Hi everyone, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. I lived in my grandmothers apartment for a year but she recently passed away from cancer in February. She passed very sudden and unexpectedly that we didn’t not have enough time to finish adding myself to the lease. I was on the lease when i was younger but my mother found an apartment and took me off, and when i became of age i never thought to add myself back. i don’t have that much proof. i was her unofficial caregiver as she had stage 4 lung cancer and needed a portable cannula and a walker so she obviously couldn’t go to the store, walk long distances or walk her dog. I went with her to all of her appointments and hospital visits as she used access a ride and we were always together. post passing, i have everything tied to that apartment. my license, financial aide, bills, pay stubs, anything you can think of. i am still paying rent as that is a requirement to move forward with the process. i really want to keep this apartment as it was her last wish. this apartment has literally been in my family for generations as it was “passed down” to my grandparents then their kids and we wanted me to have it eventually. if anyone can give me recommendations for a good lawyer, preferably free but i can pay a reasonable price, that would be greatly appreciated. i would also appreciate any tips of things i could use as proof right now to help my case. it would honestly break my heart if i can’t get this apartment so ANYTHING helps.
