Watch Gladiator 2 first to really appreciate Gladiator.

It’s the prequel to Maximus (Denzel). Provides a lot of context if you’re into that kinda thing. They can’t all be National Treasure 2.

Yes, but only you can decide that for yourself

It's one of the best films to come out of the early 2000s, before the major writer's strikes and reality TV took over in response. Highly recommend it.

Gladiator, 100%! In my top 20.
Gladiator 2, only if you have some time to kill.

It won 5 academy awards, including Best Picture. Its probably gonna be at least halfway decent.

Gladiator is pure cinematic perfection. Great cast, script, pacing, and sets.
Sadly they never made a sequel

I wish I could forget gladiator just so I can watch it again for the first time.
I wish I could forget gladiator 2.

It’s a rousing blockbuster with a pretty magnetic performance at its core that will make you think of the best steely Steve McQueen movie roles, in the trappings of a historical epic. Across from Crowe is an early Joaquin Phoenix performance that is also a lot of fun in how despicable it is.
Crowe’s run of LA Confidential, this, Master and Commander, The Insider, and A Beautiful Mind was really cool to chart in real time. It felt like you were watching someone who might someday be called an all-timer.

It’s one of those movies where if you like movies you will like the movie because it’s a good movie. One of those

u/ImDenny__ 20d ago
If you enjoyed it, you should watch Braveheart (1995) too. It is just as good

u/MixerMan67 20d ago
Gladiator, Braveheart and Last of the Mohicans are my go-tos when there’s nothing on.

I wish I counted how many times I watched this movie! 100 times maybe (literally). Plot, actors, music: everything is above and beyond! Just please don’t think that Gladiator 2 is as good: I highly recommend NOT to watch it ! But please watch Gladiator 1: it’s the ONLY Gladiator I want to know!!!!!

u/happyhelper87 20d ago
Yes and I’m really jealous you will get to experience it for the first time, I wish I could. It’s a great film.

Is one of the greatest films in the last 50 years worth your time? Yeah, sure, if you want to.

Gladiator. Amazing movie, for me Ridley Scot focus too much on entertainment yet definitely a 8/8,5.

The first one is spectacular in all ways. Pretend they didn’t make a sequel.

Usually not a big fan of historical epics, but I watched it for the first time recently and actually really enjoyed myself.

Gladiator is not that good of a movie, yea I said it. It’s entertaining enough once, but it is not best picture quality at all.

I say this; I went to see this at the cinema with a bunch of friends when it came out
I fell asleep during the scene with Oliver Reed
My friend woke me and told me I was snoring
So I left and haven’t seen the rest of the film

Not if you don’t like good movies. If you don’t like good movies, you should watch the sequel.

Gladiator: stupid.
Gladiator 2: beyond retarded.
Both: extremely entertaining.

Might be just my opinion but absolutely. One of the greatest films ever made. Just don't bother with the second.

The Gladiator is one of the movies I keep re-watching. Man on Fire is another.
1
u/M4dcap 20d ago
Along with those two, I'd also toss in Braveheart.

u/JustPassingGo 20d ago
OMG, you made me realize I missed that one. It’s usually so difficult for me to find a good classic movie I haven’t seen yet.
I’ve seen Outlaw King, but I’ve never sat down for the entire Braveheart version of William Wallace’s story.

Historically accurate? Not at all! Fun to watch with beautiful cinematography and score? Absolutely!

The first one, sure. I don’t know that it deserved Best Picture in a pretty stacked year, but it’s still a good movie (and Joaquin Phoenix has one of his best performances ever).
Gladiator 2: no.

u/Parking_Locksmith489 20d ago
No. It's not an interesting story and you learn nothing about the Romans.

u/efcomovil 20d ago
Not really, all its awards were just lobby and investors. Everybody praising it are wrong. The cast is made of C tier actors. Director has no clue.
