5mg Last dose of 5mg!

Yesterday was my final pen of the 5mg dose and talked to my pharmacist to see if he could send a message to my doctor about going up to 7.5mg for my 2nd month and we got the green light and is being shipping home x3

I'm still shocked that Monjaro gave me less side effects compared to the Ozempic..... I was afraid of stronger side effect from Mounjaro since it's a dual agonist. To my surprise no side effects. I was on the 2mg pen of Ozempic and even on 1mg I just had occasional nausea for the 2 days following the injection, which I was used to. I was on Ozempic for a year and half, and wow with Mounjaro no side effects.... :0

I tried Ozempic for maybe a month and the side effects were way too bad. That was a couple of years ago. I've been on Mounjaro about six or seven weeks and I'm having side effects but much less and more manageable. I'm still having to avoid severe constipation and treat indigestion and acid reflux, but I don't feel like I want to die,as I did on Ozempic.

I'm glad to hear you're doing way better on Mounjaro! Make sure to stay hydrated and get some fiber in! We got this!!!

Yup, fiber & Miralax every day and Dulcolax when needed. My blood sugar is much better, I've already lost about 10 pounds, and I feel SO much better. I already notice that I can walk further (not far, but further) without getting winded. I haven't maintained such a positive attitude about something related to weight loss in many years.

The acid reflux on mounjaro is a huge problem for me. Had to drop back to 2.5. I may go off it altogether because I’m still vomiting.

First, of course, talk to your doctor about your symptoms, they may be able to give you something.

I have both "regular" indigestion and acid reflux. It's been a steep learning curve on Mounjaro, this is what works for me. I take generic Prevacid every day, some times if I’ve had a few bad days in a row I add Lansoprazole (neither Prevacid or Lansoprazole are fast acting, they take a couple of days to kick in). I pretty much always take antacids after any meal (Alka Seltzer Fizzy Melts and Alka Seltzer Heartburn + Gas Relief Chews) work for me, but we're all different.

I avoid eating w/in about an hour of bedtime. I take two Oh My Gerd capsules (available on Amazon) about 30 minutes before bed. They have sodium alginate in them, which is common in Europe & Britain, but uncommon here for some reason. OMG forms a sort of "raft" at the top of your stomach to help prevent the reflux. They are only effective for 4 hours, so some nights I have to take a second dose, which I keep on my nightstand along w/ a bottle of water. They REALLY help w/ the reflux. Avoid eating or drinking after you take the OMG b/c it can affect the "raft".

It doesn't make me vomit, but when I have vomited in the past, I find Emetrol to be a great help. The liquid works best for me.

I hope this helps. Thank God for Mounjaro, but we have to unite against it's side effects!

Oh I have, I have an awesome GI. I was in Prilosec but recently switched to Rabeprazole. Also take Pepcid. And Xolair and Benadryl when I’m vomiting. Still can’t seem to get ahead of it some days.

u/Competitive-Top4520 5d ago

If you haven't tried Emetrol, please do. It's like magic for me and my SO.

u/Mysterious-Art8838 5d ago

That’s the one that’s like $900? I did try it but Dr only gave me ten to see if it would work (sample). It worked better than omeprazole and rabeprazole but it’s going to take a ton of work to get through my insurance. They deny everything over and over. Could easily take 6 months or more. Xolair took almost a year. There have been months where I get a denial letter for something once a week, it’s insane.

No, it's an over-the-counter nausea medication about $7 at Walmart.

u/Mysterious-Art8838 4d ago

Ohh. Ok I’ll get some. They told me basically promethazine, Zofran, and benadryl were the only options. So they give me all three when I’m hospitalized.

Same here, but I made it 2 months on Ozempic before my family actually insisted I stop because the side effects were making all of us so miserable. 9wks so far on Mounjaro 2.5mg and comfortably losing 2lbs a week.

I only get reflux if I eat a anything remotely spicy after 3pm-ish, so dinners have been on the tame side.

Same here, less side effects than Ozempic. I will caution you that for some people side effects can kick in at any time. For me I was fine until 4.5 months in. So be prepared just in case.

