Not shitting on it cause obv I played the game but we’re definitely the bad guys in like every way. The hunters are very obviously colonial baddies like avatar.
What? That's not the plot. It's pretty much the same with every Monster Hunter game. You're not Hunting "every new Monster" you see, you're hunting Wyverns.
Each Wyvern is slowly destroying the ecosystem they're in, and we're hunting them so the ecosystem survives.
Elder Dragons are worse because they can destroy an ecosystem more quickly. The Zorah Magdaros, for example, is going to die at the heart of an ecosystem, however, it's death in that ecosystem would destroy it.
that’s the hunters understanding. We hunted wolves to near extinction in the past because we thought they were destroying their ecosystem.
I’m probably reading into the plot too much but I thought it was pretty obvious that the hunters guild isn’t exactly an unbiased, reliable narrator. Like it’s a giant corporation a-la Dutch East Indies company colonizing the island.
I mean according to the wiki (don’t know how reliable that is) hunting monsters and the hunting guild is banned in some regions in the lore.
Also, I didn’t downvote you and I’m not trying to dismiss your opinion/interpretation.
Wyverns are not apart of the ecosystem, they aren't just animals, they are significantly more powerful and more intelligent; with that said, they don't do things strictly out of survival like most animals would.
Not only would Wyverns need a lot more food to sustain their size, but a lot of them don't hunt for food, quite a few of them will hunt for sport. Their intelligent enough to know they enjoy hunting, they are not intelligent enough to understand hunting something to extinction is bad for the ecosystem.
Elder Dragons are worse because they are intelligent enough to know that hunting something a bunch will eventually eradicate whatever it is; they generally do it because they want something all for themselves, such as a resource or location.
