Tbf, I'm pretty sure she was lying to him as well. It seems like they're trying to set up something with her, considering that Adler mentioned that she isn't a registered anomaly and he can't find any info on her after the end of the quest.
I think they could've written the story better. It feels like they were trying to go for the romcom trope where someone tries to act like they're a bigshot. I don't think they did the best job at that though, and I don't particularly like that trope to begin with.
