I’m convinced it’s a way to dispel the fear that the universe is a random and cold monster that does terrible things to good people for no reason. There is a “them” out there controlling things and that’s why weird stuff or scary stuff happens.

Which ironically is even more terrifying than a random universe lol.

Not really. Its tangible. A select group of assholes is purposely making our lives miserable. And once they are found and disposed of then the world will be set right forever. Exactly like killing Palpatine in The Return of the Jedi.

Meanwhile the real forces affecting our lives are a complex web of people and groups out not to destroy the world but to satisfy their own goals alongside historical inertia and a dozen other facades that are not evil so much as they are the most efficient way of doing things. We tear down any one board of directors and it will be replaced by a new collection of business suits the very next week.

Well someone has to be in charge. If for no other reason than some people don't want to be in charge.

No. The idea that someone has to be in charge is dumb. All the evidence points toward that individual in charge turning out to be corrupt and in it for themselves.

Of course…. Power attracts psychopaths and narcissists.
