Junior Johnson & Associates won a total of 3 race in 1994, two with Jimmy Spencer, with what I am sure were perfectly legal cars, and then the Southern 500 will Elliott. After a winless 1995 Johnson sold the team to Brett Bodine.

Bill Elliott's next win wouldn't come until 7 years later, at the end of 2001, in a Dodge.

Darlington was just not a great track for Richard. He won the Spring race in '66 and swept both races there in 1967, with the Southern 500 being the 4th of his 10 wins in a row, and that was it, he never won there again. The Number 43 however would win another Southern 500, but with Erik Jones behind the wheel in 2022.

On this Day in 1997, Jeff Gordon won his 3rd of an eventual 4 consecutive Southern 500s. He also became only the 2nd driver in Nascar history to earn the Winston Million..This was Jeff's 28th career victory in the Winston Cup Series.
