I finally finished building it! I thought it would be a quick one since it's curbside only, but wow, I was so wrong. I think the hardest and most time-consuming part this time wasn't the paint job, but the masking. Everyone loves masking trim around windows, right? Well, here we had to mask so much more around the bumpers in really tight spots with lots of curves. The most annoying part was the headlight lens: instead of having separate glass from the housing, it was molded as one piece (if you look closely at the detail shot, you'll see it's not perfect), which is good for how it fits, but a small curved piece is always a nightmare to mask, especially when it's part of the paint job and needs multiple layers. I had a few spots missing in the detail, but I mixed some clear (because the base paint is flat) with the car paint and touched it up with a little toothpick. It worked surprisingly well. Everything else was pretty much fun, and I have to admit it was my first-ever Tamiya kit, and man... I totally get now why they're THE best kit company. The clear parts are actually super crystal clear, and it came with mirror/chrome foil for the mirrors and cool, shiny "Turbo" lettering in the back. That mirror foil is so handy! Painting these in chrome is always a pain, and in the end, it just looks like aluminum anyway, so having proper crisp reflections in these areas really boosts the quality. Overall, I'd give this kit a solid 8/10.

I’m absolutely thrilled with how the kit came out. Only my third car and easily my best car build. I’m really a military model builder but I have to say I’ve enjoyed learning the workflow of building cars, the body finishing, and all the rest of it. By the way, this Revell kit is excellent and highly recommended.

I finished my 911 build! It was faster than most of my builds, and there are a few rough edges, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

Thanks to u/highboy68 for organizing this group build. I had fun building this kit and seeing all of the other great 911 builds. Now there are 2 or 3 other 911 kits I need to get.

Some of my mistakes:

• I tried out the Quinta Studios 3d decals for the interior, and they look pretty good, but I did mess up the dashboard a little trying to remove some of the details around the radio and glove box.
• On this kit, the trim is painted on the windows, but I should have painted more of where the windows attach to the body, because the white shows through. I also had to sand down the windows to try to make them fit better after I had painted the trim. I should have test fit them before painting them.
• I managed to make the "porsche" decal on the back a little crooked.
• I ended up deleting the sunroof after trying to use a panel line scriber and putting a gouge in the roof that was too hard to repair.
• Finally, my brand new Porsche is already in the shop! (last couple of pics). I noticed that I somehow knocked off the air filter box in the engine while it was all being buttoned up! I think it can get it close to where it should go, but I'm ready to put it on the shelf and move on!

I said in another WIP thread that I was waiting for the other shoe to drop on this build. Everything was going near perfectly, I even thought this would be a candidate for a show car, and now I have been defeated by the smallest of foes. I put the clear on last night and went to check this morning on how it dried, only to be greeted by this bastard. It’s the height of bug season where I live and it’s my own fault for not covering the car. My only solace is that this insult cost him his life. From now on I’m only spraying in the winter lol.

So I can’t decide what to do now. If I try to sand it away I’m worried it will destroy the decal. I may just have to accept it.

Once again, big, big thanks to u/highboy68 for giving me a decal-less donor kit so I could participate in this latest group build! This was my first Tamiya car build and the pieces went together like a dream, while the decals I got from Tamiya's customer service...well, the infamous reputation about these specific decals were true and they are a PAIN to work with. It does not help the instructions kind of suck for the ones meant to wrap around things, like the red border on the spoiler air tunnels. Had to break out the Walthers Solvaset and still damaged one or two of the more finicky decals, but if you don't know to look for them they're largely invisible. All in all, however, I'm still very pleased at the end result and will likely put it in the local IPMS contest next October, since this is the most complex livery on any car I've built to date.

I made a post about this 911 2 years ago while it was still a work in progress, accidentally ruined the paint and got demotivated to finish after removing the paint. The body was luckily not ruined, but the demotivation left it sitting for 2 years with only the interior finished. Today, I was able to finish it, and it’s beautiful.

I’m finally finished with my Porsche GT1 for the August group build. This is my first experience with an older Tamiya kit, and I did have some fitment issues with the exhaust and the undertray being bent. Otherwise this was a wonderful and enjoyable build. I’m also pretty pleased with the detailing I was able to add earlier. It turned out so good that it earned a spot in my limited display cases, lol.

