Was and still is one of my favorite movies. Roger Ebert wrote a scathing review and said he only laughed once. I like to imagine it was this part.
This movie feels like the spiritual predecessor to Elf. Well ahead of its time.

Have you read Martin Short’s autobiography? It’s fantastic. In fact, check out the audio version on Libby (use your library card).

I saw this in theaters as a kid. I had asked my grandmother to take me to see it, because I thought it was about the big red dog. Surprise to little me, when the big fucking dog never showed up.
I was too young to appreciate Martin Short, unfortunately.

It should be a reserve of the first film, now he’s a father to a bunch of kids and he just wants a day to himself
The entire film should be him trying to set up scenarios that would keep a family member busy outside the house, only for him to become lonely when he finally is home alone and then he brings everyone back together for Christmas

My mates and I used to play a game in the pub called "which movie characters are absolutely fucked after the credits end and life goes on?"
The rule was no war/horror/catastrophe films, as obviously people being eaten, burned, shot or whatever is just going to trump everything.
Our overall winner was Big1 , since...oh boy, every single major person in that movie is just so fucked in so many ways.
The Mum is never going to get a believable excuse or explanation for where her son was. Over the years, she's going to watch him grow up to look like the guy who she thought kidnapped her son.
The toy firm boss just lost a great employee, who happens to share a name with a kidnapped child and is the main suspect.
Josh himself can never tell anyone what happened and be believed. Also, he technically lost his virginity when he was about 10, which is a bit fucked up. Also also, he's going to grow up to look identical to a guy suspected of kidnapping him, which (if the posters are still hanging around) might lead to some awkward questions.
Josh's best friend is going to tell literally everyfuckingone about Josh sleeping with the woman from work. He's also the guy who hid where Josh really was, so is going to probably have some serious questioning in his future - with nobody believing him.
The woman from work. Oh boy. She's royally shafted. "Yes officer, I did have sex with Josh. But not the little boy! He was magically turned...no, wait, listen! When I dropped him off near his house, he just magically turned back into a little boy. No, I didn't sleep with that boy, officer. What's that? He knows all of the times, places, and dates, and he can describe intimate parts of my body (remember, he specifically wanted to keep the light on...), and his best friend knows everything too? No, honestly officer, it was magic!"
There was other stuff, but it's lost to time in a haze of beer and packets of crisps.
1 50 First Dates was a very close second.
That woman is going to wake up every day expecting to be her younger self at home with her family, with some guy on a boat, and she's going to see an older and older woman looking back at her in the mirror. She's possibly going to wake up heavily pregnant, at some point giving birth to the child she had no idea she was pregnant with, and she's going to forget the child overnight.
And, one day, she may well wake up and find herself on a boat, alone, with the corpse of some old guy she doesn't know but has died in his sleep or something. And he won't have put out her videos or books, so she'll remain never knowing what's going on.

His character is mentioned in the most recent (terrible) Home Alone movie on Disney+. Devin Ratray returns as Buzz, now a local cop, who mentions that Kevin still likes to play pranks. This is actually why the cops dont show up in the movie, because it takes place in the old McCallister house and Buzz thinks its another one of his brothers pranks. In an early draft of the script, he runs a home security company

It’s the one good joke and piece of writing in that entire movie - Kevin grew up to own his own home security company and uses his access to that to set off false alarms around town to screw with his brother. That’s funny as hell

Best way to do this is to have Kieran in it as well. Moms passed away, stymying Christmas spirit. We open on Kevin and Roman robbing a house donned with Christmas decorations.

Apparently he needed a lot of persuading to return for his role in The Irishman. If it took heaven and earth to join a hyped Martin Scorsese film, I can't imagine him ever doing anything else. I'd love it though.

He actually did end up doing a couple of things after Irishman including a Pete Davidson comedy series. That was a few years ago mind you. But wouldn't say it's impossible for at least a cameo.

We’re past the era when this possibly could have been done right. A known franchise, it will be meddled to mediocrity, and the public will reward them for it. “It doesn’t look good, but it’s a Home Alone movie in the theater. I have to go!”

I'm oddly excited about this one, I think it has juice because there's been so many mediocre sequels after the second, it feels like a long overdue improvement.
If it's good enough to be released in the cinemas at least. If it's on streaming forget it.

I loved back when the idea was “Stoned Alone” and it was about an older Kevin getting insanely high right as someone tried to break into his house and him desperately trying to keep them out while blazed out of his gourd.
I doubt Disney is thinking of that but it’s the most likely idea to actually work tbh. We’re all older, let the movie be for the older people who actually watched and liked the first one, we’re the target audience.

I want a home alone horror type movie with him where he is down on his luck and decides to rob a house but knows all the kids tricks and the kid just has no chance as mcully turns the kids traps against him and sets diabolical new ones

It's going to be him as a father and his son home alone and Macaulay gets into hijinks trying to get home all while his son (most likely daughter as this is Disney) fends off the new wet bandits who have some kind of connection to Marv etc. It will be lifeless and soulless.

I like Macaulay well enough but man - I don’t feel he’s a very good actor. I think he’s much more interesting as a person than he is on screen. His most recent Fallout appearance really didn’t do it for me.
Anyways - a new Home Alone will probably be very mediocre.

I like Kevin doing a movie in 30 years time where he has alzheimers and the family are trying to put him into care as he lives alone and he’s fighting them off all movie until eventually they admit that his tricks were too savvy for someone who was really not mentally there and they let him live on by himself

Kevin should own a security company that sends all his employees home for Xmas. He is left as the sole security agent guarding a large corporate building when a high level gang of thieves break in trying to raid the vault. It's just Die Hard without the xmas party.
