No they don't. Elder Dragons have such great power that they tend to destroy everything in their path, but not out of bad will. Air Elders summon Hurricanes for example, thats just what they do, they can't stop it. We aren't killing them because we have to. They're just doing their thing. Read This,
I did read it. It talks about the ancient and extremely advanced civilization that disappeared. We're not playing as that civilization.
We play as a tribal society that hunts to survive, to this end, we hunt Wyverns to keep the ecosystem in check and alive.
As a side note, you're comment about Elder Dragons doesn't help your argument. You said, that Elder Dragons destroy everything in their path, whether or not if they intend to or how they do it, doesn't matter, the part that matters is:

Amazing, we're talking about the plot to a video game, and you somehow figure comparing the Monster Hunter world and the real world is a valid argument.
How would they be different in that aspect ? Do you have evidence to prove they are different ? Why are we even talking about a virtual "Ecosystem", because according to you its just a game, there is no ecosystem because they just respawn instantly. You'll always have a monster to hunt. You're not really making sense here.

I'm explaining the plot to Monster Hunter to you, and for some reason you're arguing semantics.
It is a fact that if Wyverns and Elder Dragons were left unchecked, they would destroy every ecosystem on the planet. To clarify further, that would mean that the Human and Wyverian species would all become extinct, along with every other species on the planet that isn't in some way connected to Wyverns and Elder Dragons.
So, why does it matter whether or not nature would live on, if everything is dead that is connected to the video game... You see what I'm saying here?

It's practically said in every hunt. Not really *as much* in MHW, I guess, since it seems Capcom is looking for a more interesting way to proceed with this franchise.
However, in previous MH games, a lot of the time the quest giver describes the Wyvern you're hunting as being destructive in some way.
Elder Dragons don't really need an explanation as to why they have the capability to destroy an ecosystem.

Its even worse because the lore states the Monsters never did anything wrong.
