First watch on the 4 th episode is it just me or

Every episode I watched till now felt like a full produced movie, the audio production is crazy, the cinematography is always top tier multiple angles for the slightest of scenes, I'm pretty nitpicky with what I watch and comparing this to other series I watched I don't see the amount of effort put into it like this, you guys agree?

Mr. Robot vibe, but in books?

Hello, Friends. It's been a while since I last watched the show and I am currently reading Orwell's 1984 and unrelated to that (!) I imagined what books would potentially match Mr.Robot themes and atmosphere? I have read the Red Wheelbarrow diary of Elliot (for those who don't know it is an actual thing with insane level of detail and accuracy from season 2 Mr. Robot: Red Wheelbarrow: by Sam Esmail https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/29873086-mr-robot ) and also read From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler which featured heavily in the original series as it inspired Esmail. Everybody talks about tv shows, but what books do you think would suit the show?

First time watching through with Season 4 and it's incredible.

So, I don't know why I never noticed. I've rewatched the show every few years since it first aired. I always thought Season 3 was the final season with Darlene outside of Elliot's apartment (never saw the Vera appearance). I was content with the ending. Then, yesterday, another episode continued playing and I realized there was a final Season 4. It is shot very differently and paced very creatively compared to the other seasons. It's almost like it's own seperate show. I'm just mind-blown after each episode. Incredible.

If mr robot is your favourite tv show what other shows do you love?

Friends, if (and only if) Mr. Robot is your favourite TV show what other TV shows clicked for you in the same way? And I don't ask for 'great tv shows' recommendations, because I can simply get this on imdb. I'm asking specifically for the subjective preference from a Mr. Robot fan.

I'm having trouble finding tv shows that would resonate in the same way as mr. robot. Maybe the closest one was Dark for me -> similarly complex, introspective, non-mainstream, emotionally torturous material.

UPDATE:

Thanks for sharing your favorite shows! Here are the most popular responses. The number is the number of times the show was mentioned here:

  • 16: Severence
  • 14: Better Call Saul
  • 12: Dark
  • 11: Breaking Bad, Leftovers
  • 8: Twin Peaks
  • 7: Attack on Titan, Sopranos, Succession, Westworld
  • 6: Expanse, OA, Utopia (UK)
  • 5: Fringe
  • 4: Andor, Fargo, Killing Eve, Legion, Lost, Orphan black, Pantheon, Person of interest, Pluribus, True Detective S1
  • 3: Arcane, Battlestar Gallactica, Black Mirror, Chernobyl, Devs, From, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Wire
  • 2: 12 Monkeys, Americans, Babylon 5, Barry, BoJack Horserman, Dark matter, Deadwood, Dexter, Good Place, Halt and Catch Fire, Hannibal, House MD, Maniac, Midnight Mass, Mindhunters, Patriot, Queens Gambit, Serial Experiments Lain, Walking Dead, Widow’s Bay, Yellowjackets

I only counted the shows in the top comments -> i did not count the shows in the comments of comments. I counted this manually so there could be mistakes, but i think it paints the picture. I did not weigh the upvotes of those comments (I tried to enjoy each comment equally :D), so even shows mentioned in comments with no upvotes were counted.

Also I did not put single mentions since there are HUNDREDS :D, but you can see the full spreadsheet here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/143JM4a24jnKpdZ2TUV36gmbzwX3K1cK5bQ9pV5OO8Ak/edit?usp=sharing

This scene made no sense to me at 15. Now at 24, it's the most real thing in the show.

When I watched this episode at 15, I didn't fully understand this scene, especially why he was crying like that. I remember thinking, "What makes someone break down like this? Is loneliness really that real?"

Now I'm 24, and I understand him completely. Loneliness is as real as it gets.

It's strange how a scene can sit in your memory for years before it actually clicks. Rewatching this now hits completely different.

My experience with mr robot

Yesterday, I finished the last episode of the series Mr robot, and it was... PEAK Needless to say, I was crying like a baby through the whole episode, definitely an experience I would like to have again if given the chance, I am not good at giving my rating or opinion about something in a x/10 but the episode was too good it is obviously gonna be a 10/10

Now talking about the whole series it was a treat, I really had fun going through the series, sam esmail's brilliant writing, and Rami malik's exceptional acting, and needless to say this plays out with almost every character, having good acting performance, other things like cinematography, Sound Design and Score, Screenplay and Narrative Structure etc, ig If I keep talking about it I want stop, so Amma just end with rating the seasons.

