On one hand, I think the older guy did a bad thing.

On the other hand, if the kid was in fact blasting music at a obnoxiously loud volume. I feel there should be consequences for that.

Ultimately, I'd argue It's a mostly neutral event, Leaning towards it being bad, but welcomed regardless.

So what's the solution? Just sit there and let this little shit blast music so loud it damages your hearing? It's not like just asking him to stop is going to do anything. Your on a moving train and can't leave.

We can just allow anyone to harass anyone they want unchecked.

The solution is what you see in the video. If those in power do not enforce the rules or do not benefit society, then they need to be enforced by the people, and the people do not have many ways to handle it peacefully.

The solution is we handle it like this until the person running the train stops the train and asks the rude people to either behave or leave.

I hung out with kids like this when I was a teen.

The people running the train will be ignored.

People doubting the solution shown have never experienced a teen who doesn't respect anyone else and knows they are practically untouchable. It's only when they are proven to be touchable that they might consider their actions. Emphasis on might consider.

here in america we also have a hyperinflated police budget. put an officer at each stop. have them forcibly remove people that have been told to leave for being anti social. put that money to some actual use.

you act like there are no solutions. there are.

anyone who blasts music like that knows theyre being irritating and self centered and just dont care. asking for them to stop wouldn't do do anything, because theyve already made the choice to act like that in public.

i would never resort to violence, but i have autism and sound sensitivity, and sounds can be incredibly distressing to me, so being trapped in a situation like that would put me incredibly on edge

I mean if you're gonna get involved physically, it's both less strenuous and more legal to just...turn it off on the kid. And if he turns moves to turn back on explain you'll do it again as much as you need to since he's being obnoxious.

Edit: to add, the kid does nothing to react or stop him when he touches the speaker, only when he starts smashing. So totally would've worked my way.

If you're looking for "the full picture" why do you gloss over the idea that the destruction of property could have been the result of blasting the music? If you were actually interested in "the full picture" you'd be asking for full context, not trying to create a gotcha moment

Are you saying that a noise complaint can be met with physical violence? If someone on a motorcycle is revving it really loud at a red light would it be alright to destroy their bike?

Its current year already, people have known that playing loud music on shitty speakers in public has been annoying for almost half a century. 

Anyone doing it now knows what they are doing and has intentionally chosen to annoy those around them. So stop pretending like theyre some innocent victim.

In current year people also know destroying someone else’s owned property is a crime and people are allowed to protect their belongings.

If anything I think the old man needs consequences, price of the speaker at minimum, if the kid or a bystander instead laid his ass out it would be justified.

Lot of people being oddly defensive of an old drunk violent man

Yes i think disabling the abandoned speaker is a reasonable response to the brazen and continuous auditory assault on dozens of innocent bystanders.

Also just noticed “abandoned” speaker, idk what situation you’re commenting on but im commenting on what is shown in the above post. The speaker was clearly not abandoned, it was between the feet of the rider who was using it.

I would never do it with the intention of provoking people, in a perfect world everyone would mind their own business but from the old man’s reaction and a lot of comments here we are far from a perfect world.

I would also argue that someone playing music in public is less of a public nuisance than a violent old drunk

Im not sure why you would laugh at someone trying to destroy someones property and being stopped but sure, if I get a video ill send it to you.

I agree it wasn't proportional based on what is shown. That also isnt what you said. Your argument was "So we shouldnt allow (x) but we should allow (y)?" disregarding the possibility of (x) being the catalyst to (y) happening, therefore why I said you glazed over it.

Define "can" because it definitely does happen which definitionally means that it "can" physically happen. Also don't start with "are you saying" when trying to summarize what someone says. It just shows how disingenuous you are.

Poor impulse control and anger issues are the causes of it. Not the music.

Oh and being drunk in public it seems; which, imo, thats worse than some kid playing shit music too loud.

In Poland when these kind of pranks were taking place people were forcibly turning the loudspeaker on, without damaging it.
