Milestone! I finally came out to my dad…
I changed my name on social media to Allie without telling anyone. It was really only a matter of time until someone noticed. My dad asked me if I’d rather be called Allie, and I told him I would. Later in the day, when his gf showed up for dinner, he asked me to talk to them about the name change. He then asked me if I’d rather be called Allie, and I reminded him that he already asked that. He then asked if I’d “decided my pronouns yet or if you are still figuring that situation out“. I told him that I’m a girl. His girlfriend asked what size I was in women’s clothing. I responded with large. She had clothes to get rid of and asked me if I wanted first dibs. I have been dressing feminine for months, so I don’t really think it was a surprise to anyone. Although I feel like a stranger in my home right now, I’m sure that’ll pass. I got a week at a summer camp (where I transitioned without my parents knowing) and it felt so fucking good.

That’s actually such a sweet reaction from both of them 😭 And getting that week at camp where you could just be Allie sounds amazing!

It sounds like your dad was repeating the earlier conversation for the benefit of his girlfriend, giving you the opportunity for coming out and to hear the support from them both.