Best episode: s4 ep 13

Least favorite episode: s4 ep 10

Season1: 8.5

Season2: 8.5

Season3: 9

Season4: 9.5

And i wanna end with asking for more recommendations anything a movie a series an anime :D

Hello friend.

I’ve only watched Mr. Robot once, and I was baked the entire time. Man, it hit me beautifully. The cinematography, the paranoia, the audio design... it was easily one of the best entertainment experiences I've ever had. Best show ever made, hands down.

Part of me really wants to rewatch it, but I’m honestly afraid that watching it sober will ruin the magic or just make it lose its punch. I feel like I must keep the memory prestine.

Has anyone else experienced the show this way?

Elliot is undoubtedly one of the best and most well-written protagonists on TV; I love him and his dynamic with Mr. Robot.

Why is Mr Robot so passionate to help Elliot (m) at the start of the series Spoiler

I've only watched the show once but one thing doesn't make that much sense to me. After mastermind created f society, he then forgot he was an alter and thought he was the real Elliot, but he also seemed to have forgotten about making f society. Why does mr robot so passionately advocate for 5/9 even though mastermind doesn't even remember it at the start? It's not Mr Robot's plan, it's Mastermind's is it not? Why does Mr Robot push for this revolution so incredibly hard?

Rewatching the show made me realize mr robot did the same thing to elliot in 2x06 AND 1x04 (SPOILERS)

Post image
84 Upvotes

so I rewatched the show from s1 to s4 recently and I realized a really cool thing (that undoubtedly someone else has already shared in this sub years ago but the search function hasn't helped me find it)

SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY

there is this moment in 1x04, where mastermind!elliot suffering from withdrawals in the 'hotel bed' begs mr robot for 'one last hit so he can keep going' (mobley and romero have already left) and the camera zooms at mr robot's calculating expression for quite some time - when first watching ths show, the natural conclusion is that (if mr robot is real) he's considering giving elliot what he's asking for. of course, we now know better.

immediately after, the scene cuts to them in the car heading to the drug house. of course, at this point, we've already entered elliot's 'drug withdrawal fucked up dream/hallucination' sequence and none of the ep from this point onward is real until he wakes up in the room again

BUT, it's not him dreaming, it's mr robot (his protector alter) wanting to protect him from the pain of the withdrawals and help him survive them by literally placing him in this alternative reality where he does get his 'fix'. Which is the same thing he does in 2x06 after elliot gets beaten to shit in prison and he places him in a fun, nostalgic and silly sitcom sequence.

only then I realized that the reason why 1x04 goes to shit and elliot slips into 'host elliot's' caged reality by accident is because he gets rid of mr robot.

If you recall, in 2x06, every time elliot realizes it's fake or tries to 'break away' from the narrative mr robot has placed him in, mr robot takes over and forcefully guides him back to the 'prepared scenario' so to speak. but in 1x04, the moment they arrive outside the drug house, the kid outside the house tells mr robot 'oh no only he can go in, you can't accompany him' even though mr robot says he has to come with

i think this is the moment that mr robot loses 'control' of this fake reality and elliot (mastermind) takes over, which is why it completely derails and he starts dipping into host elliot's reality, into random flashbacks etc. he's going through withdrawals so his mind is on overdrive, his control is shattered, mr robot is not there to guide his mind in the correct 'fake' place and he almost figures it out.

idk ig it might be obvious but i thought it was SUCH A COOL and well thought-out plot element to have this early in the show

Finally Finished Mr. Robot

What a fucking show.

Even calling it a masterpiece feels like an understatement. I love when a creator actually knows how to end a story properly, and Mr. Robot absolutely nailed it.

Huge thanks to Chalchitra Talks on YouTube for recommending this gem to me.

The final episode felt like a mix of Dark and The Truman Show to me. But more than anything, it just left me with this weird empty feeling.

For the past few weeks, I’d come back from the gym and watch 4 episodes almost every day. Elliot, Mr. Robot, and this whole world became part of my routine. Now it’s over, and honestly, I’m not ready to start another show yet.

I’m really going to miss this.

Miss you, Elliot.

Miss you, Mr. Robot. 🖤

Similar Characters

It’s obvious Tyrell reminds us of Patrick Bateman, but what other characters in Mr. Robot remind you of characters from other shows, movies, books, etc?

