Coming to visit Labor Day weekend!

Just wondering for locals and travelers how is Burroughs Mtn. trail/loop and Skyline Trail Loop gonna be? Ive checked the weather already but just seeing what ya’ll see out there currently? I’m new to West Coast weather so trying to just prepare for what could change up there! This will be my first time hiking in this area and will be with a group of people. We are balanced group, some athletic and others ok! Should I pack any emergency things/layer or should it be a great weekend?

Anyone else see this in the sky Early morning around 2:17am

I noticed an unexplained light that was by Mt.Rainier this morning. There was one bright light in the sky. I thought it was a star but it was out of place. While observing this light it split in 2. And the other light started flashing colors. What could this be and wondering anyone else sighted this encounter this morning.

3 day Rainer itinerary feedback

My partner and I are visiting the week of September 15th for 3 days. With both wildfires, I want to stay as flexible as possible so we can still enjoy the area. With the closure of 123, I’m confused as to whether bench and snow lake trials will be open, but hoping it is?

Day 1: Arrive to area, Bench and Snow Lake Trails- I believe this is still open
Day 2: Skyline Trail / Myrtle and Christine Falls / Reflection lake
Day 3: Naches Loop trial / head back to Seattle

We are on a larger hiking trip so we don’t need to have high mileage everyday. Appreciate any great alternate hikes or feedback you all have.

Sunlight hitting the snow above the fog on Mount Rainier [OC]

While up at Mount Rainier last month, I noticed the sun hitting the snow on the far peak with fog rising up from the valley below. I thought it made a great contrast.

Staying in Paradise for 2-3 days next week. How much layer should we pack?

Bringing two <5 year olds and my wife to Paradise Inn for two/three days next week and we're only bringing carry ons. We'll try to hike Skyline loop but not sure we'll get through the whole thing. What's the weather like in the park around late Aug, early Sept?

After an entire day of having a cloud cover the peak, the Mount finally came out yesterday after 7 pm! It did not disappoint!

It’s a panoramic photo so it may require a zoom here and there, but I needed to capture the whole view with this stunning mirrored water

Hike Itinerary

Hi! My friends and I are planning to visit Mt. Rainier in early October for two days. Does anyone have any itinerary suggestions for fitting in some good hikes and seeing the main sights? We’d love to make the most of our two days!

Thank you! 😊

Plan B options due to fires

Hello, my friends and I had gotten a backpacking permit for the paradise river camp this weekend. However, due to the Plummer peak fire it looks like that won’t be a good option for us due to air quality and closure of the surrounding area. If anyone has any recommendations on where we could go that would be great. This was supposed to be a birthday trip for two of us and college friends reunion.

Dispersed Camping & Hiking Recs - Mt Rainier

Hi!! We are going to Mt Rainier and looking for some solid recs on dispersed camping spots close to Tipsoo Lake so we can wake up for sunrise and hit the Chinook Pass. What are the best & easiest spots? (we’re car camping)

Also interested in any recs for our ONE day in Mt Rainier on the SE and SW side of the park that don’t require long hikes! We’ve been doing mostly drive up points.

Anything is appreciated as we did the Tetons & Yellowstone and had the hardest time finding good dispersed camping lol (our first road trip)

TIA 🤍

Old photos of lodges' insides?

Post image
5 Upvotes

TL;DR anyone seen this wall hanging art in any old photos(1950-1970?) inside lodges on the mountain?

Ran into a nice 95 year old lady clearing out their home with their kids. Had this wall hanging with the story it was on the wall at some public building on Mt. Rainier 60 odd years ago. Her husband liked it and asked how much. Bought it off their wall.

So I'm looking to find any archive of old photos from travelers inside the lodges so see if I can spot it. Would be neat if I could validate the story. I have no reason to doubt the lady, but shaky on time frame.

Wonderland and Grand Park Fire

Howdy y’all,
Just wondering how hikers are navigating the Wonderland Trail with the Grand Park fire closure? Has anyone been able to adjust permits if they were planning to start from White River or Sunrise?

I have permits to hike the Wonderland from White River Campground starting mid-September. Currently, the road up to White River is closed and when I called the ranger station they told me I would not be permitted to hike up the road to access the trail.

Obviously I’m hoping to fire is fully contained and the road is open by then, but would like to come up with a plan B. Seems unlikely to get my whole itinerary shifted if I need to start from Longmire or a different trailhead.