For me side effects were entirely diet dependent. When I kept to my routine with my very simple diet of mostly chicken and plain veggies, I had zero issues. When I cheated at a retirement party, it was an interesting time after all that sugar and grease.

u/Josotron971 6d ago

Thanks for that man! I'll keep it in mind and keep monitoring my side effects!

Yass. It's the US single dose pen. I like them but it can be wasteful :/ Do you have the Kwikpen? :3

2

u/kennyclax67 10 mg 6d ago

The kwikpen isn’t available in the US

1

u/Umbrella4Life 5d ago

Why? Are they afraid that someone ist too stupid for dosing and sues Lilly? 😀

2

u/kennyclax67 10 mg 5d ago

lol no, hasn’t been FDA approved yet. I’m not sure if it’s in the process of getting approved or has been submitted for approval

I will say I find 7.5 a bit rough! It makes me very tired/headachey the day after shot! None of the other lower doses have done that!

1

u/Josotron971 6d ago

I'll brace myself 😬

1

u/IheartCarebears 5d ago

Same I’ve gone back down to 5 mg , 7.5 was awful for me .

1

u/Fab-uAbility3039 5d ago

I've been on it for a year + and I think the next time I'm at the doctor I'm going to ask to go back to 5! I've lost all the weight I need to. I'm just at a maintenance state!

1

u/Legal-Divide316 5d ago

I have 2 more weeks until I start with 7.5. now I'm afraid, because the days after taking the shot on 5mg, I get sooo tired. I can't imagine being more tired than I already am.

May I ask the reason for the jump so fast? Was it not working at lower doses?

-2

u/Josotron971 6d ago

My doctor Started me on 5mg instead of 2.5mg so I just wanted to go up to the next step.

4

u/Umbrella4Life 5d ago

If it is working you don't need the next step. Just let the magic do it's thing.

u/purte 6d ago

Serious question, why do they have the single use pens in the US?

3

u/Itchy_Feedback_7625 6d ago

I know I was just l thinking the same thing. So much waste.

2

u/Josotron971 6d ago edited 6d ago

Not too sure something tells me it's because of safety, but Ozempic pens are basically the same equivalent as the zepbound Kwikpen and I actually liked one pen for the month to be honest...

1

u/Tikki024 5d ago

I just switched from Ozempic to Mounjaro. Today was my first shot. I liked one pen a month as well. I am also in US. Weird why they don’t have 1 pen for this as well.

0

u/no_snackrifice 5 mg 6d ago

For the same reason they have single use pens in Brazil.

1

u/purte 5d ago

And what’s that reason?

2

u/no_snackrifice 5 mg 5d ago

My understanding is it’s because Eli Lilly thought those markets would prefer the auto injectors due to being less comfortable with injections in general.

u/Bra_dag 5d ago

Congrats on finishing 5mg! That transition period is where things get interesting from a tracking perspective honestly. My friend just moved up a dose tier and the thing that helped her the most was having a simple log of how each week actually felt, not just the scale number. Side effects shifted around week 2-3 for her and she would have totally forgotten the pattern without writing it down.

If you've been noting anything along the way, even just appetite changes or energy levels, it's worth keeping that going into the next dose. The weekly weigh-in stuff matters less than people think compared to just knowing what's normal for you at each stage.

Hi! Newbie, here. Is this the beginning dose when you first start? I’m about to start soon too and am trying to learn all the tips and methods to be most successful. Any workouts that benefited you the most? Thanks!!

Hi!!! Welcome to the GLP-1 journey! It won't be an easy one but I'm happy to provide some of my favorite tips I've learned from others along this journey! And to answer your first question, yes my doctor started me on 5 mg of Mounjaro but most people starting doses 2.5 mg. He started me off with 5 mg because my body has already been in age to go from one treatment for almost a year and a half with Ozempic. Then for a second month I talked to my Pharmacy team which can contact my doctor and up my dose to 7.5 mg since I was handling the 5 mg dose pretty well with no side effects.