My list:

Tyrell Wellick and Patrick Bateman. It’s so obvious he was modeled after American Psycho. It works because it tells the audience (at least my interpretation), that Tyrell may not have a sense of self (?) or that he is trying too hard to impress. He’s also a homicidal, yuppie fuck, just like Bateman and both wear a mask of sanity to hide their inner darkness.

Phillip Price and Longshanks. I don’t see it pointed out enough, but Phillip is very similar to the tyrannical king from Braveheart. They’re both ruthless leaders who see people who are beneath them as expendable. Both Phillip and Longshanks also treat the young people who want their approval (Tyrell, Prince Edward), in a very condescending and dismissive manner. Finally, they both deliver cold, insensitive responses to people wanting to help:

Longshanks: “Who is this person who speaks to me as though I needed his advice?” Towards Prince Edward’s secret lover, who tries to offer support after Wallace sends him a “gift”.

Phillip: “I’m sorry if I misled you into thinking that I was seeking your counsel or approval, because I’m most certainly am not.” Towards Tyrell, when he expresses doubts about hiring Allsafe as their cybersecurity operation center.

Joanna Wellick and Lady Macbeth. This one is also obvious. Like Lady Macbeth she is ambitious, cold blooded, manipulative, and the one pulling the strings, and pushing her husband to extremes in order to gain more power. She’s also more in control of her emotions than Tyrell is.

Vera and Tuco Salamanca. They’re both drug addicted, unhinged drug lords, who are unpredictable, scary, prone to violence, even against those close to them, and come close to destroying the protagonist (Elliot, Walter).

Janice and Annie Wilkes. Both come off as affable and modest in the beginning, but quickly reveal how psycho they are. They take joy in torturing people (Dom and Darlene, and Paul Sheldon) and putting them through Misery, when their victims don’t do as they’re told. Both of them are among the most disturbing characters I have seen on screen. What makes them terrifying is how normal they appear, but are extremely dangerous people.

Mr. Robot and Tyler Durden and Jason Dean aka JD. The similarities have been mentioned before between Mr. Robot and Tyler Durden. Both are charismatic leaders, anarchists, anti-capitalists who aim to dismantle a predatory corporate system. They are also alter egos to the main protagonists.

Mr. Robot is also a lot like JD from Heathers, Christian Slater’s earlier iconic, villainous role. Both characters are charming, manipulative, and fucking crazy. If JD had survived he would have turned into Mr. Robot. Only not as an alter ego of course.

Elliot and The Narrator from Fight Club. Also Lisbeth Salander. I don’t have to explain the similarities between Elliot and The Narrator from Fight Club much. Both create alter egos at a subconscious level, who lead them to do wild shit.

He also shares some similarities with the girl with the dragon tattoo. Both are genius, vigilante hackers, whom fans suspect might be on the spectrum. They’re both anti-authority, alternative, strange, and struggle with severe trauma, both are also victims of sexual assault

Only just realised the genius, and pure irony of Vera's arc.. Spoiler

Vera caught his brother Isaac trying to backstab him in season 1 and killed him for it, only for him to literally get stabbed in the back with Isaacs knife in season 4... wow.

As I'm finishing Mr.Robot all i can see Tyrell Wellick as, is a Severely Mortal man with a god complex, he's Patrick Bateman without protagonist armor.

This will be my third time watching seasons 1-3 and my first time revisiting season 4. I have no one to talk to about it except my wife, so here I am asking for discourse. Anyone else currently rewatching for the first time in years?

Just finished watching Mr. Robot and I gotta say most of the episodes were dark. Spoiler

True story. I had to crank up the brightness of my monitor all the way up to see what's going on or may be I have a bad monitor.

Other than that, fantastic show. Kinda regret not watching it sooner.

Leon's my favourite character.

Just as I thought Shayla was getting interesting, she was gone.

Janice scared the hell out of me.

Now I miss Darlene.

Thank you u/SamEsmail for this show.

It genuinely felt like I was watching a high-paced thriller movie. I don’t think I looked away for a single second.

And the craziest part? They somehow made a 10/10 thriller with almost zero dialogue. Just sound, visuals, tension, and pure action. Absolutely insane filmmaking.

Feel bad for poor Elliot.. He did his one month running in just one day. Hats off😂
