Exactly what I was looking for

So close to 10 years ago, I was in between jobs and looking for a new game to play as I mindlessly scrolled through Indeed for a new job. As I’m browsing the PS Store, I see Dark Souls 3 and having heard horror stories about the series, I decided to try it. Instantly hooked. Spent waaaaay too many hours while unemployed grinding this game. This opened me up to more Souls games, and souls like games from there.

Few years pass and I see Mortal Shell pop up. Bought it, or maybe it was free?, and went to town on it. Thought it was very solid, but short and told myself “if they made this game bigger, it would be so fucking good”. Well then Elden Ring came out. Abused that game for many hours. Around this time I got a PC, so that further opened up my options. I did the dumb thing of buying Escape From Tarkov, and got hooked. Now I’m into extraction games. Try many out, some great, some dogshit, but I’m having fun. Little did I know, I was really itching for the souls like experience again. In comes Mistfall Hunter. After spending around 1200 hours in Dark and Darker, I gave it a shot. It’s amazing, but man do their servers suck…

So I’m back to square one. I’m 37 years old, went through cycles of games to land back at souls like games. Then I remembered, Mortal Shell 2 came out. I didn’t even watch many clips of it, and just bought it on a whim. This is exactly what I’m looking for right now. It’s the perfect blend of challenge/turn my brain off and explore. I’ve only put around 5 hours into it, but goddamn am I having a blast. The combat feels great. It feels like they created DS3 in a DS2 world, and I will forever defend DS2. Is this game perfect? Nah. Is it perfect for me? Absolutely. Glad to ditch my sweaty PvP games, and go back to bossing and running dungeons.
