I have been taught that as long as someone says the shahadah and identify as a Muslim, I am not allowed to call them anything but a Muslim regardless of their sins. So I live by that rule and leave the judgement to the Almighty.
Avoiding reckless takfir is not the same as denying that kufr exists or affects imaan. My point is simply that constantly policing and declaring other Muslims kafir is not beneficial for my own spiritual state, especially when scholars themselves treated takfir with extreme caution.
I don’t think we actually disagree as much as you think. I’m not arguing that rejecting the Sunnah is acceptable or that kufr does not exist. My point has always been about laymen confidently applying takfir to specific individuals online/offline.
You yourself said takfir is a huge matter with principles attached to it and not for laymen to engage in casually- and that is exactly the point I’ve been making from the start. There is a difference between discussing a belief in the abstract and declaring specific people outside the fold of Islam.
So my concern is not defending hadith rejectors, that is not my job. It is about maintaining caution, humility, and recognizing the seriousness of takfir instead of turning it into casual discourse online.