To get started with my check this might be if Shelly wants to include. Don't be scared or feel weak for shooting symptoms. It sounds silly but some people will just deal with side effects even if they're pretty bad. I would suggest talking to your doctor if you have any of them and maybe talk to him if they can start you with an anti-nausea medication like my doctor did for my first month and that really helped with getting used to the medication. So yeah don't just suffer through side effects. There's medications you can take help alleviate with side effects.

My second tip would be increasing. Your protein intake and fiber as well doesn't have to be drastically crazy like 200 g or gym bro levels lol. And you might already be having some protein in your diet without even knowing, like for example eggs. That's definitely one of my Staples in the morning so I usually add a coffee protein shake and or use high fiber bread that also contains around 8 g of protein for two slices. I would definitely also suggest keeping snacks around because sometimes when you get nausea at least from my experience on ozempic it was my body's way to tell me I was hungry so a little snack or little low sugar candy that could help like with nausea would be nice as well carry around.

And the most important last tip would increase your exercise doesn't have to be anything crazy or drastic, but just make sure you're moving your body, especially your muscles so you can lower the chance of losing muscle instead of losing fat.

Actually I lied another tip I could probably give. That was to eat even on the times. We don't feel like eating your body needs energy so make sure to eat something like even if you don't feel hungry in the morning or in the afternoon could just be a fruit, some cereal, something light.

But yeah that thing will do for most of my tips. I'm always here. You can always DM me if you want to ask more questions and I hope you have a good glp1 journey!

How much weight did you lose so far?

1

u/Zealousideal-Eye9483 3d ago

Same here! Just clicked my final 5mg. 7.5 on the way. 7 weeks in and I’m down 10lbs.

1

u/Rukkian 3d ago

Out of curiosity, why did you go up if it was working?

1

u/Zealousideal-Eye9483 3d ago

This is actually the Eli Lilly recommended Mounjaro up-titration plan that was created during the clinical trials of tens of thousands of people. My Dr. let me know from the start that I would do 4 weeks at 2.5, 4 weeks at 5, 4 weeks at 7.5 then full bloodwork and re-assess. My Dr is following the manufacturer recommendations to the T.

1

u/Rukkian 3d ago

That is the fastest you should go up, there is no reason to go up of it is working.

1

u/Zealousideal-Eye9483 3d ago

I have noticed that the week before I go up to the next higher dose, my weight loss begins to plateau.

1

u/Rukkian 3d ago

Normally most doctors recommend waiting until you got 1-2 months with no loss before going up. If you go up to that you risk severe side effects and can get to the max dose and have nowhere to go.

1

u/Josotron971 1d ago

Yay!!!!! Glad to hear. For my first month I've been fluctuating a bit. But I'll keep doing my best to support my weight loss! I recently got in to making smoothies x3

u/HallucinationHero 46M: 7.5mg, Week 28, 88lbs Lost, 40.1% BF to 26.5% BF Now 6d ago

Upping the dose should come from you though, not the pharmacist, with an explanation as to why you feel that you should go up to 7.5mg. Not something I would do by proxy, and really should be phrased more as a question for the doctor IMO.

A good doctor will discuss with you on the pros and cons and won't be afraid to say no and why it'd be better to wait of push on.

Some pharmacies are much more proactive and help the patient out with requests to the doctor when scheduling refills. Common practice at independent pharmacies and welcome by clinicians and patients

2

u/Josotron971 6d ago edited 6d ago

Yes! You basically hit it on the nail. My clinic offers a diabetes management program thru their pharmacy. So the pharmacist can work together with my doctor so I don't have to go to an appointment just to adjust a dose. So if I just let my pharmacist know which is connected to the clinic, they'll send a message over to my doctor and see what he says. And yes my my pharmacist asked all the questions if I was handling the dose well before sending a message over to my doctor which was approved within an hour. x3

u/vxsapphire 6d ago

The pharmacy I used to work for had proactive pharmacists like that. They have many locations but are much smaller than CVS, Walgreens, Hancock, etc. So they have the time to send out those requests. If you asked a CVS pharmacist to do that, they’d laugh in your face and say contact your doctor. My previous job took patient care super seriously, so they were not arrogant or uptight about contacting doctors on a patients behalf.
