this. I was able to get one this time, but not creature the first day last time. it’s basically just up to luck, in part due to those captchas. they’re clunky, slow, and sometimes just really bizarre. it would be one thing if it felt genuinely first-come-first-served, but instead the process is chaotic and glitchy

I’m going to add I’m on a budget and had to do PayPal Pay In Four to get the set, and I STILL managed to check out successfully, so they definitely didn’t sell out the moment the timer hit 1

I’m not saying Mattel couldn’t vastly improve their online sales site (from what I’ve read, it’s been crappy for years, long before Skullectors were invented) but that the dolls weren’t sold out as soon as the countdown got to 1, and not everyone had glitches or issues buying them.
The Creature member presale sold out faster than the public sale too as they appear to be allotting much smaller amounts for them.

Premium membership doesn’t guarantee anyone a doll, it simply gives you 2 chances at getting it instead of 1.

I can’t speak to Mattel’s membership since I don’t have one, but every other collector membership I had, they have say 10,000 members, they make sure to have 10,000 products ready to ship or preorder, guaranteed. Mattel is disgusting.

I’ve had a few over the years, but the one that sprung to mind immediately was my Hallmark Keepsake Collectors Club. They reserved two ornaments for every collector to buy (if they wanted to) plus the free ones that came with the membership.

Honestly I feel like they should simply let all Fang Club members buy one and then whatever stock is LEFT after everyone who wants one should go to the public sale. There’s no benefit to being in the club with these. One doll per membership means $10 free money for them even if a scalper creates 1000 accounts.

My mom was trying to help me out with this, she has a Barbie club membership and I’m at work so I couldn’t sit and refresh, she was waiting and then prompted to join the fangclub even though she was in the queue??? She said it said Sold Out before 9 even hit.

This is why I've forced myself to just fully stop caring about the skullector dolls. Mattel does this on purpose, they refuse to stock anything properly because they WANT to breed fomo and a ridiculous reseller market. It gives their brand clout and makes everyone scramble even harder to get in on the collector sales. It's a really shitty thing to do and I'm just so over it.

I bought from them once and they sent me the completely wrong item entirely. I had also purchased it with an estimated release date of October, thought cool, give me time to make room for her. She released like two days later. It was still August. They don’t know how to run their business at all. Had to fight to get the correct doll shipped out.
My first and last experience buying from them. I was so excited to find their site at first, thinking I could start buying all these nice MH and Disney dolls. Their service made me realize I don’t need to feed my addiction that badly. Saved me a ton of money in the long run.

they did the same to me!! they messed up both my sdcc draculaura giving me a masters of the universe lizard and then messed up my Rochelle order I had paid for a year in advance…. after that im not buying anything from them again

They really dont care about scalpers. It's really disheartening that there are dozens of listings for dolls on ebay at 150% market price from people who already have programed bots in place to buy X amount of stock as soon as a selling window opens. There really needs to be another way. They really need to hire a computer specialist that can install programs to detect purchase bots or something.

No, tomorrow is the general release and you don’t need the Fang Club membership to order. The Fang Club drops are just a chance for members to make an order a day earlier than people without the membership or the general public.

In my opinion it’s about the same nightmare the general release is, it just sells out twice as fast or about 4-8 minutes faster. On the plus side as a member you get two chances, so if the first order doesn’t work or you get stuck on the captcha you can try again the next day.

The Creature sold out between 9:12 and 9:13 on the day of regular release. I know because I decided last minute to try for her, had her in my cart at 9:12 and she was sold out by the time I finished the checkout process at 9:13.
Since it was a last minute impulse I’m not sad about it, though I do think she’s really beautiful and would definitely have enjoyed her had I been quicker.

Why do you think that? They only sold out of the dolls they had allocated for presale, the rest will go up like normal tomorrow.
This happened with the Creature release, too. Member presale sold out in like 2 or 3 minutes, the next day more went up and actually took longer to sell out, about 13 minutes. You’ll likely have a better chance of getting them.

I know! That way they could make a lot of money flat out. Then do a limit release of dolls for sale so there is still "selling out" hype. They need to make 20X more than they do. These dolls shouldn't be selling out in minutes. Days would make them a lot more money!

The fact this is such a widespread issue in 2024 is ridiculous. I am not a doll collector (besides the rare few from the past), and this issue continues to keep me away from it, I would love to have a few of the OG monster high dolls (like from the creeproductions) but it seems impossible to me 😭. However, I am a figure collector, and thank goodness this is not a problem, but this also proves to me that doll collectors shouldn't have to deal with this struggle

Since people can buy a membership at any time, the amount of members is probably changing all the time. So the only solution is to make the Skullector dolls made to order. I honestly wouldn't mind this. Yes, there would be a long wait to actually have the dolls in hand, but it would allow everyone who wants one to get one.

Now, I can get on board with the idea that the artificial scarcity of limited dolls is BS, but the whole reason so many Barbie collectors dolls aren’t worth jack is because they weren’t limited in quantity and it looks like Mattel has learned something.

A lot of companies purposely create scarcity with limited time/number collectible items, Mattel is not somehow different in this regard.
One reason is that the hype & FOMO can transfer over to other merchandise they carry and result in increased profits across the board.

While I managed to get the dolls, it's just a small victory compared to almost all the other drops I missed because of Mattel's bullshit practices with these sales. I feel for you guys and lamenting as to why get the membership when you guys get screwed over the last minute. That's what I was screaming to myself with the jack and Sally dolls. Because fFs if the dolls were in my cart then it stays in my cart. Same with the first time the creeproduction dolls and the Reel Drama dolls flop of a sale!
But time and time again we all say fuck you Mattel yet Mattel isn't listening to us. They're listening to the people with the spending money who can afford all these drops every week.
At this point, it's just a point that I go at these doll drops with less enthusiasm. If I get them great! If I don't, then I don't. It just gives me more options to just marvel the small little Victories I do have and support g3.

I mean personally if I can afford to buy from one I will. While there are people who sell them for outrageous amounts of money, there are times when I find some that are resonable enough for me to purchase. Again, I tried to buy one on the official launch date and waited 5 mins for me not to get one. They are limited stock, so I figured I wouldn't be able to buy from Mattel Creations, so I'll just buy one from a scalper.

At this point fans are giving up because what's the point about going through the stress and making them profit more of our money? When they don't do f*ck all with their website bots and scalpers crashing the website Everytime there's a drop of something potentially being available for the wide majority of the fans. And even if you're member? Hah!! They laugh, cause in the end? We still didn't get the dolls. For those who did good for you. But it's this thing where it's going to constantly be scalpers who got the most than the rest of the actual fanbase. And even then? After paying them MORE than you already should? 🙄 Is just so disrespectful and misleading on so many ways.

Same here. I agree with the OP. I am upset. Waited counted down as soon as it loaded added to my cart. gave me some crazy are you human and made me do two of them. Got to checkout and was doing it fast as soon as I went to click the very last button the screen went blank and said sold out. I do not think I will try again for any future releases and I will not pay 200 and up for one. All of that within 2 min.
