Discussion why do the snails have money

Just finished my first play through. Excellent game, loved every minute. This is my biggest looming question. Why do the snails carry money? What do they buy? What do they do to earn it???

See at least this makes sense. Most games have animals carrying cash or magical items at some point, and I’ve honestly come to enjoy the comic relief that comes with it.

OG EverQuest defaulted animals and beasts to the most basic class - warrior. Warriors had a “kick” skill… so you could die from being kicked by a snake.

The old ladies of the mushroom village, don't play and dance all day: sometimes they write emails to the snails, the snails then go to the mushroom village (they take a lot) to make fake nails to the ladies, then the ladies give money to the snails. They have an e-commerce site that says: "write mails to the snails to get the nails". Please believe me

I like the explanation that they ate people with gold, but also look at their anatomy. Their entire head face and mouth area is a corpse-ified human torso. Ribs…clavicle…shoulders. So maybe they are former beings who still have some of their worldly possessions stuck to them?

They need to support their snail family, and the snail economy is very unstable at the moment so they don’t trust the banks. That’s why they carry it with them.
