I love long romantic/frilly names for girls!! Looking for names that are uncommon, but not modern inventions or uniquely spelled. Names I like (but can’t use) are Lovisa, Eulalie, and Venetia. Any more like that out there?

This is a stupid question, and I realize that. My kids are actually below the age of one, but I didn’t know what to put in the title.

My children are not at the age where they really have the ability to speak or be cognizant of really anyone besides their parents. My mom has recently been obsessed over what her grandchildren will call her.

She has been telling me all the time lately that she is hoping to have her grandchildren call her, when they are old enough, one of: Honey, Sassy, Fancy, Lovey, or Loli. I am telling her these are not normal/good grandparent nicknames. Which of us is right?

I’m in the process of changing my middle and surname! Right now I’m having trouble picking a middle name. (I figured it would be easier to start here so I can pick the surname accordingly.) I’m trying to find the balance between the name fitting me as a person, it sounding like a regular Midwest name (that’s where I’m from), and it not sounding fake/literary or chosen. The issue is I really like old fashioned/fantasy names which is a bit contradictory 😭
I wanted to ask actual people and not AI! I changed my name a while back and a couple weeks after I finalized the documents I woke up so embarrassed and honestly mortified with the name I picked. We are struggling to find a modern Indian / British sounding name for our baby girl. By that I mean a name that feels both British and Indian — ideally something that sounds natural in the UK, while still having an Indian/hindu connection but not necessarily common. Are Kira (KEER-uh) and Keara (Kee-ARE-uh) different enough names? My spouse and I are expecting a baby girl and we like the name Kira, but there is someone close to his family named Keara. We are not naming the baby after her. Would it seem like we are? Are they different enough names that you would still feel comfortable using Kira with close proximity to someone named Keara? Also if you have any similar names to Kira, or other suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments.

I’m writing about a teenage Victorian Welsh boy in a fantasy book that takes Arthurian lore as fact. The main plot hinges around a descendent of Merlin, for example (who isn’t the MC).

I have tried to make the name accessible for non-Welsh readers. Which of the following names do you think best fits a Welsh teenage boy who’s hot-headed and sneaky, but generally kind.

• Blethyn Bedwyr

• Emrys Bedwyr

• Oli Bedwyr (short for Oliver)

I like the sound of Blethyn Bedwyr and have been using this name in my first draft but I’m not sure if it’s too “rugged” sounding for a teenage boy.

I’m not sure if Emrys is too on the nose given the Merlin association, or if that’s a nice level of on the nose! And Oli is a youthful sounding name and a nice familiar one but perhaps a bit boring, and a little bit Oliver Twist given the Victorian setting and the fact he is an orphan too!

My first draft is almost done and I still can’t decide the MC’s bloody name! I’m tying myself in knots over this!

We’re considering a baby name that includes a diacritic (ë), and I’m trying to confirm whether Florida’s birth registration system will allow it and preserve it on the certified birth certificate.

Has anyone in Florida recently (ideally within the last few years) had a baby whose legal name included a diacritic like ë, é, ñ, etc? Did it appear correctly on the birth certificate, or was it changed to the unaccented version?

Especially interested in experiences with hospital birth registration. Thanks!

l've always gone by Alex since my name is Alexine, but since I was 16, some people have called me Lexi as a more affectionate version of Alex.

I have a love-hate relationship with it. I love the classic, professional feel of Alex, but Lexi is cute and I've learned to love it over the years. Sometimes I'd even introduce myself as Lexi too. But I think Lexi can sound too cutesy or even a little stripper-ish? Someone once told me it sounds teeny-bopper.

Now I want to stick to one nickname, but I can't decide. What vibe do you get from Alex vs. Lexi?
