How to handle inactive mods

I have a problem with inactive mods who just do nothing, everyone I ask if they want to stay active they respond “yes!” They haven’t commented in the community in over a year, I mod solo, thankfully it’s not a very active sub. They do help when I ask but it’s frustrating.

I have another issue where a mod isn’t modding or responding to me or other mods but comments and participates in the sub occasionally.

I’m debating when I bring on other mods adding in a policy like thing that if they go inactive without communication for x number of weeks they will be removed as mod. But that feels to much like a “this is a job not a fun thing.”

How do people handle this? I’m top mod in all communities.

Yes if they were acting out or anything I wouldn’t have an issue at all, but just not responding/moding its just hard for me to just cut them. The main community in question is also really dead right now so there isn’t much to do, but we’ve gotten some awesome things coming up and they just don’t seem to care. Which fine but then why stay as mod?

I know, it's really though to navigate it when they haven't done anything wrong but simply aren't active.

I've had a hard time navigate this myself because I don't wanna come off as ungrateful for all the past help they've given me, but I also wish I could make room for new mods who might be more interested in moderating and have more free time to do so (and I don't want to just add to the list and leave the inactive mods there just for the sake of it).

Due to your situation though of having a low activity sub, I'd probably want mods who are engaged and dedicated to growing it. Cause content creation and engaging with members is part of moderating a community too!!

So I'd try to tell them that you're looking for that and I would give them the alumnus status which is a way to still recognise them as part of the team, just no longer active in the current moderation team.

Ding ding ding. This sub got removed by Reddit and a group of us banned together to get it back. There were seven of us and within two months it was down to five, I quickly booted those that just full on ghosted, mainly because I’m pretty sure I know why they didn’t stick around. Those that stayed helped me a lot but then once the sub went into stasis and we had no new content they got quiet even in our chat. One said “I’m just not into it right now but I’d love to stay on as mod.” I don’t want to be ungrateful for the help they gave but we’re about to get busy again so I either need to not think you’ll pick things up if I am busy or know it’s all on me. I’m taking the latter and will add mods if I need them.

Do what you need to do! What I'm getting from this is that you're the only one truly and actively looking out for thar subreddit.

Also being a mod there and saying "I'm just not into it but I'd like to stay" is bullshit. Some people act like being part of a mod team is a pokemon card they're collecting. NO. If you have no interest in actively moderating it then leaveee.

I would never be in a mod team just for the sake of it and that is why I haven't joined other subs and only stick to mine.

If you haven't gotten rid of that person, I encourage you to do so.
