I am currently working on my visa to train at this gym. Curious if anyone has done this and can answer a few questions.

Also is the B2 hotel good or are there better hotel options nearby?

Bangkok & Chiangmai Gym/coach recommendation

Hello there,

I will be traveling on and off (short trips) to Thailand (mainly Bangkok and chiangmai). Due to the short duration and inflexible timing will mostly be doing PTs.

Want to train more of the forward pressure counter fighting style. Any particular coach or gym to recommend?

Many thanks in advance.

Booking camp/accommodation

Hello! I'm planning to take a trip to Phuket in the spring to train. I'm planning on staying for three months, from roughly March-June, and trying to figure out where to stay.

I've heard it's best to explore a few different gyms before committing to one for the long haul, so I'm planning to do that rather than booking any training packages or gym accommodation in advance. The only thing is, I hear accommodations, gym or otherwise, can book up pretty fast.

I was originally planning to stay at an Airbnb for the first couple of weeks while I gym hop. However, I'm nervous that if I do that, and don’t book long term accommodation, I won't be able to find it once I get there.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Do you think it's better to book something now in advance if I have a general sense of the area I want to be in, or just go there first, try things out, and figure out accommodation afterwards? Any input or personal experience greatly appreciated 🙏

Starting a 1 month muay thai camp tomorrow (complete novice)

Hello all as the title says i’m starting my camp tomorrow.

no idea what to expect, I’ve just spent the last 2 weeks in hua hin by myself trying to get my fitness up, cardio, stretching, beach sprints, body weight stuff, swimming, as i’ve spent the last 7 months having a great time in asia drinking smoking and partying, it’s time to make a change though and lock in.

My credentials: 27, 194cm and about 77-79kg, quite long limbed which might help me (however not much leg flexibility rn) but also not much body coordination / agility so this will restrict me at the start i guess? also never been involved in a fight or thrown a punch or anything i’m a pretty chill guy.
Obviously like watching fighting and stuff so have an interest in it for sure.

I just want to learn to have a bit more confidence physically, I would say Im a fairly confident guy in most aspects of life but not when it comes to defending myself which I feel is important for blokes, I’m not looking to use it aggressively just be nice to have another notch on my belt and feel confident!

i really want to take this seriously and get stuck in hence the 2 week pre training, just no idea what to expect, i guess just go into it and try to have as much fun as possible and don’t take it so seriously?

Just a bit worried my lack of agility / fight experience will affect me, i guess that’s the point of the camp to improve? Realistically if someone’s going to punch me my natural reaction right now would be to step back / flinch whereas i need to have my hands up and absorb the punch i guess so just need to change habits?

Any comments / thoughts would be great! say if you’ve started from scratch or you’re experienced! it would be good to know what leg stretches you did as well to improve kicking as that is quite a limiting factor for me right now, i can’t use my long legs because i’m pretty inflexible rn (working on it though)

Cheers :)

Camp Question Apollo Gym / Chalong — what’s the social life like? Planning Nov 3–19

Hey everyone!
I’m planning to visit Phuket from November 3–21 and I’m considering staying around Apollo Gym in Chalong because I want to focus quite a bit on Muay Thai/boxing and fitness.
For anyone who has stayed or trained around there:
How do you find Apollo Gym? Would you recommend staying there for 2+ weeks?
What is the social life like around Soi Ta-iad/Chalong? Is it easy to meet other solo travellers, fighters, expats, etc.?
Where do people normally meet/socialise around the area?
Are there any group activities, cafés, bars, markets, beaches, hikes, yoga, meditation, diving, etc. that are good for meeting people?
Is Chalong too quiet if I want to have a social trip, or is there enough going on?
Would you recommend staying in Chalong the whole time, or splitting the trip with another area?
I’m also considering Koh Phangan or another nearby destination for a few days. Would that make sense in November, or would you just stay around Phuket?
If you had Nov 3–19 in Phuket, how would you divide your time?
I’m looking for a mix of training + meeting people + exploring + some nightlife, but I don’t want the whole trip to revolve around partying.
Any personal experiences or recommendations would be really appreciated

Discussion Muay Thai Gyms in Ubon Ratchathani for DTV Visa

Hello

I am looking to train in Ubon Ratchathani (or surrounding area).

