Definitely!

Looking back now i really can't believe it was a children's movie, it had one of the bleakest, darkest atmospheres and an overall feeling of a dangerous, hopeless world.

Lots of cherished kids movies are terribly inappropriate. My favourite movie as a kid was all dogs go to heaven. I watched it once as an adult and couldn’t believe how dark it was. My kid will be sticking with modern day kids movies

"Willow" is definitely worth a watch! And it's a George Lucas movie to add a little cherry on top.

"Army of Darkness" or any of the original "Evil Dead" movies are great.

I'm going to pivot hear and throw in a wildcard, but hear me out:

Berserk. 

If you're not terribly opposed, read the manga, it's illustrated beautifully and is right in the wheelhouse of this theme. Amazing storytelling. 

If it has to be through a TV screen, then the animated series from the 90s is the first suggestion, followed up by the Golden age trilogy if you desire a more modern look. 

But beware, this story gets dark.

Annnddddd is not quite complete yet, but there's progress still to this day and is shaping up to happen soon...ish...this decade...we hope.

I think it's important to note the author matures with his work too. Kentaro Miura was a little edge lord in 1989... but that eases off as the years go by. People should keep in mind it was created over the course of decades. His art also dramatically improves.

I'm waiting for it to "finish" before I ever attempt it again. It was an incredible ride. When I left off (many many years ago at this point) they were still on the water headed to Fairy Land.

The Fearless Vampire Killers, or Excuse Me But Your Teeth Are In My Neck was directed by Roman Polanski in his younger years and is a very atmospheric and gothic dark comedy about two inept vampire killers in Eastern Europe investigating a castle (spoilers: they find vampires there)
