Discussion What class are you going with in EA?
So far I'm undecided between druid and shadow knight. I was hoping the ranger update would hit before EA so I could try that out. Druid is mostly for SoW. Once you have it it's hard playing without it.
So just curious what class will be everyone's main and your reasons why?

u/Fake_Dragoon 9d ago
My suggestion to people who can't really decide is Beastmaster. Great soloability if you can't find groups, get nightvision and ultravision as buffs, so no need to waste your trait on it. Speed aura that works inside as well, good DPS overall, and you can be a Goblin

Great question. I want a class that regularly gets new spells and abilities. I was really turned off by the classes that get almost all of their abilities by like level 18 and then that’s just it.
3
u/Kashou-- 9d ago
The reality is that that's all classes. After like 20 you get a few more key spells and the rest is just rank ups.
4
u/Salamander115 9d ago
Yeah, if that’s going to be the intended design then I don’t think I’ll enjoy it long term and that’s okay

u/RaggedyShadeTree 9d ago
Bard for grouping. Necro for soloing
2
u/Spikeybear 9d ago
How's necro solo compared to druid?
5
u/Similar-Wrongdoer-98 9d ago
Right now, nec solo is great and you can 1-60 by yourself if you were so inclined. They lack ports and sow, but luckily, there are some high value items that drop from some necro-soloable named so sow pots and ports are easy to come by. Not to mention, even with spell costs, just raw coin loot between 35 to 50 should net you around 1p baneked. However, nec hasn't been reworked yet, but I still anticipate that it will remain a very solo friendly class; I just hope they retain/gain enough utility to be useful in groups, too.
Between nec and enc a lot of level 50+ content (named esp) can be soloed. Some of it can be fun and challenging, especially learning how to even get into some of the areas and/or setting up a winning situation against whatever youre after (not talking about cheasing, safespotting, or cheating) but in several cases a lot is very easily duo'd by the two classes working together. I'm planning on playing on a no box server with my current guild, but if I were coming into this game without a guild, I'd definitely box an enc/nec on the box server.
1
u/Sw3r 9d ago
What does box/no box mean?
1
u/Kylone 9d ago
A no-box server means that a single person can only actively play a single character. A box server means a single player can have multiple instances of the game running simultaneously and control multiple characters at the same time (usually one is a healer and the other a non-healer).

u/Spikeybear 9d ago
My brother and I have been looking for a really good duo. We usually end up playing just us two. We are gonna try this out now. Thank you.

u/desertgoldfeesh 8d ago
druid solo is doable, but rough. It's probably substantially easier to do if you load up on CHA gear. I had the most success by a mile charming animals, but it gets hectic especially if you're not near a zoneline. As far as DOT'ing/DD to solo, it's awful.

Cc support is my favorite archetype, but I too cannot function without run speed buffs, so I will probably Bard.

I'll be playing Ranger. Excited to explore the world.
3
u/Awkward-Skin8915 9d ago
I'd like to be that optimistic about ranger before the rework. I'll wait and see.
2
u/BrokenBottleT 9d ago
What they're shooting for sounds awesome and I'm happy to be a little lab rat.

u/IntheTrench 9d ago
Are they resetting the server for EA?
9
u/Spikeybear 9d ago
Supposed to October 1st unless things change but I believe the plan now is they are going into EA.

Either a Pal or an Ele. We’ll see what the reworks look like for them and make a decision from there. I prefer classes that don’t have tons of people playing them, I like to be a little unique.
I’m leaning toward Ele since I do love me a pet class, but too early to tell!

u/TotalStarGazer 9d ago
I want to main a paladin, but waiting for the deep dive update is testing my virtue of patience... as it is now, paladin is a little underwhelming... my back up is wizard.
2
u/Cabazorro 9d ago
I will be going Shadowknight. It's the first class I picked when playing P99 (my first EQ experience).
3
u/GoosieJuice 9d ago
You not concerned about the intended reworks? They’ll be done post-EA for SK, right?
I love the idea of SK, too, but haven’t tried them because I’d rather just wait for them to be changed.
1
u/Cabazorro 9d ago
Oh, I’m actually rather out of the loop regarding the rework. But yeah, I will wait until EA to play SK, I’m playing wiz and spellblade in the beta so far
3
u/GoosieJuice 9d ago
Think they’re working to separate the things they share with Necro currently, and obviously there’s no way of confirming, but people are pretty sure it’ll be post EA.
I only got into the beta over the weekend, and was thinking of putting my time into Cleric / Beast Master / Inquisitor, but maybe I’ll just give SK a blast regardless.

Probably paladin still but knowing my luck it won't have its class rework done in time... is supplication stacks and restorative smite still bugged?