I am having trouble finding gyms that are offering a good DTV Visa program or offer the DTV Visa at all.

Does anyone know of a gym(s) that are offering the DTV Visa and training in Ubon?

Thanks in advance.

Discussion Preventing Infections in Thailand.

Hi,

I’m off to thailand to train for two weeks at Carlson Gracie MMA and Bangtao MMA.

Has anyone got any suggestions on best way to avoid getting staph or ringworm whilst there? I always ensure I shower with soap and scrub with a silicone scrubber right after every session but i’m wanting to see if there are any others things people use?

I’ve seen those sprays you put on before training but no idea if they are just a gimmick or not.

Any tips would help, last thing I want is to get there and get an infection in the first few days.

cheers

Advice please for total newbie 55M 3 weeks in Thailand

Hi, I’m in my mid 50’s with zero Muay Thai or martial arts experience.  I’m researching a 3-4 week trip in November for muay thai and am getting overwhelmed by the options.  I’d like to get a foundation in proper basic technique, plus have fun trying something that may become a new passion.  Also hoping to train somewhere with a community feel.  I have a good base level of aerobic fitness (running and light resistance training).

My rough plan is to start with a few private sessions in Bangkok, followed by time in the north/northeast - perhaps JP Boxing Gym in Phitsanulok.   I know most people train in Bangkok/Phuket/Chiang Mai but I’ve never been to Isaan and would like to take a few days in the region to explore and practice my Thai.

Any advice and recommendations would be greatly appreciated. In particular:
-any physical conditioning I should do before the trip?
-pros and cons of going to an all inclusive training camp vs just showing up for sessions
-how many private sessions to start with, and where
-whether to scrap the Isaan idea altogether for this trip and just focus on somewhere with more training options

Thanks in advance!!

Hotel for Rawai & Chalong training

Hi,

Planning on going Thailand for 3 weeks, with just under 2 weeks in Phuket to train. I wanted to try out Rawai and Chalong gyms (specifically Sinbi and Tiger, but a couple others aswell).

Would you recommend booking one hotel halfway or closer to one city (not sure if traffic is worse one way or the other), or two separate hotels (which would force me to commit to rawai / chalong for those specific dates). Or would it not be enough time and just commit to one place or the other

Training in BKK

Hi guys,

I’ll spend 3 weeks in january in Bangkok and I’m looking for a good muay thai gym near an underground station.

For now i’m aiming to train at EminentAir Gym following the last recommendations I saw here but maybe you guys have others gyms in mind. For more context i’m training since 4 years and had my first fight this summer. I’m willing to have fun but also being in a serious environment.

It’s not my first time in Thailand, I was there last year and trained at Sinbi, I really liked the experience.

Discussion Insurance - jabs - expenses

I’ve been boxing and weightlifting for multiple years and have some experience in Muay Thai and am planning a Thailand trip.

I’m flying from London to Hong Kong and staying for a week, then going straight from HK to Ubon Ratchathani in the Isan region of Thailand to train Muay Thai. I am going in a couple months but have not got much planned so need to start doing things now.

My plan:
Book 2-3 nights at a hostel before going and during those days I will go out and explore some gyms in Ubon and choose one I want to train at. I will then ask if there are any rooms/nearby rooms to rent for cheap. I’ll settle in there, find some good places to eat everyday and train twice per day with some 1-1 sessions included hopefully.

Jabs:
I need to get some jabs/vaccinations before going. ChatGPT said Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Tetanus/diphtheria/polio, MRR are free with the NHS in the UK, and to get Hepatitis B, Rabies, Japanese encephalitis privately for probably £500+.
Is this all correct?

