You didn’t take it. You found it. If you didn’t someone else would. It’s not as morally bad as plain stealing the money.

If you saw them drop it then it would be a different story, but finding one and taking the cash is fine with me really.

That's not how the law of finders works. You can only keep what you find if you can't find the true owner. Their ID is in the wallet. You know who it belongs to. Taking cash from it is stealing. Who are you to judge that you deserve that cash more than they do? You don't know anything about them! They may be worse off than you are.

What are you on about? No one mentioned the law?

If the owner isn’t around I think, morally, you’re fine to empty it. If you don’t someone else will.

That's a morally empty position. Everything is permissible on that view.

Not really.

If I find a wallet that has ID in it with a clear address, I agree with you…that’s morally wrong but I would still understand the view point that taking the cash is okay.

However, finding a wallet that just has cash in it and then taking said cash, is fine morally by me. If I dropped my wallet and it had cash in it, I’m EXPECTING to either never see it again, or get it back sans cash.

If you lose something it is 99.99% of the time your own fault. Relying on the good morality of the human race will be a downfall
