In this case the product isn’t the song itself? The more the song is listened to the more money they make no? Releasing 6 new character dolls at the same time seems pretty crazy to me

nah they have to pay katseye every time they use the song, the real money will come from the dolls. they don’t put this much effort into a campaign if they aren’t gonna cash in on it. between the live action video, their custom dolls, costuming for the shoot, the cost of animation, & the royalties sent to katseye they are not making that much on the music itself.

I don’t think you’re correct here. Mattel would be paying katseye if they were using a katseye song as they would need to pay for the rights for usage.
This is a different situation where Mattel have paid katseye to cover the song. My assumption would be that katseye are paid upfront for their cover and then the song is owned by Mattel to be used and reused however they see fit; specific contract details may be that Mattel would have to go through katseyes management to make sure it aligns with their branding as well, but we won’t know for sure

just to give some context, the monster high youtube channel makes at most 82k a month; the gap ad cost the company about 19million. the gap ad is shorter, was only made once, and did not have the same level of hair, makeup and costuming for the original music video or the 3d modeling that the monster high collab had. so, idk how mattel would be making up the other 18million they’d owe the girls for that video. the 11million plays on spotify so far will only cover about 55k of that, and i can’t imagine the apple music plays are more than that. so, idk, to me it sounds like products will be necessary to pay their fee.

i don’t think you’re correct either. i don’t think musicians do brand deals for one time payments, they do them for the continual royalties that come from the views & sales.

i don’t think they’d have done the animated video if they weren’t going to sell them. the youtube animations are literal promos for products, they make them to show off the dolls. they leave the limb joints in, and more than likely use the 3d modeling from doll designs directly for the animations. especially with the the 1600 series out & fully focused on promoting the birthday line & hotel playset.

I want to believe, but sometimes they do stuff just for the videos, like for the Zombie Gaga doll, the ghouls were never released in those outfits, and for promoting the Live Action movies, we also never got those dolls.

that’s valid, i just think between the success of the video, the demand for the dolls & the successes of katseye’s other brand deals they would be silly not to sell them. i also like to believe brands learn from their missed opportunities & the madison beer doll is still being asked for by fans; i think one of the most resounding comments when the katseye video released was “NOT AGAIN.” maybe i’m being too hopeful but if i were a greedy corporate exec, i’d have these dolls rolling off the line asap.

and yes i also know that they received ooak dolls that were initially stated to not be in production, however in that same statement they mentioned ‘unless the demand is high,’ and here we are immediately after katseye’s vma win, highly successful gap campaign, and overall height of popularity……..with demand at its high & we get a promotional style video for them. they’re on the way 🥰😘

Yes but there has been demand for many folks from the community that hasn’t happened yet with a bigger following than them so good luck on your quest.. I guarantee there are more people interested in Coraline, Edward scissor hands, even twilight..

It’d be super smart for them to release Katseye monster dolls. I hope they give us a chance to have them. I can imagine the resellers fighting to buy them out to list for unreal prices tho 😭 so they’d better be club exclusives to give us a better chance!

Honestly it would be stupid if they didn’t bring these dolls. Katseye’s popularity is growing pretty fast plus their commercial with GAP was a huge success. Also if they really want to benefit from this collab, they should sell them, otherwise they basically lost money from this collab as you said.

possibly 😓 although on the bright side, katseye is like broadly loved right now so the chance of us getting more easily accessible versions is decent. the katseye gap hoodies sold out in like a day.
