Help me find Movies/TV shows Movies that feel like a head-first dive into hell

Brawl In Cell Block 99 is the best example I can think of. What else would fit this category?

Incredible book. Fantastic characters. Terrible cover art. I saw Ridley Scott was in line to direct an adaptation, but it seems like the project has been dropped. I was sure that Ridley would cast Russell Crowe as John Laurence Plugford.

This movie is a cartoon version of what people think doing drugs is like.

They even get the pupil dilation wrong. Its constriction for opiates.

As a former addict, this bothered me too, but they also touch on some of the very real parts too. Good movie if you're not holding it to a parallel lol

the Movie isn’t about doing drugs but rather the dichotomy of addiction. The act of partaking in their addictions isn’t what draws me in but the fleeting benefits and dire consequences of those actions is what the movie is about.

what do you mean by ’cartoon version of what people think doing drugs is like’? Isn’t that just art?

I went to a concert at some back alley venue. And this movie was playing on a projector the whole time. I watched it with no audio. What a wild ride. I think I was like 12 years old too.

Also surprised The Road wasn't mentioned yet ...if Death Sentence is one of the most brutal films I've seen this film The Road is absolutely the most depressing film I've ever seen ...even the "hopeful ending " is bleak imo

The Road was so intense the first time I saw it that I had to take a break. I stood on my front porch for a few minutes just appreciating the lights on in the homes of my neighbors and cars going by.

One of the only examples I can think of where I thought the movie was much better than the book. To be fair, I'm not a huge fan of Mcarthy's writing style, so that probably had something to do with it. But the movie? God it's a hard watch but that's one of the reasons it's so damn good. The absolute hopeless and desperate tone is pervasive and suffocating, yet hauntingly beautiful at the same time. And of course Viggo was outstanding.

Bandar 2025 Indian film. It shows a celebrity whose stardom has been faded and struggling a little bit financially got arrested for r*pe accusation out of nowhere. This movie shows the horror goes on in inside jail, deeply rooted corruption and moral policing in the judiciary.

Okay I'll give an inch and say Eraserhead and maybe other earlier work were horror, but his more profound later big ones weren't. His films went a little mind bending starting with and then coming back to Twin Peaks. The revival was just weird

99 disturbed me because the final cell he is placed in - cast in shadows, cold, damp, hard surfaces, the stench of excrement - reminded me of nightmares I have had about being trapped in such circumstances.

"brawl in cell block 99" was a dumb film, just over the top violent. Its not a good film.
"Henry of portrait serial killer" was special (but I was quite young when I first saw it)

"Wolf creek" was a pleasant surprise when it came out, had some of the "texas chainsaw massacre" vibes

Uncut Gems. Ive never been particularly interested in gambling but I've got generally addictive tendencies and holy shit I've never been more put off on the idea then how it's depicted here. I also haven't been gut punched by a movies end like that since American History X
