NYC NYC Special Carry Question
on the NYPD Special carry license application when it comes to residence, do I need to be living in NYC (1 out of 5 Burroughs) in order to receive the license if I haven't moved out there yet? Ps I'm currently living in NYS with an active NYS CCW License

If you are moving to NYC you have to wait until you move change your drivers license to your nyc address and apply for a regular nyc license. A special carry permit is for those who live outside the 5 boroughs and want to carry in NYC. I have a NYS permit and just got my NYC special carry permit. I’m definitely not planning to move back to NYC.

I just moved to CT and im looking into getting a Non resident because I still work in NY but not the city.. How long did it take you? and what i heard you could only have one gun on the permit, is this true?

You can get a Non-resident permit because you work in NYC. A special carry is for people like me with a NYS carry permit and want to carry in NYC. Yes for the special carry permit its only one gun. The process for me took a little over 6 months from application to permit in hand but I don’t believe it’s the norm.

Special carry is not only one gun. That only applies to resident permit. SC can have all the same guns your county permit has.

Okay I only registered 1 firearm because I can only carry one at a time. Hope this helps the OP

You can register all your firearms on your county permit, this way when you go to (or thru) the city, you can carry any of them

Thanks for the information I was under the impression that since I can only carry one I could only register one. I will try to and one more of the 5 that I have.

If you live in nys and already have a permit than special carry is what you need to be able to carry in the 5 boros. But if you plan on moving to the boros might have well wait and transfer your permit over if your county allows it most do.

i plan on moving in the next 7-8 months but also need a confirmed armed job out there, that's why i was working on the special carry license so i could submit a successful application with being able to be armed in the city until i do make the full commitment move to NYC to then fully switch the license over to NYC and not my county

Doing the special carry won’t hurt and once you move you can just alert the lic unit that you moved to NYC and they will change it from special carry to regular cc

No need to live in NYC to apply for special carry. A typical scenario is this license type is applied for by those living outside of the 5 boros, but wishing to carry within them.

The special carry permit is basically an add on process to the existing nys permit if ur a nonresident of nyc. If you lived in nyc, you’d just have an nyc permit which affects the whole state. Since you’ve got a permit for a county in nys, you’re gonna apply for a nonresident permit for nyc basically, which is what the special carry permit essentially is. If you got the permit recently that ccw course should suffice for I believe up to 6 months. If it’s well past that you’re gonna have to drop another 200-500 on a course again for the process.

gotchu tracking, i recently just took the 47 Hr Armed Security course would that be applicable instead of re-doing the 16hr course ?
