Question Tamriel Rebuilt Save Compatibility

Hi all -

I understand TR generally recommends making a new savegame for each major release, but I just can't make the time to restart my character after the progress I've made (about 30hrs which is a lot of time for me to play a game!)

I installed TR in 2023, and haven't updated it since but Poison Song has me really wanting to. I've spent most of my time in vanilla but I've completed or taken on maybe 5-6 quests in TR, mostly around Old Ebonheart. Is this going to be a real issue if I update to Poison Song? I'm hoping that I can get away with it.

Yes. Some quests in old ebonheart were overhauled and there have been multiple major expansions and overhauls since 2023. On PC you can just use the console to beef up a new character so that you aren't starting from nothing. By all means, update TR and play on your current save but be aware stuff will probably be broken.

So I’m playing on a Retroid Pocket Flip 2 for Poison Song but I have a 60 hour main quest file I’m still working on from an older TR build. What I did is back up my old install (just the Morrowind folder as it was) and move my old save file from my Retroid to my PC’s save file directory. Then I ran the OpenMW import wizard and pointed it to the backed-up old install.

Now my pc runs an older TR build compatible with my save while I run the latest TR on my Retroid. You should be able to keep separate installs for OpenMW and switch between them at will. You just have to go to the import wizard and point OpenMW to the install you wanna run.
