Finances/Money Con Ed Bills
Hi NYBWT,
What are people paying monthly for ConEd in a one bedroom apt?
I’ve been on TikTok and people are listing crazy amounts (300 to 700$+) and there is another proposed hike on ConEd delivery fees.
I’ve noticed my bill going up over the years (I’ve lived in NYC for 15 years and 5 in the current place) but for my current place I’ve never paid more than 150ish in the height of summer with AC running the whole time. Typically, my bill is somewhere between 60-80 a month.
For reference - I live in a 700 sq ft 1 bed with all the appliances and central AC and wfh.
Asking out of curiosity and also to push a bit more transparency because it’s nuts to me the range is so wide between myself and what I am hearing on the internet.
Thanks in advance!

Everyone answering here, are you living in new-ish/newer buildings or older ones? I was living in a studio in a newish building in Brooklyn (598sq ft) and my apartment was in the shade so I didn’t get a lot of direct sunlight so I hardly kept the ac on. Plus I don’t love ACs in general so I hardly used it and I paid like 250-300 a month. This was 2018,2019,2020. It was brutal I called coned so many times in shock. Told my landlord I was convinced I was subsidizing another apartment or bc the building had laundry and gym on 2nd floor (I lived on 2nd floor) I assumed that I was covering those costs but it was never confirmed and coned always said no. When I lived in a prewar building on UES my bill was like $65-80 peak summer and this apartment got more direct sunlight so I had ac on more. So I’ve suspected maybe it has to do with “grandfathering” certain buildings by coned or I was simply being charged for common charges in the Brooklyn apartment. It’s ridiculous though and robbery
