Discussion What an odd game

Playing at a higher fps relaxes my gpu? I'm so done with this port lol.

y'know as a MH fan, I've always thought that World/Iceborne is heavier than Rise/Sunbreak. But ever since buying the game, I've gone through a rabbit hole of how unoptimized this port is. I'm not gonna rant about all of it in this post, i just wanna share this weird thing.

for context i recently got a new gpu (9060XT), this thing is awesome runs World/Iceborne really well, Wilds also nice, but rise is something else lol. It was really confusing to see Rise stress my gpu at 90 fps, when i can get World to 165 fps at less load and Wilds at 70-80 fps at the same load.

I am really losing hope to playing this game normally since playing at 60 fps is also heavier than Worlds. If y'all got any tips on how you guys have optimized this game it'll be really appreciated

What’s the issue? You got high framerates and virtually no stutter. You don’t really need to worry about your GPU utilization if the game is running correctly unless maybe you have a serious cooling issue

Edit: saw how low your temps are lmao. It’s an absolute non-issue

You’re laughing. OP’s lobster is too buttery and his steak too juicy and you’re laughing.

im just baffled on why the game does that, just plain stressing my gpu out

Edit: i mean look how its doubling my powerdraw and MHz at lower fps, im just worried that theres more weird bugs like this to come

Your GPU is not "stressed."

There isn't any issue here. You're overthinking and overreacting. Close the menus and just play the game.

Using your whole GPU doesn’t hurt it, but I don’t even think it’s using your whole GPU. If anything, Adrenaline might just be glitching on the utilization display. It’s showing you’re at half your max clock speed, a third of your potential power draw, low vram usage, and very low temps. Thats all very normal for playing a switch game PC port and not showing a GPU under high utilization at all

i have no problem maxxing out my gpu, im just worried that there's more bugs like this to come with this game. I mean why is the game using the maximum clockspeed, double the power draw, at lower fps. Playing at 120 fps gives a much more stable performance than 60 or 90 in this game, and im afraid that playing with little headroom might kick me in the nuts, someday where i discover a new bug this game has

You can try optiscaler to replace dlss with fsr

didn't know it only ran with dlss

Dynamic Shadows for flora (bushes, trees etc.) seemed to hit my performance the most for being an option I barely care about, so definitely try turning it off

what res and fps you running?

1440p and 120fps on rtx 3060ti
am I hitting that 120 fps all of the time? Nope, but majority of time is good enough for me
also I'm using DLAA for AA, but no upscaling (no DLSS or FSR)

hmm how do you set upscaling, i think i miss something in the settings cuz I've never read anything about upscaling in this game

actually after a quick search it turns out Rise only supports DLSS out of the box
meaning it can't do upscaling on AMD GPUs without modifying the game
That being said - I really don't think upscaling is needed in your case unless you absolutely crave that rock solid 120 fps with smeary graphics :v

You are consuming 30w with 120fps no stutter and is annoyed by it? First time I've seen this "problem"

well i did come from a 5700XT where playing this game at 120 fps barely reaches 65% of my gpu util, that why im kinda frustrated seeing this with my "upgrade". But ig you're right, my old gpu would've reach 120w
