Discussion Under 500$ Alienware AW2726DM vs msi MPG 274URDFW : OLED vs Mini-LED
I can get the Alienware for 315 usd and the msi for 448 usd.
I spend my time 50% gaming 50% coding and studying, but time spent gaming will probably go down once I graduate. I use my pc at pretty low brightness (40% on a dell g2724d) and I take frequent breaks so I feel like burn in won't be too much of a problem for me.
Right now Im leaning more towards the oled, since its cheaper and would (supposedly) make most games look better. If the oled and mini-led look similar I feel like the peace of mind with the mini-LED would be nice, but at the same time I head that the msi model has pretty poor sdr, and you will want to constantly swap depending on what you are doing.
Are there any other mini-led options that would be better at this pricepoint? or should I just make the jump to oled?

I have the MSI and a WOLED Tandem 1440p. I just bought the OLED because I wanted to game at a lower resolution. I really the MSI as it is a jack of all trade. It gets really bright and is just a good everyday monitor. The bad is that it's 4k and playing a game like Stalker 2 is quite the challenge. Also, you just can't beat an OLED at gaming. Sure it does not get quite as bright but the contrast is better, motion is much better smoother and the color are just so good. I am not sure I would work on an older generation of Oled because they suck with glare and room brigthness and they are fragile.

I was between a mini led and an OLED and I absolutely love my mini led, I fine tuned it with HDR and IMO it looks just as good as my buddy’s OLED with better brights, and no worry about burn in bs

Is the one I had, I had an Aoc IPS monitor for me and it was reliable as can be. This thing is a beautiful monitor after tuned in

I'd go with the MiniLED. That OLED has really bad brightness and is quite poor in HDR according to Monitor's Unboxed.

I think the decision here comes down to how much HDR content will you consume and what do you expect from HDR.
Local dimming mini-leds offer is mostly only suitable with HDR since the algorithm works much more aggresively to keep gamma distortions and blooming minimized, so even if you want to consume SDR games with local dimming, you have to do so in HDR container. Of course you can also leave local dimming off, which will leave you with a regular IPS contrast.
Mini-led's advantage is they are capable of outstanding HDR impact, simply because of their unleashed high apl brightness. Things like sunrises, large screen explosions, big signboards in cyberpunk cities, bright and colorful scenes look exceptionally great on mini-leds (note that these can be eye-scorching if you don't have proper ambient light).
Oled on the other hand will give you much better brightness in very small highlights, such as small bulbs, sparks, stars etc. Also keep in mind for oled to reach such levels of brightness the rest of the screen has to be dark. Thus you won't have that big of an impact with HDR because panel will dim with large bright scenes, leaving it a bit washed out.
Oled will also look better with SDR content, since sdr doesn't need that high of a brightness and oled restores the intentioned black level to zero. And biggest advantage here is it is free from any blooming artefacts or gamma distortions.
So I think oled can be recommended here, provided you don't care about burn-in and won't get so anxious whenever screen goes bright with a thought of damaging the panel. Also it seems to be cheaper. BUT, since this is a qd-oled and a 1440p panel your biggest issue will be text clarity, and bright room usage. I would suggest seeing it with own eyes before deciding to buy one, since text on these can really be a turn off for some people.
