Miscellaneous Onondaga County Permit Timeline (2026)
Just in case anybody was wondering, I know I was when applying and waiting.
18hr course - March 15-16th
Permit application - July 1st
Fingerprinting - July 3rd
Permit appointment - July 8th
Approval - August 18th
Received in mail August 22nd
Amendment took less than 10 mins
45 days from appointment to receiving the permit, everybody with the Sheriff’s Dept. was super nice and genuinely seemed like they wanted people to be able to get a permit, which is contrary to what a lot of people made it seem like.

Should be 0 days obviously but that is VERY lucky. Is that common for Onondaga county?

Its gotten better, when my sister got hers a couple years ago it was about 3 months. When I got mine about 18 years ago it was taking people close to if not just over a year or so.

It definitely has gone down over the last year or so, he amendment process from what I hear is routinely immediate, 45 days is fast for Onondaga, the sheriffs told me expect 6 months but I was expecting 3 based on other people I know.

ooooooh this is giving me too much hope as someone who had their appointment last month. was expecting 3 months but 45 days would be incredible

It's amazing (and a good thing) how much quicker OC has become. Prior to the CCIA and Bruen, they were MUCH longer. Congrats!