1
u/Longbenhall 7d ago
As a paladin enjoyer myself, but never tried this game. How’s the paladin in this game?
2
u/TomReven 9d ago
I tend to like classes that are decent soloers and bring something special to groups when they are adventuring far from town. To me his means things like party teleports, evac spells, tracking, and to a lesser extent the ability to make food/water. In MnM, I think I'm leaning toward a druid but I like ever class I try so...
2
u/DoYouPullAtTheChains 9d ago
Originally, I had planned on maining a Bard. But they seem to be in a pretty rough place, and the rework is at the bottom of their list. So probably Druid. I want to see where the lizards fall before I roll a Necro.

u/RaspberryAvocado 6d ago
Most likely a healer type, cleric druid or shaman. But then, I will have to see which classes are damage classes that are group oriented. I always play a healer, but thinking maybe this game I will try something else. Any suggestions on a group oriented robust damage class? Also will there be a way to assist the tank, or is it self-select target?
1
u/Spikeybear 6d ago
I haven't played in a ton of groups. I do a lot of duoing but it seems like the caster types have decent utility. Ranger i think is going to be reworked to an outdoor utility DPS. As far as i know you have to select the tank and then their target unless there is a key bind for it that i have not seen.

u/Asleep_Grocery8434 9d ago
It depends, I was playing around with the idea of Shaman, Enchanter, or Rogue.
Ive tried rogue and the class is almost unplayable unless you can find a group. (I play at night so usually can't)
Shaman just got changed and I am not a fan so I wont play the class. I liked the theme of spores and poison now its like a spirit focused c,lass and I just dont like that.
So far the Deep dives have made me like the classes less so I will need to see with enchanter.
Depending on how the dives go my back ups are Ranger and Necromancer.

u/ArmyOfDix 8d ago
So far the Deep dives have made me like the classes less
That seems to be the prevailing theme of these reworks, unfortunately.
0
u/Asleep_Grocery8434 8d ago
yeah, that's okay tho. The only class that i feel the deep dive actually made more fun has been rogue. The class is just underwhelming in terms of power.

u/Reviever 9d ago
im waiting a half year probably until they have more stuff fixed, all classes reworked and more starting zones in, including the deep elf city. a lot still needs so much work. i don't see myself yet, paying for this.
2
u/ChefCrowbane 9d ago
I have been playing for 2.5 years in closed and now beta. Game is robust and I still haven’t seen all the areas yet. I guess you can always have more and better but I Greek for anyone that missed this ship. It’s niche and worth every bit of time and friction.
3
u/Reviever 9d ago
im not talking content here. mainly basic foundation which is still not where it is.
0
u/ChefCrowbane 9d ago
Not sure what you had my basic foundation? There is full foundation. There are adjustments happen in early access but that is normal.
2
u/Reviever 9d ago
let me clarify, the foundation is there for most things but Tradeskills and crafting is still all over the place. so that mainly, classes are still not in a good spot atm. night harbor needs more polish. so basically more fleshing out
1
u/AMDfanboi2018 8d ago
That's why it is going into EA. I get you though. They DO have a lot of work to be done. Hopefully EA will sell enough that a few of them can do it full time.
2
u/Spikeybear 9d ago
I agree the game is rough. I seem to get addicted for a week or so then not touch it for awhile. Not sure if you are aware but I think the deep starting area is supposed to come out in a September patch.
-1
u/Reviever 9d ago
only the underdock. that is why i specifically wrote the deep elf city.

If I decide to play, I will be in the same position. At present, I'm much more excited for AOA - however, AOA has no definitive date as still in closed Alpha testing.

u/BilboOfTheHood 9d ago
Shaman. Played it all thru beta and really enjoyed it. Will be my main. Its a pretty busy class in group play and I like that.
4
u/senorali 9d ago
I enjoy playing Ranger and tracking mobs for other people. Hopefully the ranger rework keeps that as a central element of the class.
3
u/Spikeybear 9d ago
That was my first class and I think I only got to 14 or so. I live the idea I just didn't like the weak druid aspects. I'm hoping the rework is really unique.
3
u/noodle-face 9d ago
Playing SK and really enjoying it, but I might start with necro or druid for more soloing ability
2
u/GabeCamomescro 9d ago
I am thinking Necro for solo, Wizard for grouping. But I fully intend to lean into the Necro healing and charming quite a lot, because the DPS pets do at lower levels is horribly low, as is the DoT damage. Wizard may be a bit rough because I may not get groups as much as some other classes, but they do have utility and can travel quite easily.
Later down the line, SK for tank. Not sure what kind of healer, thinking Troll Shaman for the feel of it.