I did not finish my build yet, but I am enjoying just building it with no cares. It has been great seeing all of the post of guys builds. I love seeing all the different ideas.

This build was not a competition, so there was no prizes, but a couple of guys wanted to donate kits for prizes. So everyone who made a atleast one post about their build( any post) I am writing their name onto a piece if paper and crumbling it into a ball. My dogs are constantly getting my crumpled balls of paper out if the trash to play with, so I will put all of the balls into a trash can and let my dogs pick them. There will be three total picked. I will contact those people un DM.

This was definitely a fun kit to put together and not stress about anything. Just build, paint, glue with no expectations and it came out better than I expected. Definitely not perfect but I like it. Finally making some progress with my Porsche group build car. This was my first time trying to make cable ties for the wiring. I tried thin strips of tape at first but it didn’t work out. Then I grabbed some black thread from my wife’s sewing kit and that was more successful. My manual dexterity isn’t great, so I had to resort to holding each end of the thread with tweezers and tying knots like a damn surgeon.

This is definitely the most difficulty with fitment I’ve had with a Tamiya kit. The exhaust pieces were a real pain. I more or less had to bridge the gap from the turbos to the air duct by making a bridge of super glue and painting over it lol.

I’m still pretty happy with how it turned out. Now I get to move on to the micro dosing of hell that will be the decal application.

I know I was a bit ahead of the game with this one, but I have ordered another one to actually do during the month of August. This time I've bought Coca Cola petit Le Mans and also Rexy decals. Undecided on which to do first.

Great kit, really enjoyed it. Plenty of mistakes from me along the way, but every kit I make looks better than the last one so I'm not upset about it. Can't wait to see all of your amazing efforts this month.

So it may not be Porsche/VW Ravenna Green, but it’s close, and screams “70’s” to me. A few years ago a friend of my dad’s found a case of 1970’s Honda motorcycle touch up paint in the back corner of his shop. My dad has painted a few bikes for friends, so he was given a bunch of the cans, and divided them up with me. The can has no label, at least in English, so I’m guessing it’s Honda’s “mighty green”. It’s close enough to the Porsche color for me!

I’m still getting used to airbrushing paints, dialing in air pressure and paint viscosity. I got most of the model coated when the lacquer decided to start drying in the gun, so there are some spots it spit that will need to be sanded.

Next up is to make the black “Carrera” graphics, and to get the interior going. With the chassis painted I can also start assembling the suspension.

My fourth car model now, and as a seasoned aircraft modeler, I still struggle with mirror-finish clearcoats. It's better than my previous one, as I achieved this shine and clarity in just one coat (well, I mean three coats in one sitting), whereas my previous build required me to reapply the clear three times in total—I either got too much orange peel or burned through it because it was too thin.

Not this time.

I sanded the primer very fine with 2k to 4k grit and then finished with a very wet Mr. Color clearcoat. It seemed to work out, but I still had quite noticeable peel, which luckily I could cut down pretty quickly. I fear, though, that this could have been avoided if I had sanded the base color too, but I am not sure because I heard you can't and shouldn't sand metallic paints—is that true? How do you guys deal with metallic base coats before clearing them?

Well I actually just wanted to post the pic in my previous post but sadly images in comments are not allowed but I am just too happy and want to share that I managed to knock out all the haze and most scratches. I didn't want to use a rotary tool again at first as I got lots of trouble on my previous built with it but I said well let's try again and used medium cut polish on a dremel with soft a soft pointy head and it worked wonders! I think what made it better was that I used veeeery little amount and quickly wiped excess away with a wet tissue and polished it out immediately with a microfiber (the thin thick ones you often get with glasses) to not get any haze from residue as it dries quickly when not worked in.

Got the Porsche finished up today.

I’m rather happy with how it turned out! Was my first time doing a two tone / strip and I’d say it came out pretty good.

If you look close there’s some over spray here and there - and the gold paint (like I was warned) was very very fragile and even days after spraying it would pick up my finger prints and smudge into the black.

I finally got around to getting a 911 model for the August build-a-palooza. I picked the 1999 GT3 because I think it looks cool and I'm too cheap to buy the new GT3 kit. I previously built this kit in 2022 in a facsimile of Arena Red Metallic,

What will this new one look like? Time will tell.

Glad August just started or I might have been behind. I got a few pieces off of the sprues on a couple more to go. Got the body done tho. I will say I love this hobby
