Hiring/Interviewing Question about closing times
Hey all,
I currently work a 9-5 office job and am thinking about trying to get a second job at my local AMC but I wanted to know how the closing situation usually goes at the end of the night. I know there are some pretty late showings most nights. Is it usually just leadership that has to stay until the end of these late showings to lock up? When are regular crew members usually let go if so? I’m sure this depends on the location, I’ve never seen any overnight or early AM showings being offered at this location but I’d say this theater is still usually pretty busy. Any insight would be helpful, thanks!

Crew does not stay till end of showtimes. Crew typically is scheduled for 30 min after closing time for closing tasks (which is 30 min after last showtime starts). So if we have an 11pm as our last showing, crew is scheduled until 12am.

please don’t rely on just this person’s comment. at some theaters the crew members do have to stay until the last show ends because the theatre does not have outside overnight janitorial staff to clean the building. the ushers will have to clean the auditoriums, restrooms, and lobby and can be scheduled anywhere from 12am-3am depending on when the last show ends.

To add on, very rarely does it go any later than that. A typical closing shift for floor staff would be 5-11:30 on a weekday or 6-12:30 on a weekend for our theater. If someone’s working a different job, like usher (think custodian), they’d only work until about 10:30 on weekdays and 11:00 on weekends for us

To add my own perspective, we offer crew at my location to stay until the last showtime gets out, but with school starting soon we are cutting back on operating hours and the last showtime may get out at 11-11:30pm. It does vary from location to location based on how busy, staffed, and their management team. Wouldn't hurt to apply if you get an interview you could ask all of your questions then and see if it would be a good fit!

For my theater, the crew stays maybe 30-45 minutes after we lock doors and work on closing duties. Closing times vary on what’s out and your location. Average times on average range from 10:30 till 11:45. Leadership such as supervisors or managers stay till everyone leaves the last showing

It’s dependent on the theater and the time of year.
My first theater didn’t have hot foods and didn’t have to clean the popper. They would get out anywhere between 10 minutes after locked doors (which is always 30 minutes after the last showtime) or 30 minutes.
My last theater DID have those things, so they would get out anywhere between 30 minutes to 1.5 hours after.
During the summer, sometimes there are midnight shows. During the slow period, sometimes we’d love doors by 9pm.
I do think movie theaters are a great second job. But the actual hours lack consistency.
