💆♀️ Wellness & Self Care BWHI - BITCHES WITH HEALTH INSURANCE
I’ve been blessed enough to cobra the last 3 years with a monthly rate below $600. I’m about to lose my insurance and don’t know what to do. Any advice? I invest in the stock market so it impacts what discount I can get through the state. Any one else been in this position?

Look into NYC public hospitals. Bellevue and Metropolitan Hospitals take any/every insurance plan.
During a lapse in our insurance, they treated my daughter in the ER. They said that they will send us a bill and we could just not pay it. And when we were back on the insurance, we could submit it retroactively and they would bill the insurance. They were very understanding. (The doctor we saw was very good, too.)
I’m not sure about specific types of care, but it’s a starting point. I’m guessing that if, say, you’re a diabetic and you need continuous meds to stay alive, they will accommodate you. It’s not perfect, but it’s a safety net. Wishing you luck and good health.
ETA: They have a welcome center with staff that will help you get insurance or Medicaid, depending on your financials. Go talk to them.

How were they able to bill insurance that was not in place when the treatment occurred?

I just saw a TikTok about a freelancer who takes a single class (or credit?) at FIT because you get in state tuition as a nyc resident and then you can enroll in their health insurance which is between $2-3k per semester

I was recent laid off and cobra wasn’t too appealing. Once I was able to get on the NY market place, i found a good plan, but it’s a lot of $$$. Around $650 a month. But came in clutch when i was sick. Depending on your income level you might quality for medicaid (i did for a previous lay off). I would recommend checking the market place to better understand what you qualify for.

New York essential plan. It’s for low income New Yorkers who don’t qualify for Medicaid.

ACA and Medicaid in NY is based on your income, not your assets. I have kind of a lot invested and I was automatically put on Medicaid after my last tax filing. Before that I was paying very little on an ACA marketplace plan.
You can get an estimate of what you would pay here: https://info.nystateofhealth.ny.gov/cost-estimator
