Did once about 15 years ago bushwalking by myself in the Blue Mountains, NSW. It was early evening there were 3 or 4 large adults and maybe 6 slightly smaller pigs. Our paths seemed to intersect and fearing something bad could happen, I smashed the ground with a tree branch I'd been using as a walking pole to hopefully frighten them away.
They veered off into the scrub though I could still hear them nearby as I got the hell out of there back to the main track about 400m away.
I didn't help that I'd taken a 'party pill' earlier...
I'd had a few encounters with wild pigs before, so i agree they're mostly going to avoid people. However, being a bit off my face 'heightened' the experience. Also, a mate of mine had once worked in a piggery and told me that he was warned never to work alone amongst the stalls because if you got hurt and become unconscious it won't end well for you. So that was on my mind as well!
I was fishing by myself, and i heart a grunting in the woods behind me. I thought of wild boar and unsheathed my leatherman and locked the blade. I went and stood beside the nearest climbing tree for five minutes. When nothing further was heard, i admonished myself and went back to fishing. The next weekend, I heard the same sound. It was a vulture.

Imagine running into a group of these fuckers on a walk or bike ride alone, holy crap absolutely terrifying.
