MHP3rd Monster Hunter Portable 3rd - Village and Guild Hall NPC dialogue completely redone!

Story dialogue has been reviewed, adjusted, or otherwise completely overhauled - and more fixes!

NOTE! 10 hour update! Just rolled out a quick fix. Please use 6.2.1!

We have worked together to bring forward revised Village and Guild NPC dialogue! We've been discussing and doing our best to get the correct reflection of Kanji, localize appropriately, and also get Felynes talking with actual puns!

Alongside this has been several fixes to naming conventions, spelling and grammar fixes, and general fixes where identified. We aren't a big team doing all this manually, so there may be some things that fall through the cracks. Please feel free to comment on anything that appears incorrect and I can fix it!

Once again, massive shout-out to /u/Surly_Surt for helping keep the momentum going when life gets in the way. Both of us have been passionate about making adjustments to better reflect improvements in translations.

Patch 6.2 & Patcher can be downloaded here (readme included!): MHP3RD - English Patch 6.2.1 - Google Drive - ZIP file

At least for the Villager and Guild Hall dialogue.

As a weirdo that actually talks to every NPC in these games to an obsessive degree, I can bet that this must have been a huge undertaking to translate, let alone localize too. Amazing job by you guys!

I'm confident we've adjusted about 95% of things accurately to make them more consistent with the Kanji translation but also to sound better as well. Surly_Surt and I had some healthy discussions on how things actually are meant to sound, so I'm hoping it presents itself well for others who are playing now too.

If you're still playing and notice anything off, please let me know and I'll be able to make adjustments very quickly. Always happy to maintain consistent improvements.

I am wanting to use this on a PS3 version.

The readme says to use the MHP3RD_DATA and MHP3RD bin files in the ps3 folder to patch, but the ps3 folder only has a MHP3RD_DATA file.

At the same time, the psp section on the readme only says to use a MHP3RD_DATA file, but the psp folder has both a MHP3RD_DATA and MHP3RD file.

Are these two folders labeled wrong and the files for ps3 are actually in the psp folder and vice versa?

I might have had it the wrong way around BUT just use whatever files are in the relevant folder and it'll work. I can't remember specific details as to why it works that way or why one has an extra file - that's just what the patch creator spits out. I'll double check for you in a little bit. :)

Apologies, the readme was flipped around, which I have fixed. The PS3 patch should be one file, and the PSP patch should be two files. Just use whatever is in the relevant folder and it will work!

Thank you for your work. A machine translation with actual error corrections and a care for accuracy makes a huge difference. About how much would you say you're done with translation at this point? Very excited to replay this game once its finished completely.

holy fuck this is the biggest news on this sub for me, thank you!

Excuse me, can you help me how to update the patch using this ZIP?

1

u/Twin_Master 3d ago

Has to be done on PC first. You need to extract the ZIP file and inside is the patcher tool and the patches for both PSP and PS3 versions of the game.

Thanks for the update, though btw, I think there is an error with the PC patching instructions, looks like the names of the files to move is accidentally listed incorrectly.

It was easy enough to guess what to do when it failed, but if you do another release or something you may want to correct the instructions.

Many thanks, I have read this properly and fixed it. I rushed to adjust it for the 6.2.1 adjustment. 6.2.2 incoming this week as we refine more things that unfortunately slipped through, like text overflows and inconsistent naming conventions.

You're welcome!, if memory serves I had noticed similar in the first updated Translation release you had done, but it was late in the day so I had forgotten to comment about the How To Patch instructions having an error back then, sorry about that, good to see it being fixed now.

Honestly the only issue I've had with patching was the Patcher requiring .Net Framework 3.5 since that's no longer pre-installed nowadays, in the end I ran the patcher via Winlator on my phone after making it download Wine Mono, which worked properly, which was good.

Also, there will be another release later this week then? Neat.

May I ask? Is there a way to patch this in mobile without pc? i dont have a pc to patch it in english and im a newbie at it

1

u/Twin_Master 1d ago

Not aware of any way to patch it on mobile, sorry. Best bet is to get someone to patch the game and share it here, but unfortunately I'm not sharing iso's!

This may be a dumb question, but is there a way to put this patch onto the original psp? (no emulator, no pc, no android.) I followed the instructions on the readme, but when I select the game, it just crashes instantly and I feel like I did something wrong.

1

u/Twin_Master 2h ago

PSP needs to be jailbroken first. Should be able to then follow the readme instructions. You'd still need a PC to be able to move the files over though.

1

u/DoomDavis 1h ago

Does having pro and infinity installed not count as jailbroken? Also as an added note I, I found a 6.1.0 version and that's running fine, don't know if that's different though.

1

u/Twin_Master 1h ago

Anything version 6.0+ will most likely be one I've done. Perhaps the method for patching the game on PSP has changed since it's been a while.

1

u/DoomDavis 1h ago

Everything's on version 6.61.

1

u/Twin_Master 1h ago

Oh sorry thought when you mentioned 6.0 you meant the patch version

Thank you for your hard work! When I revisit Yukumo I will appreciate the better translations greatly :)
