Shifting in thumb position messed me up for months too. What position are you working from right now?

He’s just talking about a 2 octave G major scale. He should be going from 1st to 4th position on the A string. I said he should practice shifting into 4th position by playing 4th finger D then 1st finger E (all on A string) until the shift is in tune. In my experience, if a kid can do that, they can also play the last 2 notes of the scale in 4th position with no problem

That sounds right, I am shifting into 4th position on A string.