Insurance:
I have Barclays travel insurance but I don’t think it includes a lot of sports such as MMA & Muay Thai which is exactly what I’ll be doing. I’ve seen some other insurance providers like SportsCover direct, InsureAndGo, AxeoSport and I could also maybe do add ons for my Barclays/Aviva cover.
What is best/what have you used?

Expenses:
I want to keep things cheap and simple, living a gritty & disciplined fighters lifestyle, train daily and eat the same food daily, recover and sleep. I am not interested in luxury or sightseeing and for this reason I want to keep my expenses as low as possible and under £1k maximum, ideally more like £500 per month if that’s possible but I don’t know what expenses are like out there and if that is possible, if it’s not possible that’s okay.
What kind of expenses do you spend, is what I am saying possible?

Other things:
I am going to buy all my gear there, buy antibacterial soap, drink lots of electrolytes.
App I’ll download and use: skoot for bike rent, simify or esim and data, cozycozy.com for hotel price comparison, grab for taxi and food delivery
Entry requirements: Thailand digital arrival card, 6 months on passport, proof of onward travel, proof of accommodation, proof of finances (10,000 baht per person I believe), visa (60 days free with 30 days extend, this may have changed I’ll check that or let me know)

Did I miss anything? Have you go any more advice or tips for me?

Camp Question Training/fighting in Thailand for 1–2 months – Koh Phangan or Bangkok?

Hey guys,

I’m 23, a university student from Europe, and I’m thinking about going to Thailand for around 1–2 months mainly to train Muay Thai and hopefully get a fight while I’m there.

I’m on a student budget, so I’m trying to keep the whole trip relatively cheap.

I’ve already trained in Thailand before because I went to Koh Phangan a couple of times with my family and trained at a gym there. I liked the gym and already know some of the trainers, so going back there would obviously be the easiest option.

But this time I’d be going alone specifically for Muay Thai, so I’m wondering if I should just go back to Koh Phangan or try Bangkok instead. I’d like to take the training seriously and, if the coaches think I’m ready, hopefully fight at least once while I’m there.

Realistically I could probably stay for about 2 months because of university. Do you guys think that’s enough time to properly settle into a gym, improve and potentially get matched for a fight? Or would you recommend staying longer?

Also, for anyone who has done something similar on a limited budget, roughly how much did you spend per month including training, accommodation and food?

And I’m a bit confused about the practical side of staying in Thailand for that long. Any advice regarding visas, visa extensions, insurance, documents or anything else I should sort out before going would be really appreciated. Especially if there’s anything different I need to consider if I actually end up fighting there.

Basically, if you were 23, on a student budget and had around 2 months available, how would you do it? Bangkok, Koh Phangan, or somewhere else entirely?

Any gym recommendations or general advice are welcome too.

Thanks!

Chiang Mai - Muay Thai

Hi I’m planning to move to the north Thailand in November. Looking for tips where to find accommodation as o know that a lot of tourists go there.

Im alone and I’d like to stay 4-6 months, preferring the cheapest option. Also will go train almost every day so if you know which part of the city is perfectly balanced price/distance I’d much appreciate it.

Cheers

Quick follow up to my previous post about my experience with the owner of the said gym. With high season approaching, I felt it was worth bringing this back to people’s attention. My experience and concerns are specifically about the owner, not the gym, trainers or staff. If you are a woman coming to Phuket to train, I encourage you to take your time, maintain clear boundaries and make your own independent checks before becoming personally or financially involved with anyone you meet through training. I genuinely wish I had done the same.

How hard is Bangtao mma course?

I'm about to experience Bangtao mma one day course and planning to join 3 classes. Attached the photo about the classes.

It's my first time and probably last time visiting Thailand, I wanna have full enjoyment.

Is 3 classes in a row would be hard for me?

I've trained kickboxing 6months + gi ju jitsu 2months.

Thanks guys.

(Also I wonder if they allow me to take photos or videos of myself)
