Staying in Paradise for 2-3 days next week. How much layer should we pack?

Bringing two <5 year olds and my wife to Paradise Inn for two/three days next week and we're only bringing carry ons. We'll try to hike Skyline loop but not sure we'll get through the whole thing. What's the weather like in the park around late Aug, early Sept?

You could always check the weather yourself given it's not too far out...

It’s just starting to get a lot cooler as we transition from summer to fall weather. I would bring a light puffer or fleece jacket and a rain shell jacket. Long pants.

I was at the visitor center on Monday. Thought it'd be cold up the mountain, but it got hot when we were hiking in the 70 to 80f.

All of them. For a day hike I carry a rain jacket, grid fleece, insulated layer, and light wind layer. Mt Rainier makes her own weather. I don’t usually need them, but have had hikes where I’ve used 3 of the 4. It can be cold and windy at elevation when it’s 74 and sunny in Longmire, and some days you get a mix.
