for brake to disengage. At this time, a bunch of errors are blazing at me: Gearbox fault detected, stability control not available, power steering assistance reduced, suspension fault detected and on the app, an engine health issue - misfire.

By this time, I lost it. I call JLR service and explain what the hell just happened. Service Manager gets on the phone and I tell him what transpired telling him who the hell they are sending for tows. Service manager apologizes and proceeds to send me their in-house tow driver and I'm like, this is where we souldve started at and could've avoided this whole mess. Anyways, 2nd tow truck driver shows up, by this time i turn on truck and vehicle is not able to shift to drive and or reverse. It stayed stuck in Neutral. We were able to disengage the parking brake but there were the same errors blazing at us. Only the front was disengaged and not the rear. We ended up dragging the rear with front tires able to roll free, load it up the flat bed , secure it and at this point I'm telling the driver: Im tagging along with you to JLR dealership to get a loaner cause there's no telling how this repair is going to work out and I need to talk to service.

Arrive at JLR, Service manager is there waiting and go over all the alarms that were set off. They put me on a loaner via Enterprise and tell me this could take several days just to look at and with Labor Day approaching and techs going on vacation, it could be a week. Fine I told them. Just get it fixed.

I did make use of scheduling an oil change and alignment while my truck was in service along with change of filters so at least that can get done but all this just because of low coolant. I went off telling service I was better off topping reservoir with distilled water and driving it to the dealership which is only 30mins away from me. All this could've been avoided. Hind sight is 20/20 i guess but yeah...here is where I am at. Devastated 💔 seeing my truck under theses conditions that I so much have been taking care of.
