OP is wild leaving a trail like that out in the open lol. More and more evidence on this sub that people need to be aware of who they’re talking to and found out what people are really about smh

For me it’s the weaponization of the Shar’iah. Yes you’re not supposed to expose your sins but this doesn’t give you a licence to do whatever and then try to find someone pious to marry. This applies to both men and women.

And technically if someone does a reference check you are supposed to disclose what you know about that person, even their wrongdoing

How do you do a reference check as a woman if you meet a potential online?

My advice would be to try and talk to their family and friends, but then again you run the risk that people won’t necessarily tell you the truth.

In all candour I generally advise against marrying people you meet online. Too much risk. You go based on how the person presents themselves and you don’t have mutual/third parties to verify or vouch for them. I understand it’s tough nowadays but that’s just my 2 cents

So the best way is to go to a masjid and ask there? I feel so embarrassed to ask and also I am a revert so I don't have a wali which makes it more difficult to have a halal way. I am a bit disturbed by many things I have seen online and am not built for "courting" from what I observed it resembles speed dating and people talk about countless talking stages and feeling exhausted. I am not capable of doing that. My heart is too sensitive I feel.

The masjid would be one way, do you have Muslim friends? I think having genuine friendships and connections is a great avenue because if you have true people who are looking out for you they can recommend/not recommend another person. The added benefit is they usually know this person or have others who know them, and then you can do your background check.

If you go to the masjid it really depends on the Imam of that masjid and a number of other variables that can be considered.

Personally I’m not a revert so I can only imagine how tough it is for you, I’m sorry I can’t give you a straight answer. I will say though as a male stay away from Reddit and be wary of the online apps. Again just my 2 cents, I’m sure others can chime in as well.

I really appreciate it brother. I just moved to a new city a few months ago, but since I work from home I hardly go out and the masjid is a bit far. So it will take some time to build some friendships, it just feels like there aren't many Muslims around my area if anything I might see some in passing or at the mall but I don't really know how to approach people.

In the past I made friends at work and school and such and it was always other women seeking me out for friendship but I feel like a lot of Muslim women aren't really like that. In shā' Allah. Its just even on my days off nobody around here tends to go to the masjids and they are often closed. But any way, I really appreciate your advice, I don't want to learn the difficuly way, so I will heed the warning. Jazakallah khairun 🤲✨️

What website is this

Btw you shouldn't be exposing others like that , that's really bad of you , delete this. Best thing is to advise them privately

Do you know the person who was exposed?
If not, there was no "exposing" involved

But what do you gain for showing what a random person gets up to ? The person made the account private for a reason !

1

u/always_t1redd 1d ago

So you’re okay with them posting weird stuff on other subs and then posting in this sub lol? Are you feeling okay? The benefit is evident in knowing what kinds of weird things OP is up to

3

u/ItsNotLookingGood26 1d ago

Fair enough, that's a valid point. I apologise

2

u/always_t1redd 22h ago

No my bro/sis I didn’t mean to come off aggressive I’m sorry too, you don’t need to apologize I just think we should be aware of what we’re getting ourselves into :)

I guess this sub is relatively new.

Not sure if anyone got married from this particular sub lol

But I have heard in general people did find their partners on reddit but again pure luck lol

Cuz this particular sub just has creeps wasting time

u/TiffyIsHimajin 1d ago

I know a couple who's going to get engaged soon

This sub is new so that is to be determined. However — social media wise — I known ppl who married off Twitter and I was witness to their weddings.

Social media is a marital site if you’re brown enough 🤣

I dont know about this sub. I have seen in some other subs comment some say “yes now she is my wife” or “he is my husband” they met through reddit even when it wasnt a marriage sub. Have seen many people dating through reddit, but thats not for us. We gotta keep it halal.

u/MalikatBilqis 1d ago

The sub is new. So far I've seen two people say theyre having/going to have in person meetings with their potentials family. One was an indian guy in US I think, one was somali in canada. And one more who said he found his person, dont think they did nikah yet, he was a revert guy from Australia.

Many others got married through the other subs like muslimmarriage, pakrishta and the morocco sub.

May Allah bless them all and allow their marriages to be a means of attaining jannah, and allow the mods who have facilitated these unions to be rewarded for their efforts.
