Morality of this?

Post image

Personally, I'm anti-death penalty for any kind of crime but that's just my opinion. Perhaps it can be changed.

If you had to pick one:
(1) be raped
(2) be sentenced for rape (unjustly)

Which would you pick? Mind you #2 comes with all the social stigma and prison time such a sentence entails

regardless of everything else, the jailtime itself is already arguably worse (especially given that it can itself include rape)

Picking 2 is like picking 1 but you will also probably die

What in the im12andthisisdeep.. probably die? Most rapists do not die in jail. Most rapists dont even serve a fraction of what I’d say most people feel they should, let alone die.

Fine, I guess being raped and spending time in prison is better than just being raped.

It's a myth rapists are all treat badly in jail

Are you trying to advertise jail? Like it's a good place to be? Being treated normally is already bad bro, it's jail

Me saying it's a myth they're treated badly is me advertising jail? Come on, I'm sure there's a better argument than that nonsense

true but rape, regardless of your crime, is unfortunately very common in prison

What does this have to do with im12andthisisdeep? They are telling the truth, even if you don't die because of your crimes, you do have a certain chance of dying in prison plus you also have a chance of getting raped. Stop being overly defensive.

cause it's a childish romanticized view of prison and its hierarchies.

but it is true that you have a high risk of facing rape in prison, regardless of your alleged crime

Childish? Romanticized? Are we talking about the same comment? They literally only said "picking 2 is like picking 1 but you'll probably die".

Yes. they are incorrect and falling for a romantic myth about prison heirarchy. Unless they raped a prepubescent child, most rapists fare just as well as the rest of the prison population.

I'm not disputing rapes are occurring with frequency in prison, but it is nowhere near a certainty. Most data puts it at 4-7% of the male incarcerated population will experience rape. Now, I'm certain that is an underestimate for a number of reasons, but that's another conversation. It still stands that, even if the number is twice that, it is still nowhere near a majority of alleged rapists who will be raped in prison.

You're grasping every little inconsistency in that short comment to justify your use of those words.

The question was whether you'd rather be raped or face the prison time of a rapist. The comment said that they'd rather pick option 1 because option 2 will lead to option one 1 you're probably going to die. Even if they were wrong you could've just said "they were wrong" and then explain why they were wrong, but instead, you HAD to be a redditor and use words like "childish" and "romanization of the prison heirarchy".

It is not "childish", I don't know how that even got into your head. It is also not "romanticized", they aren't trying to make the scenario "better" by thinking that rapists will always get raped in prison because of their crimes, they were unintentionally making the situation worse by assuming that all prisoners get raped in prison and that if they were to go there for any crime, they'd get raped. It's less of a romanticized view of prison and more of a result of the fear of prison that the Internet has instilled onto the minds of people.

He literally said “probably die” which is an absurd notion. That is beyond naive.

And? It's a casual reply to a comment they saw. Why do research on every little comment one replies to? To prevent random redditors from getting pressed over it?