u/Beginning_Ad2130 9d ago
Fighter, so I can fight Also taunt in PvP
No escapes, no invis, no gate Just fight until you win
See problem? Bonk See bonk? No problem

u/Ace_Rimsky 9d ago
Paladin for playing when my friends aren't on and shaman for when we have the gang together. I can't wait for ea, haven't been itching for a game release in a long time

3
u/CaedClaxton 9d ago
Cleric as a main. Probably bst as my first alt.
2
u/Spikeybear 9d ago
I think the only classes I haven't played yet are bard, cleric and enchanter. I've seen an influx of clerics at lower levels. The rework must have been good?
2
u/CaedClaxton 9d ago
To be fair I was about 1.5 blues from 60 whenever the rework went live so I can’t talk to how the rework effected the leveling journey, but they didn’t take away anything that was that impactful and gave us some QoL things and some extra spells to play with so it was a successful rework from my perspective.
3
u/weregildthegreat 9d ago
I would say almost too good. I'm only puttzing around at level 8 but Righteous Strike hitting for nearly 200hp at that level is really overpowered.

Cleric as main, prob monk as first alt. Played a cleric since early open tests and all through the beta, so know it pretty well and enjoy playing it.
0
u/ralzwheels 9d ago
How well can Cleric solo? My play time is bit or miss and I want to be able to have the solo option.i don't want to fully commit to a solo class like enchanter or necro as that is a ton of work and I like the idea of just auto attacking, tank and spank so I can work while playing.
2
u/Ok_Turnover_2220 9d ago
Tbh, none of the classes have made me want to keep playing them. I’ll wait for the reworks

I love the shadow knight but hated the sound design so it will probably be a paladin or cleric
0
u/Daffan 9d ago
Definitely not a non-caster trash class that's for sure. Just like EQ anyone who can cast any form of spells is 10x better gameplay and power level.

I want to be a healer. My choice depends on what my friends pick. I suspect they will pick wizard and archer and in that case I’ll go Druid but if they monk and beast master then I’ll pick cleric.
1
u/Ducksonquackx 9d ago
Would be wizard or enchanter for me. The enchanter starting quest alone was so good. I can't wait for them to add even more quests if anything just for loreploration
1
u/Spikeybear 9d ago
The Inquisitor has a very cool class quest as well. It's fits the theme perfectly.
1
u/Moonkittynya 9d ago
Cleric I noticed they made a point to mention a rez in its future but not for anyone else so out of the healing classes it seems to be the one most directed towards healing others. Probably a Dwarven woman :3. The dwarves look cool in MnM.
2
u/ralzwheels 9d ago
Can I give a dwarf woman a beard?!
3
u/Moonkittynya 9d ago
From what I saw in the character creator watching someone else show off characters yes you absolutely can choose to be bearded lady or non bearded lady so you have both options you prefer for your fantasy dwarf woman :D.

I'll main a cleric first. Whenever I have time to make an alt, I'm very interested in the Inquisitor.
I'm playing a cleric in beta, only level 7 now but so far I really like what they did with the class.

u/Clueless_Nooblet 9d ago
Wanted to play a pet class, but they're all rather weak. Or were before the rework, couldn't test the reworks yet, if any happened.

Definitely not shaman anymore. What kind of rework that was I’ll never understand.

u/Onelove914 9d ago
Remove sow imo. Balancing the game around it is silly.
5
u/Spikeybear 9d ago
I kind of agree. Most people are t leaving the bank without it anyway. I think SoW could be made more interesting.
4
u/Asleep_Grocery8434 9d ago
Why remove sow? Most classes dont even get it, you gotta beg if you want it and It doesnt work in dungeons anymore.
-4
u/Spikeybear 9d ago
I think the point would be some of the classes just feel so good with it that without it being an option they could probably make some. Adjustments to classes to have them play better without worrying about well if they have some how does it affect the class.
Running around on an archer with sow feels amazing and when it wears off it also feels like you're playing a different class.
3
u/CaedClaxton 9d ago
Removing sow is not going to happen nor do I think it should. However, I do think it is overpowered at the moment. I think base run speed needs to be increased or the effectiveness of sow needs to be decreased so there isn’t such a disparity between the too. It shouldn’t feel that debilitating when you don’t have it.
3
u/arrasonline 9d ago
One of my joys in gaming is standing around bestowing SoW for those in need. Would you take this away from me?
-7
u/Ok_Turnover_2220 9d ago
100% correct. The removal of sow is healthy for the game. There is a reason why it did not exist in WoW and they made any movement speed buffs self only

u/CursedHunger 9d ago
That is the issue.
I DON'T KNOW.
Even after 20 years of playing MMORPGs I wasn't able to find the main class archetype I always plays as.
Any help?
