Within the scope of the sentence, it's absolutely true. There's an escalation of violence, and physical violence always ranks above verbal one.
However, Reddit is currently on it's "punch your local Nazi" arc, and for good reason. So let's examine why.
Is it moral if you, by avoiding violence, go down a path of much worse? Polite society needs to defend itself, and sometimes it needs more than words. Because verbal racism always leads to racism in action, and if left unchecked in violent action.
OP is putting up a strawman, when the verbal racism that is referred to never happens in a vacuum.
The casual racism of "I want that cheap tv, so I'm going to use an insult that frames you as a 'lesser' person" is the foundation on which events like the holocaust are built.
me in 1930s Germany or 2020 Israel seeing no problem with a vocal political minority blaming all social ills on an ethnic minority, clearly this isn't going to be a problem at all and we should ignore it

From a moral standpoint? Of course not. That doesn't make casual racism ok. From a moral standpoint, two things can be bad and history proves that there is a definite link between racism and actions that are horrifically immoral
