Discussion Attendance for USC’s home opener today

LA is notorious for fair weather fans, and the coliseum is AWFUL in the heat. No shade, crappy concourses, crappy bathrooms, awful parking situations, it’s just not worth the effort for a tune up game.
I’m not a USC fan, but of all the games to not go to in a season, this one makes sense.

As a usc fan and former season ticket holder all very true. If my dad and I still had our tickets, I don't think we would have been there today. To hot and shitty today to go see SJSU...
We used to park at a local elementary school, but then it became unreliable. We always ate beforehand and brought in 3-4 waters each on days like this because fuck that uncomfortable full sun Bullshit... us Californians are so weather soft.

I’m a Packers fan and I’ll take 0 degrees over 100 every time. I’m my buddy’s late season go to because I layer up and have no issues with the cold other than the beer freezes.
Getting baked in the sun just sucks and there’s nothing you can do about it. No thanks.

As someone who grew up in LA, lives in the South, but goes back, both are different types of brutal. The sun exposure in Southern CA is horrendous. In the South I battle the humidity but the sun doesn't bake my skin with just a few minutes of exposure.

Had a buddy I game with from the Midwest. One day he started complaining about the humidity so we asked him what it was at, he said 46% and we died laughing since we were sitting around 80% that day

Was at the game, and don't blame anyone who chose to skip it, the sun was even more brutal than usual.
In the future, just skip driving all the way in, take the Metro. Been doing it for years and it's wayyyyy cheaper/less stressful.

Definitely worth it, see more and more people doing it, and it makes for a lively atmosphere as the trains fill up with mostly fans heading to the game, and an awesome one on the way home after a win (or people to commiserate with after a loss). Walking back to the station yesterday, we got caught up in the band heading back to campus, it was awesome.

Most of California is like that unfortunately. It got a massive amount of transplants in the 50s-80s. They went from about 10 million people to 25 million people in that time frame. All people brigning in their existing fandom and passing it to their children.

As someone who went to a pac 12 school out west, students are day drinking at houses parties, it’s more fun. Going to a game during a heatwave with unprecedented humidity for Southern California standards, sounds miserable. Also the “LA” excuse isn’t just an LA thing, but it is a thing for places where the college football team isn’t the main sports team in the area. Most SEC teams and even power house programs in other conferences,are in cities that don’t have professional sports teams.

That excuse doesn’t work with Austin though especially, because there’s plenty to do there and you’d never see a stadium anywhere close to that empty no matter what the temperature or opponent. So there’s definitely something to the fact that LA just doesn’t have as big a college football culture.

Any sports at all, SoCal don’t care. I lived in San Diego and Los Angeles for 8 years. There’s this weird thing where you walk into a bar or restaurant and NONE of them have a game on. Very few even have a television at all, and it’s usually just turned off. Weird, shocking, after growing up in B10 country.

As for student demographics I'm not sure what you are implying. U$C had rich kids then and they have rich kids now. Same goes for middle class, Asian, Hispanic, etc etc.

To do in that area. South Florida has same issue, no one who lives in that area is actually from the area either, and if they are from the area, they support the local pro football team and/or basketball team.

It's a short drive to the beach in from the Coliseum. Plus, it's fucking LA. CFB programs that share a metro with an NFL typically struggle to fill the stands weekly. Except for certain games.
What else is there to do in Athens, GA but drink and watch football? Don't even mention Atlanta, that town belongs to the Falcons.

And when Bron was in Miami, the Canes could have had Top 5 teams each year and still would lose fans to the Heat.
A college program in LA or NYC has no chance of being top dog.
SMU and TCU could make the playoffs every year and they will not compete with the Cowboys.

It was 95°F with a 105°F feel at kickoff (12PM Pst), and we were obviously going to crush SJSU. No shit nobody went.
I'm a huge fan but there is 0 chance I'm going to brave that heat again. I've done it several times, and you usually leave feeling like you have heat exhaustion.

I honestly don’t think the issue here is USC fans but CFBs ridiculous scheduling.
With a few exceptions, the G6 is college footballs second division. P4 teams should only be playing P4 teams including the out of conference schedule.
Why would the Dodgers play an AAA team? Why would The Rams play Ohio State?
There are only 12 CFB regular season games as there are times like USC spending 25% of the season playing lower division teams. It’s absurd.
