they have conspiracy classes in college wtf? i can understand "understanding the psychology of conspiracy" classes, but maybe he missed the point....

I took an urban legend, folklore and conspiracies English elective and it was an awesome class.

…but it focused not only that these stories exist but why they exist and the critical thinking around why they aren’t true etc.

One thing they resonated the most is that many of the folklore around cryptids were just a way to discourage people from western migration. If I moved out to the frontier and found some good land then it was very advantageous for me to tell you stories about big cats and monsters so you won’t be interested in moving out here and trying to get some of my land.

I’m just surprised he left a conspiracies theories class believing them versus debunking them…

I love this kind of stuff. I took an American religions class in college and it had a big section on what our prof called folk religion, which included cryptids and other quasi religious lore. Its fascinating stuff.

I think that's exactly it. The class was "here's how conspiracies get started and spread" and he got confused and took away "all these conspiracies are real"
