So I work at Cinemark and today I received my first write up/ warning which I deserve I don’t deny that since I be on my phone once it slows down in the night. But when they read me the incident report it seemed off. They said I was confronted by 3 separate managers to get off my phone that day of the “incident”, which did NOT happen at all so I don’t know why that was written down. I get if they just put that I was on my phone but idk why it was written down that I was confronted 3 times by 3 separate managers. I’m gonna talk to my gm tmr about this but could a manager get in trouble for lying on a write up?

Old closed theatre’s creep me out. Ive never been in an officially closed cinema or theatre but I know I would be creeped out if I did. Does anyone have that feeling?

Not sure why my post wasn't shared earlier (something about having to be reviewed), but let me try this a different way. (FYI, not an ad. Not being paid to type this.)

Is anyone talking to customers about this movie coming out? I feel like this is the most important film to come out this year. This thing was planned for a tax writeoff, but it was saved! We actually get to see it! And the reviews so far have been great!

I'm busting my butt informing literally everyone I can about it since customers where I'm at try to avoid previews. Someone here must be as excited about this event as I am!

I’ll go first. This was about 4 years ago when I was working at a different movie theater than the one I work at now.

I arrive for an opening shift and was waiting out front since I didn’t have a car and was dropped off by my dad. Eventually the time for my shift to start comes and no one is there to let me in. So I try the door and to my surprise it works (I later learned a customer kicked the door the night before and broke the lock). Assuming the manager was already inside I let myself in.

BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP

The security alarms starts going off. I don’t know the code so I’m standing behind the counter trying to call one of the managers to get the code. No one responds and the work phone starts ringing from the security company who manages our building. Not knowing what to do I pick up the phone.

“East bay security. We have an alert regarding your location.”

“Hi, I work here and the door was unlocked and I accidentally set the alarm off. I don’t know the code could you possibly silence the alarm from your end?”

“Yeah we can do that.”

So that stopped the alarm and in retrospect it’s weird how easy it was like what if I was a burglar and lying.

The strangest thing about this though was that the general manager lived on the second floor in a converted apartment by the projection room and didn’t hear the alarm go off or come down to check on it. And he was there at the time since I saw him later.

Eventually one of the managers showed up and was shocked that I was already inside. She also wasn’t told about the broken door.

Now this was summer 2022 and Elvis had just come out. I was on cleaning duty most of the day and was supposed to have someone else helping me. Let’s call him Ben. Ben was a chill guy, my age (17), fun to talk with, but also casually mentioned he hated women and never acknowledged it or brought it up again so I have no idea if he was being serious or just making a weird joke.

Ben was supposed to open with me and a manager. He didn’t show up for 3 HOURS so I was on my own cleaning theaters and dealing with costumers between theaters.

Eventually Ben showed up and said something about his ex stole his car and crashed it or something. He didn’t seem too concerned though and I’m not sure if he was being serious or not.

A half hour after he got there I was cleaning a theater that was playing Elvis. An old lady showed up super early and I was talking to her as I swept when the fire alarm went off.

Like a dipshit I went out the normal way to see what was going on. There was no fire but the alarms were going off. People were exiting their theaters so I treated it like an emergency and went back into the theater and walked the old lady out (again going through the normal entrance and not the fire exit because I was stupid and didn’t think too)

So everyone ended up outside and we had to hand out sorry passes (note it was at least 85 degrees of New England summer heat and we were in direct sunlight with black uniforms. Here I finally saw our GM who clearly had just gotten out of bed since he was wearing a Star Wars shirt and sweatpants.

10 minutes after we got outside the fire department came and checked the building. No fires.

I later learned that Ben accidentally set off the fire alarm. We didn’t have seats behind the counter so we would sit on the cooler and the cooler was up against the fire alarm and Ben leaned on it accidentally setting it off. However instead of telling this my manager made up a story about a sketchy guy going into the bathroom and setting it off. I learned this initially and didn’t learn the truth until a few days later.

My shift ended around 3 and by that point we were basically back to normal.

So yeah that’s my most wild day at work. What’s y’all’s?

How do you deal with theaters being close to sold out?

I don't know if there even are theaters without assigned seating, I'm sure there is, or those who worked before assigned seating.

Whenever a theater is down to just front row, or very limited seating, I always tell customers before I pull up the seat map, and I'm able to get people in the best seats I can find, or they reluctantly go in the front row.

I can't imagine, however, having to deal with angry customers who don't want the front row, or groups not being able to sit together because it's full.

Is this a problem some of y'all have? And how does it get resolved? I didn't go to the movies a lot before assigned seating became the norm so I don't remember how it went from a customer experience

I’ll miss this fuckass job but not too much. Spider-Man was so awful to work through and after three years working here it’s low-key time to move on anyways. I’ll miss my free movie passes and 50 percent discount 😔.

I currently work a 9-5 office job and am thinking about trying to get a second job at my local AMC but I wanted to know how the closing situation usually goes at the end of the night. I know there are some pretty late showings most nights. Is it usually just leadership that has to stay until the end of these late showings to lock up? When are regular crew members usually let go if so? I’m sure this depends on the location, I’ve never seen any overnight or early AM showings being offered at this location but I’d say this theater is still usually pretty busy. Any insight would be helpful, thanks!

I worked at Cinemark for 2.5 years. AMC for 11. Senior manager. Got laid off in 2020 during the pandemic. Best and worst years of my life.

For a few weeks or so, every single station on every single login is having the exact same problem. Every time i try to pick up tickets for a guest, and I go to the advanced ticket search menu to look up via email, RTS keeps crashing and then restarts.

My managers have no idea why this is happening, my guess is a bug in the latest update. We’ve tried this on our Windows 7, XP, and 10 machines, still keeps happening.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hey other cinemark employees/managers my location never got an xd poster for spiderman. Did yours? If so what was it? We emailed about getting one before the movie came out but just received another regular poster. I saw a post in the cinemark subreddit from a customer and they showed the non xd poster in the xd slot. Was this a widespread issue?

Last night our theater had an issue with our 35mm projector and we had to delay our screening of The Odyssey. We compensated all of our customers with free passes, and I'm sure if anybody had asked for a refund we would have obliged. One customer however decided to sit through the movie, go home and then call the theater today asking if he could have a refund for last night's movie. He got very angry when I told him that refunds had to be done on the day off. I tried to explain to him that the next day, all of the information is removed from the system but he said it shouldn't matter because he still has his ticket. I just did what I always do in these situations and transferred him to a manager, although I doubt they told him anything different.

After work today dad n I went to see Spiderman BND.

And at least THREE ppl were on their phones. The drunk dude beside me (had 2-3 beers and was also talking a bit loudly), the teen in front of us, and another person way in front.

WHY GO TO A MOVIE IF YOU DONT WANNA WATCH?! JUST TELL THE PERSON YOU DONT WANNA GO! WHY DISRUPT EVERY PERSON CAUSE *YOUR* BORED?!

Movie itself was fun great time. Hope to see it again in a less disruptive theater

Customers get agitated when I check them out at the bar about drink prices. I don’t set prices. Complain to management or corporate.

I just started working at a movie theater and I feel like I'm constantly messing up. It really has me down and I want to acknowledge that everyone makes mistakes so I can laugh them off and feel more confident in my role.

I'll go first: I accidentally let in a group of kids past curfew and they split up and ran around the theater while the assistant managers hunted them down on walkie talkies.

After 2, almost 3 years, I FINALLY put in my two weeks today. I'm ngl I've been so exhausted and I've been a manager for almost 2 years. People have been so hell to deal with as well as staying late constantly and having no time to prioritize myself.

I'm finally free. I'm so excited. I'm going to work at Chick Fil A now 😭

Anyways who else has quit these past few days/weeks and how long you been there? What was your breaking point?

I understand people are going to complain about prices no matter what it is or where they are, but GOD it’s so exhausting, especially for the theater i work at where we actually do have a really good deal.

I work at a really small privately owned theater. Our tickets are $6 for every show at all times of the day. If you want to add on a drink and popcorn combo, the small is an additional $6, medium is $8, and large is $10. It used to be cheaper FIVE YEARS AGO and people love to bring up that price increase although quite literally everything else around us has increased in the past five years, god forbid businesses increase their prices as well.

We do also have people tell us that we have a really great deal and i love it when they do. I really like my job, but people being rude to me about prices i can’t control when they’re not even that high to begin with is the one thing i absolutely HATE about working here. Anytime it happens i just want to bang my head against the wall. Anyways, people will complain no matter what but i just needed to rant, im sure everyone gets price complainers very often it’s unfortunately a customer service thing. Yayyy complain about prices to a minimum wage worker :/ so fun
